It seems like the gains from these type of filters are directly proportional to the engine displacement. large displacement engines get a significantly more out of the more free-flowing filters.

I would say (depending on the chart of where that torque was picked up) you would feel that change. The horse power increase was negligible at only around 1% or 2%. The torque however was around a 10% increase and that would definitely be noticeable.

Dyno shops need to be closing the door hoods when getting performance data. With the hood open the open element filter is able to draw its air from a open cooler source than what it would normally have if you were on the road. This open element filter doesn't use heat dams and with the hood closed the intake temperature increases around 30F, and as we know hot air is less dense air.
@RobertMacCready
@RobertMacCready 6 жыл бұрын
Couple of things... the hood was open for ALL the pulls, both before and after so both filters enjoyed any advantage. Secondly, we bought the filter, paid for the dyno, so we were beholding to no one. My instructions to the guy doing the dyno ( he does over 500 pulls a year) was to show me the difference in the stock filter and the performance one. Also the owner of the shop is a very accomplished alcohol drag racer who competes on the NHRA circuit. I have total respect for his shop, the people in his shop, and their ability.
@HandicapRacer
@HandicapRacer 6 жыл бұрын
Nick Kaumans i think youre dense. while moving air temps drop. so to get an equivalent reading you open the hood to allow for fresh air since the car is not moving...just like why people will put fans infront if the cars while on the dyno. if anything the dyno shows less hp than real world. but youre little cave you live in probably damaged all your brain cells to understand that.

@Hey_Blinkin
@Hey_Blinkin 3 жыл бұрын
@@Wisperride do you own one? Have you done the swap? I was of the same mind frame you are before I did mine. Again, I can't speak to numbers, but it gets into boost much quicker than it did with the stock OEM filter. And the above video shows a change, so to say it's BS isn't accurate. @@watchthisusa what? It's both. Multiple data sheets all over the internet including this one (which I suspect may be high, but also wouldn't surprise me if it isn't.). Can you post data for both "stock" pulls and both "new filter" pulls? The reason I'm asking is because it sounds like your second "new filter" pull was done in 4th gear rather than fifth, like the other pulls. That may explain why your torque numbers seemed to gain so much.

I'm sure the information is right. My issue with the data is that they did very different runs with and without the new air filter so actually saying if it helped or not is impossible. it doesn't make a noticeable difference in terms of top speed, but it makes the car accelerate easier on lower rpms. If you have new vehicle with a fast shifting automatic transmission, you won't see huge improvements on your acceleration times. But if you have an older vehicle with 4, 5 or 6 speed slow shifting torque convertor automatic, than you can have some noticeable gains thanks to increased torque and power on lower rpms.
