Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. If a Pokémon faints, then it must be permanently boxed.
2. I can only catch the first encounter on each Route.
3. No bag items in battle, except for pokéballs. (Held items are allowed)
4. Must be played on "Set" battle mode.
5. Cannot level over the next gym leader/elite 4's highest level pokémon.

I wish every Elite Four member's ace could mega evolve in the original game. You have access to mega evolution so early and you only ever fight 3 megas in the entire game. The first of which is with your own Lucario that can mega evolve.

The fight in reflection cave made sense. Gotta keep in mind the priority for moves that have secondary effects. It gets me all the time too. That is my understanding of the AI. Im on my 11th attempt so far, this is proving very difficult but I have very limited experience so it makes sense. Nuzlocking vanilla games is too easy tho.

I just remembered another thing that happened to me frequently that ruined calcs. The calcs need updating frequently and sometimes it will automatically put the battle to doubles (moves like EQ do less in doubles). So I often times was in kill range but the calcs weren’t showing it bc it was under the assumption it was a double battle. 😊

For anyone looking to nuzlocke this hack (at least the 2.1 version), the AI always going for status moves first is a bit more complicated, but 100% predictable. Basically, it operates with two tiers of status moves. The top tier consists of effects that it will always use as long as it doesn't see a kill. The second tier has effects that it will always use as long as no attacking move does more than 50% of a mon's current HP. Applying poison (and Toxic) is in the second tier, not the first. But it's even more detailed than that, and the same move can fall into multiple tiers depending on the circumstances. Applying burn to a physical attacker, for instance, is in the top tier, whereas applying it to a special attacker is in the lower tier. Same thing for using Stealth Rock, the first use is in the top tier, but additional layers is in the bottom tier. But there's more. Attacking moves that are guaranteed to apply an effect if they hit - from Nuzzle and Inferno to Struggle Bug and Aqua Step - are treated as both damaging moves and status moves. So if the status they're guaranteed to inflict falls into either of the tiers, you'll need to plan for that. The game comes with a doc that lays out the exact priorities of the AI in each tier, so you even know which status move it'll go for if it has more than one. And be sure to check the move changes - for instance, Rock Smash is guaranteed to lower defense in this hack, which means it can totally be considered a status move. Good luck! 😁

I tried a Nuzlocke and failed at the second trainer I encountered and I caught a Wooper Vaniville Town then I got a Swablu in Route 1 and a Bunnery in Route 2 and my Starter was Foroxie and I still failed with 6 - 7 level Pokemon.

AI does not see switches in AX. The AI is actually pretty deterministic thanks to Axyn and therefore very abusable.

The only possibility I can see with the AI (outside of it reading your inputs or being changed in the mod) is that in double battles the AI may have a ‘coin toss’ feature if it sees more than 1 KO or doesn’t see any KO’s and as such chooses randomly… But that seems unlikely based on how many factors it would take to create these conditions, and the AI broke in several single battles anyway, so it’s honestly quite possible that Ancestral X uses a tweaked AI

Maybe, I honestly can't be sure. If I had to guess, it must be something related to previous move being unsuccessful (protected against) which causes it to change its attention to the other slot since that would be the next highest damaging choice.

The AI won't always go for a status move if it doesn't see a kill. There are basically 4 priority tiers: 1 the ai sees a kill 2 status moves tier 1 3 the ai has one or more moves with at least 1 roll dealing at least 50% of your CURRENT hp 4 status moves tier 2 (like toxic) There are actually 7 priority tiers but theese are the ones the AI uses in 99% of battles, btw everything is explained in detail in the docs
