The Department of Defense is required by regulation to protect endangered species located on its installations. We're complying with those requirements, but, it's also a good thing to do - helping preserve a species is important.

I don't understand why we are paying taxpayers money for this... Maybe I'm missing something?

Natural selection for thousand of years is that the weakest species disappear and the strongest survive. Why are we going AGAINST nature? Frogs will eat those tax payer paid butterflies.
