I guess disco was targeted for death due to the lewd, dissolute, and other promiscuous behavior that it releases inside - and probably outside - the discotheques. The blame might be the endless pulsating four-on-the-floor beat, but the off-beat high hat grooves and snare backbeats made it more important than ever in 1979 to assassinate disco.

Jokes on them because disco lasted into the 80s through clubbing and transformed into house, and now dance.

In my hometown of Charlotte NC, WROQ, an FM rock n roll station did "Disco Destruction" every afternoon at 5 p.m. JB, the DJ would come on and make a speech about how disco was all over the radio. He'd say, "All the AM stations play it, got one FM station around here that plays nothing but disco music. The other FM in town plays a lot of disco music. Someone had got to take a stand." He'd then play a 10 to 15 second excerpt of a disco song, which would be followed by a recorded series of explosions. This day and time, In my I-tunes, I have put together rap destructions that mimics JB"s disco destructions.

I think Major League Baseball didn't do enough in the wake of Disco Demolition Night. First, the season should have been suspended for two weeks and that all MLB owners should have been summoned to a meeting to discuss improved security in MLB ballparks before the season was resumed. Second, the Chicago White Sox should have been forced to forfeit their remaining 1979 games because the team didn't do enough to make the stadium secure for fans, players, and news media. Extreme measures? Yes, but I think they should have been done.
