At the end of the day, the majority of people who buy iPhones don't really care. As long as they can text, watch KZbin, and scroll through Twitter, the phone does everything they need. If you tell the average person with an iPhone that your phone has an IP68 rating along with a 2k curved AMOLED display and they're missing out, they not only don't know what that means but also don't care. Going along with what Joe said however, I agree. Apple hasn't released anything spectacular for quite some time. There was a time when Apple truly made the best products for tech heads, but those days seem to be over. They've become more of a business than a tech company in my opinion.

IP67 technically and I think that was a smart move from Apple. Of all the features that Samsung boasts, this one is the most practical in my opinion. Hopefully all smartphone manufacturers will take note of this in the future. However, my original point is not that Apple doesn't have technical specs like this, but the average iPhone user doesnt really care about them. For example, the iPhone 7 plus will have their A10 chip, 3gb of RAM, 2 12mp cameras in the rear, 7mp shooter in the front with an LCD retina screen with a resolution of 1920x1080, all packed into a sleek form factor that also has an Ingress Protection rating of 67. For the vast majority of iPhone users this will translate into "It looks good, it's fast, the camera is good, it's waterproof and it has iMessage". This is by no means me taking a shot at Apple or anyone who owns an iPhone. I just understand that I'm a fucking geek who wastes his time reading articles on smartphones all day. For me to assume that everyone knows this (and wants to know this for that matter) would be incredibly dumb on my part.
@dolebiscuit

You're spot on. Basically, the only reason Apple is profitable is because they market their products to people who are too stupid to do research on specs and performance, and too shortsighted to see that every new iPhone is the bare minimum of an upgrade required to get stupid people to buy their newest models. The same shit goes for their Macs. If you ask online for a professional level rig to do anything from photo editing to sound design, you'll always catch at least one guy saying, "Get a Mac". Why? Why the hell would you spend more money for an inferior product? Honestly, I bet Apple could literally throw the same hardware that is in the iPhone 6 into the iPhone 7, list the specs honestly, and their key demographic would still buy it for full price without question. People are just that dumb. Apple has a successful business model, but man, are they fucking scummy about it.

Hey Dumbass have u seen the speedtest the 6s out performs all newest flagships and it's a year old all android phones are like this because of the software and hardware not being seemliest melded together. Its pretty obvious there are phones with 6 gigs of ram and it still doesn't compare to apples 2 gigs. Yes there are cool features about android that I like but I will stick with my jail broken reliable and still insanely fast iPhone. And mine doesn't explode btw😂😂

apple phones are also a lot more expensive just because you pay for the "premium" part of it. That's how they have made their company to seem like. But it's pretty bullshit. Samsung phones are better in almost every way, yet Iphones are more expensive. Just because it's an apple pruduct. But yes, Iphones do look clean and they have a great feel to them; the "premium" feel. That's way so many are hooked on to them.

While I do like Iphones, I hate the personality of how some developers completely favor IPhone over Android or Windows Phone. I think a great example of this is Snapchat. (Ive tested this myself, with an IPhone 5S and a Galaxy S5) The IOS version has the ability to do Fast and Slow motion, and autofocusing within the app itself, and the picture quality is a billion times better too. Once people started finding this out, there was a rumor going around that the CEO personally hated Android and windows phone, although I cant seem to find a source on that, but it was mentioned in a whole bunch of threads taling about it on Reddit. I also heard about some guy getting sued for making a Windows Phone app (3rd party snapchat viewer).

they didn't take the headphone jack out because it was cool but because they can sell lightning port certifications to 3rd party vendors + because there is no analog gap. they can include some DRM in the certification so you cannot pirate any music from itunes through some old analog headphone jack. that is the truth behind the removal of the 3,5mm headphone jack. over all it is a pretty smart business decision but it is purely a buiseness decision because customers get absolutely NOTHING out of it. so you could say that apple now definately stopped caring about their customers and focusses purely on money.

But it really doesnt need anything super innovative. Just dont remove the headphone jack :D

The only thing I don't agree with is that their performance for the iphone, ipad, ipod, apple watch, macbook/ imac, isnt up to the standard, and that they completely ignore peoples strong wishes, such as touch screen macbooks and imacs, and such Removing the headphone jack was a good idea, wireless headphones can be much easier to use, and if you want wired, you can use their connector, and if you need to charge, just use a lightning to headphone/lightning splitter, the jack was useless in most ways, eventually, we won't even miss it at all.

