I still remember Dr. MLV Akka has taken me to Tirumala on the occasion of 1st Birthday of her grandson and the same day akka had performed concert. And we all had good Darsan through VIP kota Darshan of Lord Venkateswara. That time we all Sanker sir, Viji akka, child, and all orchestras all went for Darsan. All these memorable things I can't forget. Akka was so kind and without asking she gives. We can't see such people in our life. I never pass a single day without thinking MLV Akka. Once in R R Sabha, Tiruchi, she sang a tharangini Sharanam. Bhava karunaamayee in the raaga Ravi Chandrika ( or was it Poorna Chandrika, I forgot). The Kalpana swaras she executed was like lightning and thunder cascading one korvai after another just like Niagaraa falls. When she finished the song, the applause was for full 5 minutes, standing ovation. The very fact that the great legend Palghat Mani Iyer, who was unwilling to accompany female artists, set aside his principle and accompanied her for several concerts purely on account her talent. A great performer. A full musician. Her film song " எல்லாம் இன்ப மயம் " is a master piece.

Growing up in Madras, my elders always talked about MLV's 'Katcheris'. She was also known through her light music songs in many Tamil films. I would not say MLV was a 'much neglected genius'.......

It is known that M. L.
