This one hurts bad. I was a kid going to Dodger games with my dad during Fernandomania. We were at the no hitter in 1990. So many fantastic moments and memories. He was such an icon. His impact culturally and on the game is legendary. Fernandomania Forever. Rest in power, El Toro 💙

When I worked for the San Diego Padres, we always had Dodgers fans take over Petco Park. When you talked to the Dodgers fans, you would ask the ones who were local to San Diego why they would root for LA and not the home team. Every single one would tell you they had a father, mother, granddad, grandmother, uncle, aunt, older cousin etc. that got into baseball because of one name. Fernando. He was the patron saint of Mexican baseball and to this day, there are Dodgers fans in San Diego, Orange County, San Francisco, Arizona and all over this country because of him. Fernando Por Siempe.
@Zennofobic11 күн бұрын
San Diegan born and raised but never watched baseball. I could name about 4 padres and about 12 Dodgers, much like Fernando was to Mexicans and latinos Shohei is that way with Asians. Started watching this year and was totally caught up in everything having to do with the Dodgers but I started watching for Ohtani and got caught up in everyone's story lines Freeman, Mookie, Teoscar love that Dave Roberts is from San Diego we're the same age haha... anyways San Diegan here and a Dodger fan.

This one really hurts. I was born in L.A. and followed the Dodgers during the first part of my youth, but then we moved away and I eventually became attached to the team from my new home. I returned to Los Angeles for school in 1979, just in time to witness the rise of Fernandomania and the improbable World Series championship of 1981. Of course, I was familiar with many Dodgers stars, but Fernando was the first who was younger than me. He will always be "the kid," as far as I'm concerned, and it seems unimaginable that he's gone while I'm still here.

Here's to one of greatest pitchers in baseball history; southpaw, Fernando Valenzuela. I grew up watching him, and he had one heck of a presence about him. Plus, I always his admired his ability to pitch and help the Los Angeles Dodgers win game after game. Along with that he always represented his Latino community with honor and respect.
