Dodhani to Matheran (Sunset Point ) trek : Trek near Mumbai

A beautiful, scenic unexplored trek from Dodhani village in Panvel to Sunset Point in Matheran. You will hardly find anyone on the trek route.
An unexplored trek, Dodhani village to Sunset Point in Matheran is filled with amazing views. Ddodhani village is also called as Dodhane village. It is situated at a distance of 19 kms. One can either come here by ST bus from Panvel ST stand or catch an auto from Panvel station. Auto fare is 350 for four people. It is better to take the phone number of the auto driver just incase one misses the last bus. There is a temple called Dodhaneshwar temple. The path on the right side takes you to Matheran and one from the left takes you to Dodhani waterfalls. One is surrounded by the Matheran ranges on left side and the beautiful view of Gadeshwar dam on the right side. One crosses the paddy fields after 20 minutes of trek and reaches jungle patch after 30 minutes of starting the trek. There is a seasonal stream crossing which can be slippery during monsoon. One reaches a temple with benches nearby to take rest. The temple is situated at the half-way of the trek.
There are a lot of monkeys on the way after crossing the temple. Care must be taken. The trail is very well marked and there is no chance of getting lost. The trail will lead you to the Sunset point of Matheran. There is a tea and snacks centre at Sunset point. Water and food is not available anywhere after leaving Dodhani village. One can get snacks at Sunset Point. Lunch is available at Matheran Centre. There are two trails going from Sunset Point - One goes to Louisa Point and Charolette Lake and the other one goes to Matheran Centre and Dasturi Naka. It is also a good camping ground but one must take care of the monkeys. Peb fort, Monkey point, Gadeshwar dam, Haji Malang, Chanderi caves and many more are visible from Sunset Point.
One can either descend from the same point or go to Matheran. Matheran centre is at a distance of 2 kms from Sunset Point. Walking further 2 kms will take you to Dasturi Naka. One can catch a taxi from here to reach Neral railway station.

Time taken- 2- 3 hours.
Difficulty- Easy during winter and Summer.
Endurance- Medium.

how mucu time it takes to complete?? from dodhani to matheran

From Dodhani, it takes 2-3 hours to reach Matheran (Sunset point). It is better to start the trek before 8 am as it becomes hot and tiring after 9 am.

You can try Panvel route now also if you carry enough water with you (2 litres per person) and start trekking by 7-7:30 am. You can definitely try other trekking routes to Matheran from Neral, Bhivpuri road or Karjat.
