Twenty thousand kilometers in four months. That's the plan, or rather, the adventure. My method: improvisation, the freedom to discover the path as I go. My goal: explore the Latin American continent, especially South America, a territory that until now I only know through books and videos from other travelers.
My trip begins in Mexico City and has a final destination: Patagonia. But the path will not be straight. Before reaching the south, I will cross countries and cultures until I reach Panama. From there, the jump to South America, where incredible landscapes and exciting challenges await me. The Tatacoa Desert in Colombia, the majestic Machu Picchu in Peru, the dangerous and fascinating Death Road in Bolivia... each place has its own story to tell. And finally, Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, the jewel of Tierra del Fuego, where I hope to fulfill my dream.
Eighty kilometers from the border with Guatemala, the beating of my heart resonates strongly in my ears, echoing with the excitement of this adventure that is beginning to unfold before me, my trip through South America. A whirlwind of sensations overwhelms me, anticipating the unknown that awaits me.
My goal is Ushuaia, in Argentine Patagonia, but the road is long and challenging. First, I must cross six Central American countries, each with its own history and culture, until I reach Panama. Then, face the Darién Gap to enter South America. Once in Colombia, the adventure continues south, until reaching the end of the world. A trip that I am sure I will never forget.
Today I cross my first border. Customs and immigration procedures await me. I confess that I am nervous, but also excited. I hope everything goes well, that this is the first of many frontiers. My goal is clear: get to Panama as quickly as possible.
With my heart pounding, I approach the window to complete the immigration procedures. Every step brings me closer to my destination. Once the procedures on the Mexican side are completed, I head to the Suchiate River bridge, where I will cross into Guatemala. Before crossing, I pay the last toll in Mexico, a small gesture that marks the end of a stage. The officer greets me and wishes me a good trip. From now on, everything is new and unknown. The adventure continues in Guatemala, the first country on a long road to Ushuaia, in Argentine Patagonia.
Suchiate River: the border between Mexico and Guatemala. The rafts cross in front of customs. As soon as I step onto solid ground, everything changes. The landscape is dyed blue, a hallmark of Guatemala that welcomes me. Now, my priority is to find the immigration office to carry out the necessary procedures and continue my way to El Salvador. Central America awaits me, and my goal is to advance as quickly as possible.
My first stop is the immigration office. I must register my entry into Guatemala before anything else. Once the immigration procedures are completed, I will be able to deal with the motorcycle documents. I hope this process is quick and easy, so I can continue on my way as soon as possible.
Customs procedures completed. Officially in Guatemala! The first border crossed. I start the motorcycle and head south, towards El Salvador. Today I want to travel as many kilometers as possible. I can't believe it, the dream is starting to come true. I'm on my way to Patagonia!
A void in my mind, a mixture of emotions difficult to describe. The dream has been launched, but uncertainty invades me. Are we taking the right path? What awaits us ahead? The immensity of the unknown overwhelms me for a moment. Until reality hits me: I am in Guatemala, and the road to the south opens before me.
My plan for today was ambitious: cross Guatemala to the border with El Salvador, about three hundred kilometers that seemed feasible. But I underestimated the challenges along the way. Without a cell phone chip and without data, I depend on maps and constant stops to avoid getting lost. Border procedures, traffic, military controls... time slips through our fingers.
Reaching the border with El Salvador becomes impossible before nightfall. I decide to look for a hotel in Escuintla. The streets I checked on the map do not lead me to any accommodation. The city refuses to offer me a place to rest.
Suddenly, an oasis: a McDonald's. A burger and Wi-Fi to find a nearby hotel. Tomorrow, first thing in the morning, I will leave for El Salvador. Adventure has its own times, and today has taught me a valuable lesson.
