Adobe recently updated Camera Raw, Lightroom and Lightroom Classic with a revamped local adjustments and masking interface. In this video, I explore their power by dodging and burning a straight out of camera raw file from start to finish.

The numerical scale idea for local adjustments is a great concept, thanks for mentioning it!

I really enjoyed the numbered value of importance scale you came up with. I’ve never deliberately looked at an image with that mindset but really like that approach. Thanks!

I love your videos. Learning every time I watch one. Also even if I didn’t learn something new I do also enjoy watching someone work through a shot. Thanks for sharing this. Cheers, Matt

Wow. Wow. I like watching others edit when they can explain the why’s along with the how’s, as you have. This was not the kind of picture I would think to take myself, but I was convinced by the end result.

Adding grain vs perception of detail: I spent 30 years doing electron microscopy in the service of semiconductor process development. In the course of advancing the very frontier of semiconductor process technology we were also also pressing electron microscopy to its limits as well. It seems counterintuitive, but a little noise in an image improves one’s perception of fine detail. I would never have believed such a claim if I hadn’t experienced it myself.

A really thoughtful approach to editing images. I was able to learn/retain what you did (and why) because of the pace - not only in your step-by-step instructions, but also in the video edits.
