I wasn't a fan, but then I drove such cars as the F40 and it just clicked. My 180SX is turbo and I love that too. You have to drive them differently, be on the throttle sooner to get the turbo spooled up, but I find that can be a bonus. You plant your foot a second earlier than in an N/A car, the car uses a smaller amount of power, that builds as you come out of a corner. You can drive the car to match the turbo curve. No one counts the Cygnet as an Aston, it's just an emissions thing!

If you really look closely his points are anything but valid. "Relying on torque, low revs and gearing makes a car feel stodgy and slower than it is." - Incorrect, the reason, that many cars feel fast is because of their torque. Torque is what pins you to the seat and allows you to over take without dropping down a gear. It does not make a car feel slow. Continuing-

I'm not trolling, you came and commented on my video with a very useless, uninformed comment. Acceleration is defined as the rate at which an object changes its velocity. An object is accelerating if it is changing its velocity. Therefore, the title of the video is fine.
@dragoonuvl11 жыл бұрын
Um, Yes, a Viper is that short. The Viper has a shorter wheel base than the Jaguar F-Type... The F40 isn't aggressive, it just has agressive Turbos. It would of been better minus the turbos in my opinion. The engine in the Viper is very different from the truck motor. And yes, the Italian cars do give a far more warning than the Viper. But who would you rather have as a mistress? The safe girl or the spontaneous girl? These aren't everyday cars we're talking about.
@TheWierdFish11 жыл бұрын
Half right. It's problem is that it doesn't rev high enough. V10s actually sound amazing when they rev higher than 6k, which is where the Viper stops.
@TheWierdFish11 жыл бұрын
Relying on torque, low revs and gearing makes a car feel stodgy and slower than it is. It's a common trick used for high end luxury cars, because it's less noticeable. But you don't want that in a performance car, do you? You want to feel the power, feel the speed. You want your head kicked in by raw performance. So you rev the nuts off of it, and get the kick you want. Same torque, even more power with the higher revs = much faster.
@maszynman12 жыл бұрын
OK all the experts.. a V8 engine was used in the original test mule. So it's the first engine that Viper ever had, clear ? To all the fans of Viper, its V10 comes from Dodge's truck engine, why would you even call it a sports car ? I'd call it Red Lorry. Why argue, how difficult is it to pull 500 hbp from an 8.0L engine ?
@CemetaryGatesML12 жыл бұрын
@JDYDesigns also... the chasis that the american companys are using are off older generation mercedies. so a 2009 challenger is using 2001 mercedes chasis. not exactly "test for sales" the americans are just using it to lower cost of the vehicle by eliminating the high cost of designing a hole new vehicle.

@dragoonuvl11 жыл бұрын
All of the cars you mentioned have far less weight than what we are talking about here. Let me ask you, why is it that F1 cars accelerate slower than a dragster funny car? The F1 cars typically rev much higher than the pushrods seen on the dragstrip. It's torque, thats what determines how fast someone makes it to the triple digits. From there HP takes over.

There have been 'better' Ferrari's... but none that do quite what the F40 does. It's the last of the raw, purely mechanical Ferrari's, and it's also the best of those. This means it gives excellent feedback, and is more of a goal to tame. You know every mistake you make is YOU, not some electronic fucking up, and you know that every perfect corner is YOU not some electronic wizardry. To drive, it's so light, it's like driving a go cart. A 470hp, 200mph go cart. It's a massive buzz.

Viper was a 'used' one and was priced at about $40,000 and at the time the exchange rate was $2 to the £ so worked out a good deal Was only going to cost about £800 to ship to the UK. Fuel costs in the UK are about 6 times that of the US. So yeah the fuel costs would have been far too expensive to justify.

actually to further argue your point velocity in physics is defined as a change in direction or speed.. therefore your title makes even more sense as both happened
@dragoonuvl11 жыл бұрын
"They give a very sudden drop of grip past the limit, which I suppose could be considered aggressive." - Again incorrect, the Viper's short wheelbase is the reason for its sudden loss of grip. Also the Viper does give a warning to it's driver before the wheels begin to slip, its slight but if you are in tune with the car you can just about feel it. I can go on and on about his inaccuracies, if you driven, rode in, or generally been around Vipers a while you'll see the BS in most of his words.

The F40 is like an uncivilized Xj220. I honesty can't fathom the appeal it gets. I understand it was Enzo's last car but honestly their have been better. The F type is alright but I still feel the XK is a better car, better to look at, cheaper to insure, and with the extra wheelbase, more compliant on long journeys. I'm not really a convert person so I'll have to wait for the coupe. Well that's hard, both are so appealing in their own ways. I mean, ones dangerous and the other is tempting...

I thought you didn't like cars that were difficult to tame? It is exactly the reasons you pointed out which why I perfer the Viper to many of the Ferraris running around today. The F type isn't a particularly wide car either. I'm also not talking about how quickly it rotates, I'm talking about the way in which the limit of grip is reached. The F40 is better with the turbos. Power, AND the teeny engine makes it light and balanced It's a truck engine by basic design, and even metaphorically, given its lazy character. Who would you rather have as a mistress? True torque usually stiffens top end performance, but in an everyday appilication I would rather take torque than a powerband I can never really reach every day. As a weekend car, now. I would like my torque to be in the 2500 and drop off around 7K. I disagree, a sports car should make 80 feel like 40. That way when your going 150 you can actually tell the cop you didn't know how fast you were going. I'm always worrying about torque especially in the rain in the corners, or on racing slicks.

I like cars that are a challenge, not impossible. I like cars that are hard to get, not complete bitches. There is a difference, and it's a fine line between greatness and failure, but that is true of anything. Modern Ferrari's are a techfest, almost all cars are. But Ferrari's just feel purer. You don't notice the electronics as much as with other cars.

You need as much torque (force) as it takes to move the car, and not much more. From there, power takes over. Torque gets you rolling, from there it's all about how fast you can deliver it. A high powered engine with ENOUGH torque feels right, too much torque and it feels meaty (which is nice, but not what you want in a sports car) too little makes it feel gutless and asthmatic. BUT, what are gears? Continuous levers. Levers that multiply torque. High revving engines with proper gearing are best

So? 1000hp is very much over the top too. A 6 litre engine, making 600hp, is plenty in the Viper chassis as it stands. Actually, a precision tuned engine needs the same maintenance as any other. It needs more to keep it precise, but that's the price you pay for having a good engine. If you let it slip a bit, it won't make as much power, and will be worse. Personally, as someone who likes cars and driving, I don't mind spending a little extra time having a car I'm happy with. Vipers... too lazy.