I completely agree with a lot of the points you were making Joe. I've never really been an Apple guy, aside from my iPod Nano that I've had for a really long time. When I started looking into smart phones a few years ago and really started looking at specs, OS, etc. it really all just screamed "stay away from Apple" to me. This comes from someone who is basically the only person I am around consistently that doesn't own an iPhone, but I'm also basically the only one that knows about technology and tries to stay in the loop in that circle. Not to say that I go and get all the new things and such, I still have an HTC One m8 so I obviously don't stay on top of owning all of it, but when I got that phone I spent days doing research and checking out basically everything about the phones that were new at the time when I got this phone because I knew I wanted to get the best at that time. Most of the people that I know use iPhones because, like you said, the UI is so much more friendly if you don't know that much about technology. Going into each new model is basically nothing and the interface changes very minimally at the same time which helps. Though, personally, my least favorite thing about Apple is that you have to go through Apple with basically everything on their products, whether it be phone, tablet or whatever. Granted, with Android, a lot of the things you're going through is Google, but Google is more widely used because it's so ubiquitous for the average consumer. Whereas Apple accounts and such are used for Apple products, I use Google products for my phone, computer and basically anything else I use that accesses the internet. The fact that, when Apple started getting really popular, they were a company built on innovation and new ideas was great for a long time. They did things with technology that most other companies probably hadn't even really began working on until Apple products started getting sold and their stocks were hitting all time highs and they started a great trend, but hearing that Apple is basically dead in the innovation and change department really kind of hurts even though I am not a fan of their products to begin with. The ideas and things they did brought a lot of good for technology. Hopefully they will get their collective together and find something new before they just kind of become a story to history about a guy in a black sweater and jeans.

I will say that 3D touch is a very impressive feature. In iOS 9 it was not a big deal, but with iOS 10 it is an integral part of the entire OS. I do agree with a lot of your other points, especially with the battery life and hardware specs. That being said, the hardware specs are an irrelevant point when comparing to Android. These are two entirely different ecosystems, and as a result, they both use their hardware differently. This was one of the primary reasons I switched from Android to an iPhone. After any update, or just over the course of even a year, my Samsung Galaxy became so slow and laggy, that I felt as though I was being ripped off with the amount of money I paid for it. In comparison, I have had my iPhone 6s for almost a year now, and it is just as fast as day one. Battery life depends highly on the user, as I have the 6s Plus, so I typically make it through a whole day just fine, unless I have a heavy day of usage.

I think the biggest thing that iPhones currently having going for them is long term usability, as in an IPhone 5s after 3 years of usage will run significantly smoother than an Android phone of the same age, assuming no rooting or jailbreaking is done to either. I agree with this video and think your points are valid, I just think that at the end of the day each platform is designed for different types of users. Currently using my first iPhone, after switching from an LG G4. Always uses android in the past

The only reason they have long term usability is because they all have very similar specs so when they do updates they don't have to leave a generation behind. However with Android (Samsung for example), since the Galaxy S7 (Octo core, 4Gb) has far superior tech to the Galaxy S5 (quad core, 2Gb) they have to leave the S5 behind and not update it anymore. (2 years difference) if they didn't leave the S5 Samsung/Android will not be advancing in tech and software. The iPhone 6S however is dual core with 2gb ram and the iPhone 5 is also dual core with 1gb ram (4 years difference)

As much as I don't care for the Apple Watch, you can't call it a dud. It's actually the best selling smartwatch out there right now. Problem is, most people don't need or want a smartwatch, so the market is relatively small, in comparison to say the smartphone market. On the topic of the smartphone market, many companies seem to "lack innovation" recently due to the over saturation of the smartphone market. There is only so many features that one can cram into a phone, it's really become the law of diminishing returns. This is affecting all brands, not just Apple. Its really just come down to slightly faster processors, pointlessly high resolution screen (who needs a 4K phone screen when the screen size is 5"?) and better cameras, that's it. The awe of the smartphone is over now that everyone has one. I remember when I got the iPhone 4 right after it came out, and it was the only time I was the coolest kid in high school, haha. It was a new and fascinating device back then and most people didn't have one. Now that everyone has a smartphone, it's lost some of it's "wow" factor.

I love this. Why? Because I also feel like Apple could do SOOOOOO much better. These are ALL very valid criticisms and criticizing a company does not mean you hate them. I find I'm the most critical of companies I really like because I want them to be doing the best they can. ?You hit the nail on the head, my friend. I was thinking of making the same video before I saw this, but you've already hit all the points.

I'm gonna have to disagree on one point. You talked about how the iPhone doesn't match up to Android phones on specs. That may be true, but I don't think that is a problem. No one who uses one of the newer iPhones would accuse it of being slow, despite the fact that Android SOCs are better on paper. Android, however, is notorious for its lag. Apple realized they could optimize their OS to use less memory and clock cycles, while still being super fast, saving huge amounts on energy consumption, and costing less to produce, creating more profit in the process. Apple has intentionally chosen not to go for higher res screens because they require more memory, more battery, more cpu, and higher costs: all without providing any noticeable improvement for screens of that size. As far as Apple is concerned, Android manufacturers can play the spec game, giving up all the profit in the process. And they are. Samsung right now is one of the only manufacturers making any money in that game. At the end of the day, Apple is a business and I expect them to make decisions at least somewhat based on making money.

