How to make your non folding rear seat a folding rear seat. Make a blow through, amp rack location or storage you decide.
This also helps raise the seat so you can fit those aftermarket boxes under there with no problems.

cigar FMFDoc ..... Wow, ive known about this mod for over a decade...they sell the spacers to lift the backseat 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches depending how much you need for 30 to 50 bucks but i like this guys mod!!!

If you don't need it raised and you just want it to fold all you have to do is put the fastener/bar thingies on the back wall upside down on a 3rd gen.

I've got a 2015 Ram 1500 Longhorn Hi, after seeing most of the videos on YT about the backseat mod I gave it a try. I got very lucky....after taking off the nuts that bolt the rear seats down, I used nuts for spacers---I used 5/8" nuts for spacers since I had some on hand. That was all I did!....Works by raising the seat to the point that the backrest is at its highest and with a quick jerk the backrest folds down! To return it to upright raise the bottom to the same point and give the back a good thrust from about two (2) inches away and it'll pop right back in place. The benefit is no one else will be able to lower them, no cutting of any parts so it'll go back to original if so desired, and even "someone" searching the vehicle can't tell there's been any mod and can't open it.....Well, at least not without a piece of paper saying they can tear the truck apart. Thought I'd share. Hope this proves useful to someone.

THANKS! Great mod! In my 2017 Quad, raising the seat rubbed the electric rear window a lot the last 4 inches of open. I could make new holes in the bench to move it forward a bit, but instead decided to just bolt it back in the original position and height and cut off the back hooks a bit more. Works great. Made sure the hooks released and hooked when seat bottom was at 45 degrees with a little tug. The hooks latch more if seat bottom is all the way up or down. More noise - I think from air vents, so may cut original sound deadening panel to cover useless storage top half and air vents. Black fuzzy fabric draped down back of seat to hide anything back there from being seen under seat when seat is up.

So I was looking for ideas on spacing the rear seat and came across your video. Very helpful. I mounted 2 amps on an amp board under the pass side (behind the cubbyhole) but that side needs a little more clearance for the seat to sit all the way down. The sub is in the storage cubby on the drivers side so spacing that, while not required, gives the sub a little more breathing room. And the added bonus of being able to flip the seats forward with the addition of the spacers is an added benefit I must say. I will try the 3/4" route and see how that goes. on my 2014 Ram 2500 the 13.5" length was to short but fit behind the pin and to the back bolt. i just made a 2x2 block for the front and left a gap for the placement pin. I used a 1x6 board and cut it down and the space was perfect. I liked the full support idea much more than the washers. I used M12 x 175 60mm long bolts with heavy spacers and it bolted in perfect. Easier to just trim the metal tabs on the back of the seat. That's what I did. If you're going to add spacers, please use metal (not wood) and longer bolts. Otherwise you may be negatively effecting the structural integrity of your rear seats.

I watched Rusty Shackleford video on this Friday. I cut 1 inch off my back seat hooks Saturday. Worked great. I wouldn’t have put boards underneath the seat because it messes with the integrity of the seats bolted to the floor. Less threads on the bolts holing the seat to the floor.

FYI, you do not have to go through all this work, and compromise safety by putting "spacers" under your seat bolts. All you need to do is simply take your seats out, and flip the eyelets or whatever you want to call them, that are bolted to the back wall. easy peasy

On the 02-08 rams all you need to do is flip over the bracket on the back wall of the cab. No need for a spacer.

Do you suppose I could raise my seat about 3in or 4in by using a 4 by 4 in there or welding a steel square tubing in there and then using longer bolts of course. I understand I will be obstructing the back window but what does that even matter.

longer bolts are definitely a good idea because as you raise the seat the factory bolts don't go in as far leaving you with less threads gripping holding the seat in. I kept the factory bolts in for now but will be adding longer ones soon.

2017 Quad. With the back down, from the seat bottom to the wall (sound deadening panel removed) there is 3” max in some places big enough for 2 long gun cases or 30x12 gun box. Back of seat up and latched, seat down, above the seat bottom it is 5” max, but narrows to about 3” when seat bottom is up.

patrick kelly you would have to lift seat up to clear the hooks on the back wall but once the cover is on put it back and you should be good
