Today Tibet is s prospering and growing society, it is at its best it’s ever been, roads, water/electrical/WiFi /sewer grids, investment and development creating economic opportunities to Tibetans. China is not interested in creating a society of failure and dysfunction

Seems today’s Da Lai Lama wants to return Tibet to its past serfdom. For a Buddhist leader he seems more concerned with achieving wealth, fame, celebrity status, and grand ego (everything Buddha was against). It’s Orwellian when the west talks about “free Tibet” Turning Tibet back to the past is nothing free about it except the free abuse of free slavery

"Thanks" to State Dept. and the CIA, which glorify the always dumb smiling Nazi-Lama. Even "liberal hero" AOC praises the "Tibetan-American values". No joke.

Yup, for good reason. It makes the reality far less of a black and white "China bad" "Dalai Lama good" dichotomy. You will also notice this documentary cites plenty of Western experts from places like Canada, Britain, and the United States who have no vested interest in lying to defend China. It also doesn't deny that there are differing opinions among parts of Tibetan society (conservative/progressive, landowners/serfs) and shows that far from coming in and immediately abolishing the traditional way of life the CCP bent over backwards (probably too far imo) to try to get the feudal landowners to agree to reform. The CCP is far from perfect and obviously this doc is going to put them in the best light possible but they are far from the wholly evil totalitarian, psychopaths that American propaganda portrays them as. They clearly have had far more respect for Tibetan culture and getting the people on their side than say the US did with Native Americans. This is why it is worthwhile to hear the other side's version of the story: not because every single bit of it is indisputable but because it gives actual context that makes the complex reality make sense. IF you look into what is going on now in Xinjiang you will see that it is much the same., The CCP is doing its best to respond to a Jihadi separatist terrorist movement that has committed horrific terror attacks and stoked race riots but if you only listen to the Western side of the story they are locking up Uyghurs arbitrarily and "brainwashing" them. Apparently if your family doesn't allow women to go to school and the government actually gives them the opportunity to get an education so they can eventually find work and some sort of economic independence this is "re-education."

Tibet's Vajrayana Buddhism is very different from mainstream larger Buddhist schools: Theravada and Mahayana (which includes the large Pure Land and Zen communities). Even Tibet's Vajrayana Buddhism has several different sects. In any case, the Dalai Llama is *not important* to most Buddhists. He is *irrelevant* and a *distraction.* I can recommend studying Theravada and their Pali Canon Scripture tradition.

@@scottmcloughlin4371 so true..as a Buddhist, lots of us see Dalai Lama as very irrelevant and see him as a wrong practice of buddhism.. As a buddhist, respect monks is important but seeing them as "god" is a wrong concept..the prostration inside buddhist monastery is not to bow to human being but to be humble before buddha, dharma and sangha (buddha disciplines) I have even met a monk who hates when people try to prostrate him..and ask them to get up..bowing is enough to show respect. He is still human being he said..he isn't some saint.. But in Tibet Dalai Lama was treated as king and the prostrate is not before Buddha but to a king..now I kind of feel offended when people think Dalai Lama is treated like saint..

I agree. The only mistake I could find was when they said slavery was outlawed in the U.S in 1865. In reality, slavery is still legal in the U.S as a punishment for crime. Which has led to government policies and economic actions that cause crime to skyrocket in many parts of the U.S.A.

I appreciate the making and showing of this film. In that it paints a too rosy picture, I have skepticism, however to get China's point of view is very important. Until now, I like many people in US, only know by "7 Years in Tibet" its recent history. Now we can know the other side. Thank you.

Source? Like actually any evidence that doesn't come from an organization connected with the US state department? Considering what their government did to minorities within their borders (total and almost complete extermination) what happened in Tibet is liberal and progressive. The idea that religion is "illegal" in China has long been disproven by anyone who has visited there: they just don't allow religious cults to run society anymore. When the US invades Afghanistan and says that it's justification is so that "women can go to school" it is "spreading democracy." Yet when China does the same thing for woman from Uyghur families in Xinjiang it is "re-education." The United States has always been the most adept in brainwashing and propaganda, China for the most part can simply try to keep up with responding to the lies they pump out at an industrial rate.
