I love the Metaspeed Edge+. The feeling when running is of a lighter and more reactive Nimbus 25, they just encourage you to run forward, with a progressive and fast toeoff. They are definitely my peace of cake. They are more stable than Nike Vaporfly and just a little less responsive.

Very helpful review, thank you. I am going for the Edge, for the reasons you mention. I am not a very fast runner, so it's tough to handle a bouncy shoe for long distances.

As a Masters Runner, I think you’ve nailed it. I’ve yet to test the Sky+, but I enjoy the Edge+. I like that it is firmer than other supershoes. The ease of running in it is amazing. So easy to pick up the pace. It really shines when you’re at that last mile and you’re fatigued and push through the pain. I PRed on my last 10k on the Edge+. It kept my cadence up even though I was fatigued on the last mile with ease. I want to test the Sky+ on because I am currently on a marathon training block. I like that it has more cushioning on the forefoot to midfoot.

Looking forward to the podcast! Also, I'm not sure you guys ever touched on this topic yet but I would like to see an episode/podcast about how our body responds when we run on hard or soft surfaces and what should we look for. What should be the preferred midsole stiffness and softness and maybe comparing shoes for that topic? Thanks!

Very great comparison. I have the impression for your words that Edge+ is similar to Vapofly or Sky v1. Fantastic work😉

I've found them surprisingly firm and not adequately rockered for how incredibly stiff they are. Not sure if they break in, but the FF Turbo feels firmer in hand than v1s and those shoes didn't really seem to break in much for me. I do prefer the geometry and roll of the Edge+ now that it has the same sort of stack, but it still feels incredibly stiff and a bit slappy still. I also don't feel the foam compressing while running.
@DoctorsofRunning2 жыл бұрын
Super late response here. Cameron, definitely agree with you initially. The Turbo does need to break in, but it certainly isn’t soft. On the firmer end for these shoes, but with time the foam breaks in. Definitely not as bouncy as the Sky v1

Interesting review--I think you may be on to something with your knee/posterior chain theory. Even though I'm a 40+ runner, I found the original Sky much better than the Edge. In fact, the Edge was one of the only shoes that gave me any kind of knee pain, though it was minor. I'm thinking that may because I was and still and a sprinter, have a forefoot (never heel) strike, and train posterior chain with kettlebells and other strengthening, mobility, and activation drills learned from an Exos mentorship.

The Sky v1 works very well for me. With that in mind, given the geometries of both, which one is closest to v1? I ask because the Edge seems to now be closest to v1 in terms of geometry but the changes in Sky+ seem to enhance the feel of v1 (bounce and reliance on calf strength), from your take.
@isidrotormogarcia48792 жыл бұрын
+1.
@DoctorsofRunning2 жыл бұрын
Kent, your impressions are spot on. I would agree that the Edge plus feels like the similar bouncy ride with a higher heel drop and better roll than the sky v1. The Sky + is really bouncy and low drop, more similar to an Alphafly with the lower drop and additional forefoot cushioning. -Matt

@@DoctorsofRunning Were the previous versions of both shoes sold specifically for cadence or stride runners? The shoes being cadence/stride specific - Is this a new shoe "science" or just a marketing tool as I've not heard of shoes being sold/promoted this way before ?

Hey Matt, thanks for this! Do you think it depends on the race distance. I land mid foot and slightly nearer to the heel in my other foot later in marathons, on shorter races I’d naturally be up on my toes more but at say marathon and half marathon pace, I’d be in that middle ground and landing further back, I have a long stride and lower cadence, so in theory, I’m aimed at the Sky plus, but when I’m landing closer to the heel in later stages of the race, would the edge plus kind of cover both areas?

