To me this chapter is about the New Testament. An invitation to the church to come and search the New Testament where the new and everlasting covenant was already given, and where we can learn of prophecies of the end times and what we are to do and expect for the coming Millenium. A long passage from the New Testament is given about this already to emphasize this invitation. And thus the need for the New Testament to be correctly translated because of omissions and errors.

The China story is found in a footnote in the History of the Church volume 1. page 158. I'm not sure who wrote this footnote (B.H. Roberts?), but that's where you'll find it and the sources he uses.

The China Earthquake fulfilled the prophecy of the sixth seal of a great earthquake to happen. (in my opinion) It is the largest recorded earthquake so far. You can google it.
