I have had my Boost Fin of 2 years. I had the problem as you mentioned of the fin being fouled by sea grass, which is a problem where I like to surf. I finally solved it by taking a piece of fiberglass window screen and wrapping it around the sides of the fin. There was no way to stitch it to the fin, however by gathering up the narrower circumference end with thread until it was tight, the screening stays in place. Now almost no sea grass makes it in the fin while before it fouled so solidly and quickly. As you also mentioned the cap for the charging port is flimsy and mine was lost long ago. So I have been using small pieces of Mack's silicone putty earplugs pressed into the port and secured with strips of waterproof first aid tape. I also first insert a small round piece of paper in the port to keep the silicone from getting in the hole for the plug. Works just fine. Last tip, make sure the screws on the wrist remote are really tight. Mine apparently were not and killed the remote. However Boost quickly sent me a replacement for free.

Thanks for this review. As a mountain biker who despises e-bikes on the trails, this was relatable for me to see the other side. My immediate reaction was "This looks cool...it removes my biggest hurdle to try surfing again, which is conditioning." I imagine that's what e-bikers think. For those who are experienced, these bring a bunch of inexperienced people into the area, reducing the overall fun and making it more dangerous. The place where these devices shine is helping injured/disabled/elderly enjoy the sports again, and it is too bad it can't be limited to that. In the end, I don't think I would use the surf fin motor because it would be robbing me of the accomplishment and experience.

Funny, I actually have an ebike for the same reason I tried this fin. I started mountain biking back in the early 90's (when we though two inches of fork travel was nuts). I got coccidioidomycosis six years ago (better known as valley fever), it took around 30% of my lung capacity. After I went into remission I got a lower power mid-drive to get back on the trails with the guys. Through a lot of hard work I got back to the point of riding non-ebikes, but still break it out from time to time. I do agree with you though, the ebike thing has gotten out of control. I work in parks and the amount of damage we're seeing cause by the higher power bikes (I'd more call them motorcycles) is becoming a major issue.
