I think the 4.7 was a really good replacement for the 318 magnum engine, but that 5.7 Hemi (in my opinion) is just a slap in the face to those of us who drive, and even repair these trucks. The 4.7L is just as reliable as the 318 and gets better fuel economy plus is just more powerful. The 5.7L Hemi was supposed to replace the 360 Magnum and it just didn’t do it good at all. Sure the Hemi gets better fuel economy, but it’s generally less reliable and doesn’t make anymore power than the 360 magnum of the old days did. That’s why I drive a 4.7L in my ram 1500 with select shift. She does powerbrake burnouts and rips around sharp turns. I love this truck, and I think when I do finally get a Cummins I’ll keep it around.

J S no, not with this little power tech 4.7L they will actually hurt the bottom end torque. Don't waste your money unless your purely going for sound. Simple Google search will show Dyno sheets and articles from tuners to back it up. If you want more power get a 2008+ intake manifold off of a 4.7L. A set of HO cams and beehive valves Air ram sells a forced air scoop that goes behind the grill of the Rams that will force some cool fresh air towards your intake. 70 or 72mm Throttle body. To answer your questions about the difference between the 4.7 and 5.7 is Dodge squeezed pretty much all they could get out of the 5.7 off the line while the 4.7 has a lot of room for growth. In a nut shell

Dodge didn't squeeze all they could out of the 5.7. Every engine has room for growth. It's just that 25hp is more noticeable on a vehicle that has 235 compared to 395hp. The last 2 years or so if the 4.7 back in like 2011 and 12 were detuned a bit. So the numbers online of the gains are higher than the older 4.7L. They can add a bit to that 4.7 but not the older one. I think the claim was like 50hp on the last years of the 4.7.
@timmypstyle7 жыл бұрын
You go from 235hp to 260, your 0-60 drops quite a bit. Add 25hp to a 395hp truck and it's already fast so it only gives it a few tenths. The more power you have, the more it takes to get the performance gains. My 14 ram gained .2 off a vararam ram air intake and ported and polished throttle body. But my 202hp 08 V6 f150 dropped .5 from just the intake and another near second off with a custom tune. Went from about 10 seconds stock to 8.5 modded. My ram went from 7.2 to 5.9 with a higher gain tune, ram air, and ported and polished throttle body.

@timmypstyle4 жыл бұрын
So I stumbled across this video again after a few years. With your comment about the programmers unlocking more on the 4.7L rhan the hemi, it is not the older 4.7. It is with the ones rated at 300+hp from the factory. Dodge detuned them a bit to sell more hemis. So with a programmer, you can add what they detuned AND add some power from the program. So the program itself only adds like 15-20hp but the amount added from the detuned portion is like another 30. So you can get like a 50hp gain whereas the 5.7 only gets about 20-25. But no, the earlier 4.7 rated at 235hp area is not included in that.

So I have a 2011 4.7 flex fuel on my Dakota. Rated at 302hp I think. So how much could I add? Vid the tune

@@redfox-zj5mn you should expect at least 30, but according to diablosport, you should be getting about 45-50hp. Sometimes they simply a bit high with their numbers tho. So thats why I say expect at least 30. But best thing to do is contact hemifever or Jay Greene and ask how much. I definitely recommend a custom tune if you are going to get a tune. They aren't much more money if you buy the device thru them, and its way more worth it. I felt a bigger difference going to the hemifever 93 tune from the diablosport 93 tune than going to the diablo tune from stock.

Programmers will only hurt your performance if you say put a 93 tune but have 87 gas in it. OR if a tune is written wrong (custom tune) both is very bad. Whatever tune you load, you cannot go below that number in octane in the gas but you can go higher. Example 91 tune with 89 gas is bad but 91 tune with 91 or 93 octane is ok. The number on the tune is the minimum octane you can go. I have a 14 hemi ram and my diablosport tuner added power and better mpgs.

Fords go with sct or edge. Chevy not sure on gas but i think banks is the preferred for duramax dodge diablosport gas and i think its banks and/or bullydog for cummins. Gas engines dont add much power. This 4.7 probably got 10-15hp at the peak but they do strengthen the whole power and torque band so it feels like more. My 4.2L V6 08 f150 i had went from about 9.8 seconds to 8.5ish with intake and tune. Tune was custom and was told by the writer that i was gaining 10-15 with both combined. My 14 hemi ram has 395hp stock, intake and 91 canned tune about 25 more. Guy who is going to write a 91 custom tune said his 93 tune is about 30hp more, 91 is about 25 more. Intakes advertise more than they give. Mine for my ram advertised 13 or so but realistically its about 5-10. The one for my f150 advertised like 7 but the experts said probably 2 or 3. Intakes definitely make it sound a lot more aggressive inside.

I did so much shit to that motor to make it adequate. I should have just done a motor swap and put a 5.9L v8 from the Dakota rt in there. but I was young...i put every bolt on that you could think of on that thing...including a custom cam. that Lil 3.9L sure did scream when I was done building her. original specs were 175hp/235trq. had it dynod...with just the bolt on and custom cam and a good dyno tune I was at 267hp/290trq. pretty good change I'd say. then I had a 2005 reg cab chevy silverado with the 5.3L . same thing...bolt ons, cam, and 4.56 motive rear gears. I never got my chevy dynod so I estimate the power and torque to be in thé low 400's and torque in the low to mid 400's. now I'm in a 2015 ram 1500 hemi 4x4. waiting for things to come out and get cheaper lol. bottom line...good vid...and good character. later dude.

