Dodpathri means the valley of Milk. Apart from winter Dodpathri where it fast becoming important and popular winter destination of Kashmir. However, it is primarily a summer destination with its lush green meadows, dense forests, streams, snowy mountain peaks etc. It is believed that famous Sufi saint of Kashmir Sheikh Nooruddin Wali also known as Alamdar e Kashmir, Sheikh ul Alam, Nund Reshi worshipped at this place. It is one of the most beautiful serene destinations of Kashmir.
This famous but relatively new tourist destination of Kashmir in one of the famous natural meadows of Kashmir apart from Gulmarg, yusmarg, Tosamaidan etc and is situated in Budgam district of Kashmir. It is situated at the altitude of 8,957 feet from sea level, and located at a distance of about 45 km from state summer capital Srinagar and 22 km from district headquarter Budgam. The place received heavy snowfall during the winter months and has very cold climate while its summers are very pleasant.
Dodpathri has a long bowl-shaped meadow surrounded by lush green forests of Pine and Deodar in Pirpanjal Mountain range of lesser Himalayas. A river / stream called Shaliganga flows through it and the water of this stream appears milky in colour which gives this place name Dodpathri. Road to Dodpathri from Srinagar is very beautiful and passes through Budgam ans Khansahib apart from many villages. There are many more treks from Dodpathri leading to many other untouched meadows.
This video shows Dodpathri in mid-summer in June and July and in September and also gives few glimpses of Dodpathri in winter which shows the contrasting difference during the summer and winter months. Jammu and Kashmir Tourist Development Corporation is putting serious efforts to introduce Dodpathri on the tourist map of Kashmir and India. The famous Tosamaidan lies in the west of Doodpathri. Doodhpathri is easily accessible from Srinagar in under 1 and Half Hour from car or Taxi. The routes of doodhpathri are from Srinagar to Budgam, Budgam to Khansahib and Khansahib to Doodhpathri via Raiyar total distance of about 45 km. Another route is from Srinagar Gulmarg road,the route starts from Srinagar to Magam, Magam to Beerwah and Beerwah to Arizal total distance about 50 km.
