This is the thing with Amanda, she seems to have a problem with everything! How can you ask why a story is being told about the father who happened to coach two of the greatest tennis players?

@@dblog I get what youre saying, but the point I was making was why she was questioning why a film was being made about him, it came across as disrespectful to me. He wasn't just the coach of two women, he was also their father. I for one wouldn't mind knowing more about this man, his life and the thought process behind him deciding to coach his daughters who turned out to be two world famous tennis players. That's a pretty big deal.

@@dblog that would have been a debatable comment if the William sister's father was never or rarely around. dude was 10 toes down from the first swing of their racket. He was mentioned often during their early years of playing. Even the caucasians new the sacrifices he personally went through when his daughters were the only melinated players. He took a lot of negative push back so all they had to focus on way tennis. Trust if he was just your average cheerleading parent, he would not have been mentioned at all.

Thank you! Richard Williams raised legends during the peak of the crack/cocaine eta of south central in the 80s & 90s. The amount of Vision, fearlessness, leadership, discipline & love he had to create the outcome alone deserves a story. She also knows that for a black film or story centered on us without typical tropes are hard to be greenlit & made..so the fact that Will has been pushing this hard to make sure it’s done and using himself as leverage is noble. Very strange she wouldn’t be able to see the bigger picture.

Will almost always does hit that home run. That doesn’t mean he is the best choice for the role. Why not use Idris Ilba? Why not Laman Rucker? Why not find an unknown actor with major chops? You don’t always have to go with existing stars. Why not scruff up Morris Chestnut, or use Delroy Lindo (at least for the part of elder Richard Williams). The guys who played Huggy Bear on Starsky & Hutch would have been perfect, actually, but he’s too old. They need someone if that ilk. They need someone who can be really intense. People need to think outside of the box.

@Yemyem O aaallllllllllll those broads should have a problem with "char kelly" based on their social and political stances, angela yee, angela rye as well as amanda, but the "wrong color" thing isn't her real gripe, the real gripe is about a film being made about a MAN in a heroic light, it goes against her WOMANIST agenda, destroy and or belittle all men, she should do waaaaay more research before opening her pretty lil mouth, richard williams saw a tennis match on tv one day and heard about their saleries, upon recieving this information he approached his wife to "make some tennis stars" when venus (a girl) was born he decided to train her anyway, upon trying again serena was his gift, so he trained her too, the condition of his teeth allegedly came from having to ask (make) gang members and hoodlums leave the public tennis courts so he could safely train his girls, he often got into fights and had his teeth knocked out, when they began to get attention he sat them down for a year to protect them, upon their return when venus began to take over the sport he would say publicly "venus is great, but serna will eclipse her", this man (along with his wife) spearheaded the greatest 1-2 punch in the history of tennis, richard is clearly eccentric and odd to say the least, but he literally created 2 historically epic athletes, he is akin to floyd mayweather sr, as well as dale earnheart sr., or even lavar ball.......joe jackson etc, his is a story that deserves to be told.

I love Will as an actor and philosophical guru and more. He's a legend; that being said, I think it's important to portray successful darker hued men as brilliant men when it applies. The stigma toward the beautiful darker skinned community, is disgusting and and polarizing - this would have been an excellent opportunity to broaden the narrative. Peace.

In regards to Will playing the role: It's always been my understanding Richard's complexion was a factor in the way he was viewed and treated, even if this wasn't always explicit. For me that's the only reason I would've liked to see someone of a darker complexion, at least closer to his. With that being said, I hope Will does well. The bit I've seen so far looks really good. Plus Serena and Venus are backing it. I hope the other sisters are as well. In regards to Amanda: I get they why with Will playing him, if it's the same as what I expressed. I don't agree with her at all about the movie being made. Why wouldn't it be. In a lot of ways I like her and appreciate what she has to say, but I definitely don't see eye to eye with her on many other. Especially when it comes to her stance regarding her friends and those who aren't. 😒

Let's be honest here if we are going to play that card, would Amanda Seales even be considered funny if she was not of a lighter skin tone and considered attractive by European Standards? Yvonne Orji stand-up special was actually a stand-up special and was funny. But her stand up did not get the same acclaim and she is darker skinned. She actually is not that funny. When you really analysis her stand up special on HBO it was homage to Black culture not really a stand up. She was playing trivia games and singing the black national anthem during the standup, but how many jokes did she really have?? There are plenty of other comedians that are funnier than she is but yet she got a HBO special. I do understand she has more of a witty humor, but Amanda is not a comedian. She is a political commentator in the entertainment industry and would do better sticking to that. I am not saying Amanda isn't talented but she has a light skin privilege that she refuses to address and she blankets herself in the oppression of women that don't look like her nor has the same privilege that she does. For as many inflammatory and accusatory things Amanda has said, she has yet to be canceled. Any other black woman that did not look like her would've been canceled after her false rap statement about a black male doctor on social media. Her comment about Will is for viewership, she isn't even on his caliber.

They criticized Zendaya for considering the role of Aaliyah. So why are we treating Will Smith differently in this case? Where is the consistency? Also, there are a number of other actors who would have been a great fit. There are also actors waiting for roles that fit their physical description. This could also have been a breakout film for an up-and-coming actor. It's dishonest and distracting to pretend like there aren't glaring differences between the actor and the actual father who is still alive today. Would you cast someone who looks nothing like Oprah to play her in a biopic?
