So nice to see others driving this vehicle still. This vehicle has been in the family quite some time and is my daily driver winter beater vehicle. So nice to see videos helping fix common issues Aspen owners have. Thanks for making this video!

Where I'm at now we've been at -40c for 2 weeks solid lol my screwdriver fell out after a year but put it back in and keeps the windows and floors good 👍

What do you have to do with the screwdriver to get it to work?

thanks for the vid... having the same issue in an 09 durango limited with dual / digital climate. definitely not worth the cost to fix the actual flapper mechanism as its a salvage (ins totaled for cosmetic damage with cheap buy back - can't even tell now). time to tear into it. in my case we can hear a whirring from the area of the actuator indicating that it is spinning. it never had a popping or clicking but can't rule out a one time snap. seems to be the same issue as yours.

Ya its a big job to swap out entire heater box so a screwdriver works for me
@gingerjordan2 жыл бұрын
Im dealing with the exact same issue on my 08 chrysler aspen. Just over 400km. My actuator is still rotating im going to see if i can manually rotate that clip piece to the defrost mode.. If not, might have to do this method.

So I had to use the screw driver method and it worked, had It on defrost all winter. When summer hit, I took screw driver out and it went back to face vents for A/C. Now its winter again and I can't seem to get the screw driver to push the vent back to defrost 😭

I was told it was my actuator because I get a tapping noise on the passenger side of my dash board does that mean I still have to change it above the gas pedal
@gingerjordan11 ай бұрын
I was going to ask if you were successful to switch it back to face vent and back to defrost more then once? I got it to hit defrost last winter. Then switched it back to face vents this summer for A/C. But now this winter it's been difficult to get the screw driver to put it back on defrost.

I drive everything Thank you for this video. I drove my car with no heat other than out of the front vents blowing hot in my face all last winter. 2008 Aspen 410k km Question: Can you take the screwdriver out in the summer for A/C and put it back in during winter? Also is there a way the flap/door could be drilled out, pounded a metal dowel pin with splines in it coated in epoxy to reattach the original broken plastic piece?
@gingerjordan11 ай бұрын
Darn he never answered your question. I was trying to ask him the same thing. I went and took the screw driver out this summer and put it on face vents for A/C this summer. And now I'm struggling to get it back on defrost.. Did you ever give it a try?

I got the same problem just wondering how did you test the actuator
@idriveanything17012 жыл бұрын
I held it outside of the heater box with it plugged in to see if it moved

The thermostat knob on mine broke off in my hand. Now it's stuck on hot with 80°f +/- weather. How do I pull out the entire hvac unit?

Hey man, great video! I was sadly "blessed" with the life of owning a beater Aspen as well. My vents do not change either, and while being suck on defrost is the better situation, I just want to see if the actuators are a quick fix. If the actuators work, is it straightforward to see if that plastic connector is broken off? Or did you have a dig a little inside? My vents went through a period where you just had to turn the car off and on again for them to switch, so I'm hoping its an actuator. Let me know. Again, great video

Sounds like this was a MODE door problem. A BLEND door controls the temperature. A MODE door controls the airflow. It's too confusing to call everything a BLEND door when trying to troubleshoot the climate control system.

How You got Aspen with kilometers? I thought all cars in USA have miles on dashboard. I need kms in my Aspen that I brought o Europe. 😉

I'm pretty sure you can change that via the overhead console, I've done it before. something like this (Settings, Units, then choose imperial or metric settings for things like fuel economy, speedometer, etc.) I don't remember exactly but give that a try.

That top one is your defrost actuator
@angelinacorkran92713 жыл бұрын
Top to the right or the one that requires the accelerating petal to be removed? I just replaced the blend door actuator where he has the screw driver and bought a climate control unit (the one on the dash with all the buttons) still same issue.
@idriveanything17012 жыл бұрын
I did it with pedal attached and it wasn't my actuator the actual blend door flap snapped and the insert is gone so actuator will just move freely