Very interesting. Any thoughts for an Ironman triathlete? Just did a half Ironman in the MS Sky last weekend. Was very happy with it, but also thinking about how our run form gets a little wonky by the end of the marathon. Thinking the extra bit of stability in the Sky+ might be the right way to go. Always saying how my shoe choice for a straight marathon would be different than my shoe choice for an Ironman marathon…

For a year Adidas Adios Pro2 is my favorite Marathon running shoe. What do you think 🤔 Which one Edge+ or Sky+ is close to running sensation of Pro2?
@hamoudalnasser9 ай бұрын
What happens if you increase cadence and stride length when you speed up? My average cadence is around 175-180. Tempo pace more like 190, fastest efforts 195-200. Side length on average around 0.96m, uptempo 1.20m, fastest paces 1.35m. Doesn't;t the whole stride/cadence thing also depend on mid-forefoot striking vs. Mid-heel striking? I tend to be a midfoot towards forefoot striking as I pick up pace, but I have had some achilles issues, so who knows? Isn't it ideal to pick up both cadence and stride length as you pick up the pace?

Awesome review. I literally use the new balance rebel V2 for everything! I wanna try one of these models out but having a hard time trying to figure it out which one to order. How would you compare the new edge2 to the old sky1 because they look exactly the same?? I like you am more of a cadence runner but wouldn’t mind trying either model! Of course there’s no way to try any of these models on in person so I wanna order the correct pair! I do feel like the v1 sky and the new edge 2 would probably be the best for me. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much!!

Unfortunately the magic speed 2 is the only shoe that I completely regret to bought it. It is so stiff, has a very firm midsole, not springy and no energy return. I can't find any reasonable use case for the shoe... The only good thing about the shoe is the look is similar to metaspeed series.

just wondering about the Edge+, if the key benefit is the superior rolling, doesn't that partially negate the benefits of a carbon plate to begin with?

Having just read your excellent online review of the EvoRide 3 and in particular the Toe Spring 101 I was wondering how the Sky and Edge + compare? Do they both have similar aggressive toe springs? Would either work for someone with toe mobility issues that needs a forefoot rocker but not the aggressive toe spring? I was hoping the Edge + might be an option…Thanks for all the great content coming out lately!

I just returned my unused 2nd pair of the Asics Metaspeed sky (v1) and am waiting to place an order for the Edge+. As much as I've enjoyed the Sky, I think the lower drop has affected my Achilles and calf as I've tried to push my training workouts and race paces. I haven't experienced the same calf and Achilles irritation in a recent pair of Vaporfly next% 2, tho the Nike feel less stable. I think my mechanics call for more smooth rolling rather than hard, clawing push-offs (then calf cramps ensue)

@@chuajiaming5095 Sorry i missed my chance and the edge + ran out of stock in my size as it was a limited run over here (i guess because of the price ) so i ended up with the Endorphine pro 3 . They are both good shoes (more versatile for the endo 3 but faster in the sky 1) , also i like the upper in the sky better as i can feel it more and is balanced than the light endo 3 (endo 3 upper is soo light that it makes the midsole feel clunky like your wearing all midsole , while the sky being more substantial makes it feel balanced that its not all midsole (if that makes sense) . Sorry i could not help with the Edge + . But another reason i wanted it is the forefoot roll geometry as i tend not to use the full rocker of the sky because it curls more towards the toe area while the edge starts early so i think i can make more use at toe off (but of course this is all speculation) .

I absolutely love all your content (by far favorite running channel), I love the scientific and biomechanical approach!! I have a question for you: I'm looking for a fast 10k shoe. The sky and the vaporfly are too unstable for me with pronation. I'm leaning towards the metaspeed edge+ or the endorphin pro 3, but they are so so similar in many ways; which shoe out of the two would you pick? I'm really interested in your opinion!

I don't buy Asics marketing regarding "Cadence vs stride" runners. Every one increases their stride when running faster. Does incresing your stride by 5 more inches than some one the same height/leg length but has more strides but a 5" shorter "stride length"?? :) Nitpicking there. I think what it DOES come down to is if you're a "heel striker" (which I think a runner should be if with good proper form) vs "Firefoot striker/shuffler"... Might like the try the Edge+ when they come out with the "Edge 2" and discount the PLUS....Will be interesting to see how Asics betters the Edge+