Yep, the 5.7 Hemi is a powerful engine, quite abit more horsepower stock than our 4.7's, BUT, that depends on the year/model too. Take the WK Generation 1 Jeep Grand Cherokee's. Their 4.7 V8's from 2005-2007 came from the factory with 235HP/305lb of torque but they made some changes & from 2008-2010, the WK 4.7's got a boost in ponies up to 305HP/330lb of torque. And that's not too much less than a Hemi from 05-2010, on the base Hemi's anyway.

the 90s dodge trucks with the 5.9 360s, does anybody know how good a chip is on one of those?

+Tanner Smith you must have know some people with that truck and trans that got a lemon...because the dodge/Chrysler trans are actually pretty beefy for their specs compared to the competition at the time. they might not have had the desired gear ratios vs. the competition gear ratios which were better set up for acceleration and towing per the bracket year. but as far as the strength of the parts and longevity...if properly maintained the dodge/Chrysler trans usually will last just as long as the comparable gm 4l60e...and last longer than ford's light duty pick up trans at the time as far as torque handling limits. you or whomever had these experiences must have had a lemon dude. lol. I have had alot of Chrysler and doge vehicles...truck mostly...and always worked them hard as fuck. and I did alot of burnouts...and went down to the local drag strip on Friday nights with my 5.9L and 46re. as long as u maintain it...Ur usually good to go. I never had an issue once. only when high milage occurred did the gears start to slip a little? yeah...but that's normal wear and tear. Anywho. ..sorry for you negative experience. I'm not saying your wrong and I'm right...just have a conversation. later dude.

Jake Morris no prob Bob ;-) what I think it is...is...when you get a die hard ford, dodge, and chevy guy together...all of them are going to say my dick is bigger than yours hahaha. Or my v8 will beat your v8. Or mine is easier to work on than yours, etc, etc... what it really boils down to I think is when guys modify their vehicles...that puts more added stress on the drive train including the trans. And some manufacturers for certain years left their transmissions with a little grace area. Meaning if the 4.7Lv8 for a ram put out say...235hp and around 300 trq(example...I'm not sure of the exact specs of the 4.7)...they would have the absolute torque handling of that trans be slightly above. I think dodge/Chrysler/ram rate the 46re at 600 newton meters...which when converted to lbs feet is well above the 300 lbs feet of torque the 4.7L puts out. So if you were to modify it...it could handle the increased hp and trq. Or if you kept it stock and just worked the crap out of it...it would be good to go. Problem is....sometimes torque and horsepower limit is real close to what the engine is making.or crank hp. Some years manufacturers were generous certain years with the torque handling limit of their trans. And then sometimes they were not. I think this has alot to do with it as well as being properly maintained. With your truck dude...you could probably get away with a cold air intake...full exhaust...headers of your choosing...aired aired power programmer or dyno tune...aired you'd still be under the torque limit of that trans. Like you said...as long as she gets her oil changes...occasionally a trans flush(i do it every 20k miles) and engine flush(every 30 to 50k miles) she shouldn't grenade on you. Unless you tow past their capacity or race every day...then ur just asking for it lol.

Evan Bozajian yeah i do all the matinence on my truck myself, the body is in excelent shape and i plan to keep it that way, i just beat on the drivetrain tho. But a properly maintained engine will last a very long time, currently my truck has just over 81k on it, its all stock because nobody makes any aftermarket "performance" parts for it, otherwise i would have an intake manifold, and longtube headers connected to true duals with glasspacks. But ive looked everywhere online and ive never seen performance heads or cams for the 4.7, not even long tube headers, only shorty headers that people say take some modifying to fit, so i guess im out of luck finding stuff like that.

Tire spin, what tire spin? We definitely didn’t hear a spin and the rpm gauge didn’t rise like a tire spinning vehicle would. My 05 Dakota would smoke your truck and yes I know mine weighs less, but with the factory 17’s my truck will only bark the tires on a launch. If yours is a 4x4 I seriously doubt it’s roasting the tires. I’d have to see it to believe it. Post a video of it smoking the tires without power braking. If it roasts the tires then I’ve just stuck my foot in my mouth, but I think I’m pretty safe.

@gittyupalice963 жыл бұрын
All a programmer does is change the fuel to air ratio at any given rpm vs throttle input. On the newer engines I believe the ignition timing can be changed too. So no, it is possible to get more out of a 5.7 with an intake and exhaust. But that shits honestly a waste of time, when the money amounts to the equivalent of a cam and head work.

Hey whats up guys. Thats a nice sounding truck brother. I like the blue light on the gauges looks good man. I'm seriously looking into buying a used 02-05 gas v8 4x4 truck. Ummm I was jw how like your ram? I mean I want to get the most bang for my buck. Hemis are awesome but they can be pricey.
@itskpmofo12 жыл бұрын
lowering it should have made it a little faster, my lift slowed mine down considerably. maybe try a cold air intake? it's hard to make them faster without spending a lot of money.

i have a tuner on my car and it has the hemi and the stock tunes really didnt impress me but if you pay to go have it dyno tuned the hemi is a badass engine but i had an 03 ram 1500 with the 4.7 crew cab short bed 4x4 on 36s and i would rather have the 4.7l than the hemi i pull car trailers and the 4.7l didnt even bog down and i still got 14mpg on the highway pulling the trailer where the hemi only get 8 and it has trouble getting up to speed with it
