Dude no way. I have the exact same problem, my tac was jumping up and down constantly and bugged me. Found out it was the amps causing the rpm’s to go up and down. Also figured out my PCM is completely fried but my batteries are still getting charged too. Shops searching for one now

How do you check grounds and all wires, fuses and sensors? Is there a check list that I can go through so that I know I don't miss something? I know my PCM is bad and I have a new one ready to go in. But whatever short caused the PCM to go bad in the first place might cause a new PCM to go bad too. I will definitely put a fuse on the blue wire between the alternator and PCM for protection. But I'm at a loss as to what else to check and therefore afraid to put the new one in. My 2000 Dodge 3500 Maxivan (Gas fueled) runs fine except for the check engine light and the error message indicated an issue with the PCM.

Great Vid, Thanks. Previous owner put in external V regulator, so now i have to continue with that mod. It went out, no alt charging. but also having issue with oil pres gauge intermittently working. Hope its just a sending unit. Thank for the info

I replaced my alt because it was bad, changed to a new battery, but I still have to get it jumped. My volt gauge on my truck as well even with a new battery wouldn’t go up all the way to the middle. All my other gauges seemed to work just fine

AC current off of it alternator will wipe out your ECM and your PCM . Never buy a reman alternator for these . Took me forever to figure that out .

My 98 3500 not even my tac works the oil pressure moves slightly upon Turing key but will not go over 0psi and non of the other grudges work as well more likely the cluster or pcm

Did you have the pcm programmed to your vin or did it work without doing that? We did an engine swap for a buddy but he forgot to grab the pcm or the vin with the engine, ecm, and wiring harness. So we've hit a dead end.

My truck is a 98 and it says on pcm that it was changed in 01. So do they only last 3 years. I have had guage problems since 2007 and its now 2022 and finally no juice going to fuel pump relay won't even come on the truck will crank though.

The 2 issues were separate causes but as far as the charging system goes bought a used computer and that fixed it

@@christophershelly1777 I dought you’re problem is going to be the same problem I had the dickweed I bought the the truck from had a torque converter lock box and it was wired up wrong I ended up ripping the whole unit out and back to stock

Hey man my 01 24V has dead pedal every so often for a couple seconds with TPS CEL codes. Also the gauge cluster will go out and come on when it wants with “No Bus” on the screen. Would you say PCM for this issue? Or are they not related? Not sure tbh thanks lol

Got lucky and some guy was parting out the exact same truck as mine. Got to match up the number on your pcm. Has to be the same. I am going to send my old one out for a rebuild and shelf it.

@@ronaldmorrow1435 if the part numbers match, do you still need to have it reflashed? due to the vin mismatch? i’m seeing almost the same issues, i’ve ruled out most of the common causes. truck is fairly new to me, but it looks like and old driver side battery exploded however long ago, and the inside of my power distribution center is NASTY and there’s acid on everything, i could feel it when i cleaned everything. gonna replace that, and look for a pcm, seeing that a short in/under the fuse box in the right component could’ve smoked my pcm. and my asd relay is getting hot enough to melt the plastic, i’ve been through 3 of them so far. i hadn’t troubleshot it until now because i revamped my braking system after they failed, and when i was finished, the batteries were dead

@@ronaldmorrow1435 thank you. i’m looking for one now. my buddy has the same truck, swapped for a few minutes and the issue followed. my pcm plugs have electrical tape on them that looks 100 years old. i’ve got some wiring issues to track down somewhere, that probably smoked my pcm. fun stuff

No, ecm is located on the drivers side of the engine behind the injection pump.

I'd start by hooking up a scanner to your obd2 port and read the error codes. Is your alternator still charging the batteries? If so then I'd think the pcm is fine and you have a wire/sensor issue or cluster issue.