Apple may not be the first to implement a feature but we can all agree that they usually do it the best. The iPhone 6s still outperforms all android flagships from this year despite being a year old. Android manufactures just try to impress you with 'high specs' and useless gimmicks (iris scanners, really?). People have such short memories was it not apple that brought us the first capacitive fingerprint scanner? Was it not apple who gave us a high pixel dense display? Apple is the most innovative phone maker there is and that is a fact in terms of hardware. What apple does the whole industry follows. FYI I am an android user since I don't like using a closed OS.

1. *It was not Apple that brought us the first capacitive fingerprint scanner. You are correct ;)* 2. When Apple gives us a high resolution, people praise. And then when we're at 1440p, it's "unnecessary". 3. Apple? Most innovative? Apple is innovative. That stopped a few years ago. *Of course you would ignore the innovative hardware like the Iris scanner, front facing OIS, Wireless Charging, Fast Charging, Curved Displays, Curved Panels, Water Resistance, need I say more?* It seems the short memory is that of yours.

"The iPhone 6s still outperforms all android flagships" Nope. Its about equal to the S7, but has worse battery, no quick or wireless charging. Or waterproofing. Or even expandable storage. Until the 7, you only got 16gb. My first phone, which cost about £20, had expandable storage.

You didn't give Apple a chance. The iPad Pro isn't just a big iPad. The iPhone 7 removal of the headphone jack didn't even affect you yet. You don't got it to have it, and they gave you a solution to listen to your music. You may say: oh what if I want to listen to music and charge? Listening to music doesn't take up a lot of battery. You don't need to charge while listening. (If I'm not wrong, up to 40 hours non-stop playback!)

I'm not an Apple fan-boy by any means, but their phones are not under-spec'd and removing the 3.5mm headphone jack is a good idea. iPhone's use lower clock speeds, less cores and less memory because their OS is optimized for the hardware. This doesn't pan out very well for multitasking but the hardware performs just fine *for what iOS let's you do*. As for the headphone jack, good-riddance. We live in a digital world, it's time for analog audio to go.
@connorPiper0
@connorPiper0 8 жыл бұрын
But sound waves are analog, there is no other way around that. You have to use a DAC no matter what. Might as well let the phone do it for consistency rather than the headphones. Plus that drives up the price of headphones.
@TheSeanUhTron
@TheSeanUhTron 8 жыл бұрын
connor Piper TV'S create analog lightwaves too, but we still call it digital TV. Let's not argue semantics though. The flaw with analog is that the signals are very sensitive to interference. The longer an analog signal has to go, the more interference it sustains. The iPhone 7 still has an integrated DAC. The lightning->3.5mm adapter is not a DAC itself, lightning can transmit analog audio. That means you can still get cheaper lightning headphones that do not have built-in DAC'S.

AGREE on every point except that the iPhone isn't the only user friendly/intuitive phone on the market anymore. It's a bad excuse to use them now with the updated offerings out there today. We just switched to the Samsung Note 5 from the iPhone this spring... and we could not be happier! We felt like we'd been missing out on major tech jumps. Felt behind the times - Apple has a HUGE gap in tech to overcome. Ohhhhh how gorgeous the Note 5's camera is too - wow (best on market). We almost waited to see what the iPhone 7 would bring, but thank GOD we didn't!!! $150 EarPods I'd lose in 2 seconds. Off to hug my Note 5. Thanks for the video!

I'm just sticking to the 5s for a while still until they do make some great changes and innovation.

Who buys a new phone every year? You only buy a new one if your old one breaks down or in a few years time when there are enough new features to make it worthwhile. I think the smartphone has peaked anyway, they are now up against the wall of smartphone innovation. What more can they add to them?
@cruztube23
@cruztube23 8 жыл бұрын
Look dude, I agree with you to some degree. Apple makes a huge deal of minor upgrades and that really is awkward. I don't know many people who buy a new iPhone every year, that's why the new iPhone 7 plus certainly is an upgrade from iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. But Apple's strength isn't in pumping their phones with features like Samsung or LG, their strength is making high quality products that last years and years, their stable and optimized software, their ecosystem (which is fantastic IMO), their Stores. It's not a surprise to me that Apple is so popular, that's why they can get away with micro improvements and people will still go crazy. They sell smartwatches that aren't on par with other competitors but their watches break all selling records, because they are popular. But, again, you have a point, people have a point when you/they say, Apple ain't trying that hard anymore... 2017 must be the year of a new wave of innovation and redesign, especially with their phones and laptops.
