A good tutorial never dies. You've helped me understand a lot! I deal with designers at work and they are always looking at me like I have three heads when I don't understand their design issues I bring to them from my clients. Now..I might be able to teach them a thing or two. Maybe even start designing on my own. :)

The process you have explained created six pages of equal width, but that may not fold very well. The left-most page should be slightly narrower so it can fit inside. Perhaps you will explain this omission later. I haven't looked ahead yet. For a special folded product, I have typically downloaded an InDesign template provided by the printer. This works best because the template will be set up with adjustments to accommodate the thickness of the paper when the product is folded.

May have found the issue-I was clicking book, because that is what I am designing. When I clicked document it came up as your tutorial shows. My question now is, can I design a book in this "document", or should I be using "book"? Thanks for your guidance! Really enjoying your tutorials !

Visionary Lifestyle Hi there, I previously thought this myself and found an explanation in another online tutorial. From what I remember - Books are for collecting several InDesign files together, so for example if many designers were working in a studio together, on different spreads in different InDesign files, then they wanted to put them together at the end. Documents are for single projects which could be anything from a brochure, presentation or even an actual book that you were going to work on in that one single InDesign file. That's just from my memory and I have no experience of creating 'Books' where multiple designers work on one huge collective file, so confirmation from anyone else would be appreciated, but in the meantime it might help explain the difference to you (confusing I know...).

Did you have trouble getting that printed and folded? We usually make the inner panel smaller than the outer ones so it can be folded neatly inside. Obviously you can't fit a a panel inside something which is the same size as itself. For this reason the document should be made the size of the unfolded job and then the panels divided up using guides so that the inner panel is smaller than the outer ones. If you don't believe me, try and fold an A4 piece of paper into equal-sized sections, you'll find you have to make the inner one smaller than the outer sections.

hi, I'm making a magazine where there is also a roll fold. I'm wondering how to design it in InDesign. So the right pages will be printed on the right sides. So the spine is in between page 2-3 and 5-6. If page 4 is the flap then page 5 is the back of the flap? and pages 5-6 are the back of 2-3 and will these be the next 2 pages in the magazine?

@AwesomeOju
@AwesomeOju 9 жыл бұрын
Sophia A Don't get confused, it wasn't the snapping of fingers that numbered the page but a trick; The Video recording was paused, then simply the numbers were typed in as you would normally do and recorded again, later the both scenes were joint in an editing software to show that effect. Observe the cursor position before and after the snapping of the fingers.

Im confused as to how your able to keep the A5 when you move all the pages to 3 side by side by side. Wouldn't that make your document longer than its original page? If your in portrait orientation for example, and you have 3 pages. You would have 3 A5's side by side making it one individual print on separate a5's., not all three jammed landscape inside of that one A5 still. How does this process work because im left in confusion.
@GarethDavidStudio
@GarethDavidStudio 9 жыл бұрын
For this project, we have an A5 Roll fold leaflet. Each page is essentially an A5, but folded out to reveal x3 A5 wide. In InDesign. When you create a page, it is treated as an individual page. This is generally done in preparation for exporting to PDF, to maintain marks and bleeds, and fold points. When you position them together like I have done in this video, it becomes a spread. You don’t have to do it this way, but its a very organised. The key thing to remember, is when you export, you export 'AS A SPREAD’. So when it exports, it will maintain the entire spread of x3 A5 pages on the front, and on the back. In this tutorial, I have arranged the pages how they will be printed. across the front and back. The reason for this is for ease of design. I can see exactly how the document will be printed and layed out.
@skoolie_life3261
@skoolie_life3261 6 жыл бұрын
So, as long as you export it as a spread, it will NOT print 3 separate A5 pages, but rather print ONE A5 page in 3 sections to be folded?

Hi, love your tutorials! However, with indesign 2018, new document section is completely different and doesn't allow as much modification of a new page as you demonstrate. What I mean is: File>New Document, then it opens up a window of "Document Format" with 12 options, such as iphone5, 6, 6+, iPad, Letter, A4(Portrait), A4(Landscape), Business Card, Web, Web(Common), and under "custom format", you can only change width, height and orientation, nothing else. I wish I could upload a screenshot. So, is there any other ways to change the settings of a new document?
