Dodgy Carburetor Repairs, but the REO runs! We consider exhaust stacks...

We are back on the 59 REO Gold Comet Car Hauler project again. We finally get the truck to run well! 🤩Previously we found out that the old fuel pump was not working, so we replaced that with an electric fuel pump. Then some challenging carburetor repairs after we discovered an inaccessible blockage in the accelerator pump circuit. Out the box, forest engineering methods sorts out that problem!

nice...worked in muffler shop for 13 yrs...run square tube across and put stacks on each end..run single tube from engine to square tube...flex joint in middle..simple...works great!

Consider using two 4-inch stacks with heat shields, but avoid the chrome finish for a more subtle and refined look.

Definitely 2 stacks brother! I have this set up on 2 of my trucks. 2 stacks with one outlet. Join the two with a T from the outlet. Put a damper in the pipes to adjust the flow equally from each pipe. That way you don't have one "lazy" stack. Make them tall !

Dear Diff 👍👌👏 Very well done again (video and work). The carburettor repair was ingeniously done. Congratulations 🎉 for getting it to work. I bet that you can fix the old mechanical fuel pump also (out of my experience it's usually only the diaphragm that has deteriorated due to it's age). 2) Yes please! Definitely go with the two exhaust stacks but use only one of the pipes. But please don't make them too long/high (beware of garage/shop door heights) 😁 ;-) Please put some perforated sheet metal, wire mesh or some fancy fencing material around the stacks (at least as high as the cabin is). As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all involved.

Good to see it running. Before you start prepping and painting the cab, you might want to consider to install some LED flood lights on the cab that are pointing backwards. That is handy if you go pick something up when it is already dark. It would be a lot easier to drill holes and such for some brackets now that it is not painted yet. Stacks are cool, but not always practical with trees at remote locations and driveways.

That sounds just like the Diamond 💎 Reo I drove as a tire repair service truck. It also had a two speed on the rear end that worked occasionally, and when it went into high, I could fly !! 😊 on the carb , I've seen bb's or steel balls driven into carb holes with fingernail polish to seal it .

Those umbrella style diaphragms have a bad habit of shriveling up and letting fuel get by them over time. This is especially true now that they are putting alcohol in the fuel.

I think that when you are ready to fix the mechanical fuel pump you will find that type fuel pump has a replaceable diaphram. I have seen that same fuel pump body on some old fords I've worked on. Good luck.

With two big stacks, there will be very little pressure to hold rain flappers open at idle, and then the exhaust blows down and comes in the window. (Speaking from experience) I had to add counterweight to the flappers, but then wind would make them flap and rattle even when not running

They would look cool on the RE ! even fake ones ! You could put a 3 inch muffler before the 4 inch for the stack and a coupla frog flaps on top !

While you're gauge shopping, might want to consider a matching voltmeter. Much easier to hook up than an ammeter.

Definitely 2 4 inch stacks and yes it'll be fine, you can and should run a small muffler before the split into the 2 stacks, you don't want to burn valve in the stock head
