funny thing is, in Germany this is the history of football managers. We always had games that included sponsors, stadiums and personal life.

EA's football manager 2002 already allowed you to find sponsors for every individual board and you always had to balance term vs money. Game also allowed you to spend your money on meaningless stuff like Helis or apartments, which was nice.

IIRC the last version of the game didn't have a 3d engine, so this is a step forward in the right direction. Will be interesting to see how they move forward, and if what they do differently has some appeal.

I like the idea of this, takes me back to similar elements of FIFA Manager where you had ultimate control over the stadium, sponsorship, running of the club, training camps etc… just let down by the poor match engine. However, I like the look and feel of this and will buy it just to help with the development in the future :) lacking the 3D match engine really but FM had years to develop theirs so let’s hope for a continued development :)

Apparently the 3d engine is new for this version so hopefully will improve! I will be doing a more detailed playthrough video over the weekend - looking forward to getting to grips with it

As far as I know the guy that did the Anstoss games (german football manager) that also worked on total club manager 2002 and 2003 worked on this game. So you can clearly see his fingerprints with all the stuff you can do.

@@spiderbootsy I honestly feel your overestimating the upgrade. They haven't even touched the sounds in the game (other than adding official songs) since the DOWNGRADE in 2004. They will probably never have beautiful graphics or visuals to show training grounds and such. They literally forced modders to take down ad board mods. The only company I have heard of that sent letters to modders to STOP upgrading graphics for fun. While you think I am talking out of my backside, I have been a tester for SI, on/off across two decades. I even appear in the credits of the game. I lost faith in the company a few years back.

This game feels like a mixture of Ultimate Soccer Manager (I saw someone else in the comments call this out - good spot!) and the German management game ‘Kicker’ (aka ‘Ally McCoists Director of Football’ in the UK). It’s an alternative for sure!

I've been playing We are Football 2024. I created my own team and started in the lowest level in England. I'm 3 seasons in, broke, and running my team into the ground. With that said, it's a fun game. I'd like to see you try a season if you have time. Have a good one!

It's hard to not look at it as football manager but there were a few good ideas in there would you say? Maybe not zombie apocalypse training and divorce, but some of the training and time planning stuff looked interesting

Agreed and I definitely want to take a closer look at transfers, contact negotiations, etc. The whole approach of scheduling your week and the infusion of planning meetings, sponsorship events, junior recruitment days and so on looks great. The zombie apocalypse and sudden breakdown of my marriage were a bit lost on me though 😅

This may seem like a small thing, but to me it says a lot about the polish of the game. I noticed some teams had home and away kits that were almost identical. One of the teams you were given to choose at the start had an all red kit and an all red kit with white sleeves. I saw something similar when you were choosing a team for a friendly match. This tells me kit clashing will be a constant problem in this game. I know there's an editor, but is it the duty of the player now to fix hundreds of kits that the devs couldn't get right on their own? Since this video only showed a small sampling of teams and I saw the problem twice, I have to believe it's a constant issue. I scratched this game off my list once I saw the second example of this. It speaks to the developer's inability to create a polished game and pay attention to details. They know they have a 3D engine, they know these teams will be displayed on the pitch. Am I to believe that none of the devs found themselves in a game with one team wearing all red and another team wearing all red with white sleeves; or if they did find themselves in such a game, how did they possibly think it was acceptable not being able to tell the two teams apart? I imagine someone might read this and say, "But it's a tiny development team." To that I would remind them that it takes the same amount of time to create a club with an all red home kit and an all white away kit as it does to make a club with two kits that are essentially identical.

Thanks for the detailed comment - one thing I initially recorded but then edited out was that you can change the kits when you take over a club, but you are right that it would be better if the defaults were 'proper' home and away kits. The real name fix and graphics pack is easy to install and I will post a video on that later this week.

I can't even count the number of times I've had kit clashes in FM24...Just saying. If we're going to hold a smaller dev team to that nitpicky of a standard then we should do the same for SI and FM24.

I always wanted the social aspect to be added to FM just so that I have something to do with the money I'm earning. Otherwise, I just put my wage demands to the lowest possible so they don't influence the finances of my club.

I tried the demo. I really like how much more indepth it csn get than FM. It's really good and the UI/DB feels good. Player's have peraolities that make sense. The main reason i haven't gotten further than the demo is because of the match engine, it's no where near FM. I dont get why too. No hate on developers, i know its hsrd to make a game but i play FM because i like to watch football, i want to see my players play, score goals with the best animations, graphics possible. If you can't compete with FM's ME, why bother??

I think the question of "more control" being better or not is an interesting one in these types of games. Many people are annoyed with say, how the stadiums work in FM. And while I agree it can be frustrating, it's also sort of part of the job. The manager of the team doesn't have control over everything. Is adapting to the management making decisions over your head part of the game? Or should we develop it and let the player control these things as well? Same for sponsors and such. It's not really the manager's problem in real life. Should it be added?

I am guessing this is Total Club Manager we had in the early 2000's and probably a lot of the same developers.

Dont get me wrong i am all for competition, but leaving out African leagues is a travesty. FM failed to add leagues from that continent, whose leageus are doing pretty fine if i may add. Its sad that these guys equally neglected that as well. atleast FM added just the South African league at some point.
