FYI I have the Koh-I-Noor polycolor and the Mondeluz which is their watercolor pencils and the colors match as well, not sure if the Gioconda pastel pencils do as well but I would guess it does too. They are both very nice pencils too btw

Not everyone uses watercolor pencils this way. If using wet, with a Caran D'ache Palette Aquarell you will not have crumbs on your paper, and you would be applying just the watered color to your paper. You would not have that drag line bar. Just an idea to explore other ways to use watercolor pencils, than laying down on paper and then wetting. Great video.

When I was in the hospital, I ordered a inexpensive set of water color pencils off Amazon & they worked quite well for a lower cost set. The brand is strokes.

You can activate watercolor pencils with a refilled (reused) wink of Stella pen for glimmer.

I have both sets of arteza pencils, the water color and the regular color pencils, and I like them both. I mean, yes they aren't the same quality as my Derwent or Faber Castell, but they are great for an on the go set of pencils. I don't fear taking them out of the house and if something were to happen to one I would be ok.

As a watercolorist, I would love to see you use 100% cotton paper. It responds differently to paint than paper with wood pulp. Bee paper is 100% cotton 140lb and less expensive than Arches. Arches is my favorite though.

I find the straight Arteza colored pencils are just as water soluble as the watercolor ones. But I don't think I am going to invest in the 120 set of either no matter how badly I suffer from FSS. The binder in the water soluble pencils doesn't so much dissolve as it turns to paste and becomes slippery and leaves a streaky finish. I am in love with my Albrecht Durer by FC and the open stock thing is a real deal breaker with the Arteza. I still love their markers and paints, though! Thanks so much for doing this video! It'll be easier to use up the pencils I have doing it your way. Cheers!

Keeping a sharp point was a game changer. I just printed your swatch sheet and have been watching while I swatch and I was having so much trouble with my first colors that I thought the paper was crap(it is, but it's what I could afford for art printables sadly neenah and springhill work out too much with import costs) , but soon as you mentioned the sharp point I started rotating my pencil to keep a sharp tip and the rest of the swatches have been so much fun to do now I know the tool better

I have been using (and enjoying) the Arteza color and watercolor pencils for a couple of months for a change from my Prismas and polys. Even though most of the watercolor pencils don’t work well on good card stock as watercolor, they Do give you a lighter shade of the color in many instances which is useful. None of my Arteza have been scratchy or crumbly. So I was surprised by your tests. Maybe, it’s the difference in the paper we used. BTW, the 150 set Albert Durer can be found for about $170 which is very affordable compared ro polys. 150 Prismas have been available recently for less than $100. Back in the day, I remember saving for months to buy my first set, which were only 132 colors. PS Arteza Customer Service is superb: If you contact them about your you off center lead, I wouldn’t be surprised if they sent you a repacement or discount. 😊

You 2 are always so fun to watch. Thank you for all the work you put into this. I do have a question/suggestion for when you do the battle of the watercolor pencils. I'd love to see how they perform taking the color directly off the pencil with the paintbrush. See how concentrated the color is that way for each brand you test.

I test pencils and am an artist. I find Arteza has a base that could find them useful, But lightfastness does matter to artists. I have compared them and gotten different results. I far far prefer my Lightfast and fully pigment loaded ,Luminance, Albrecht Durer, Polychromos well over Arteza but as I mentioned students would appreciate them .

I agree that it's counter-intuitive of the lightfast ratings to be expressed in what seems like reverse order. The only explanation I can think of, and what I think when I look at my pencils (tho I don't give a hoot about lightfastness, granted), is the number of pluses equals the amount it fades. IDK lol

I suspect they did it to avoid law suits. The star system is an official rating that costs money to be considered for. Reversing the numerical values and changing to plus signs means nobody can get the two systems confused.

Can I use the watercolor set just like if they were the normal one... Like can I use them and blend them just like the normal one without using the water.... Because I bought the watercolor arteza set by mistake and I don't if I did the right thing...

Definitely prefer round pencils; the only advantage to hex is that it doesn't roll off table, etc. But I color in den w/lap board and keep my pencils in cases so they rarely have opportunity to roll off. Round for sure!

I have severe depression and fibro and anxiety issues to the point of having to go on disability. I try to get pics drawn and I want a KZbin channel up. i know you been through lots of health issues. I’m thinking of getting a set of color pencils an coloring books. Should I get irojiten they have such beautiful colors I’ve seen they have 90 color. Or arteza wondering how balanced their colors are in irojiten color set is.

I would produce hexagon pencils. They wouldn't roll, so fewer broken cores & from working in production for 35 years, they would use less wood (lower production cost) & they would be more reliable for centering cores (higher quality).

I find that I enjoy Ateza colored pencils more if I blend them with gamsol and a small paintbrush or blending stumps.

SMC Baby Oil works too! Only takes a very small amount. When my 8 yr old granddaughter colors with me, that’s what we use. I have gamsol too, both work great!

Ok, I know I missedc the live stream but I have been catching up on your awesome video's. i have a questions about these new swatch pages, I have noticed even on your website that these new pages are for basically for Arteza, Prismacolor and Polychromo. Is there these sheets with no name so we can make our own with different colored pencils ex. I have Feela 152 ct. & Crayola 50 ct & 100 ct. along with my Marco Raffine i do have a few small sets of Prisma (standard 24 set 2x and skin ton set 2x) love them still trying to figure them out these would surely would help I love swatch sheets, love making combos etc

PS You could make your own tri-tone and swatch pages by making a 2nd set of Bliss pages. White out the color numbers, etc and the use the white- out page as a master to make your own additional pages for your pencils. 🤗

Thanks for thia video they are always helpful and enjoyable. If I were ro create a colored pencil I think Id make it in a triangular shape. For me personally they feel the best and also dont roll so best of both worlds. Also in regards to pronouncing Arteza I pronounce it as Are-Tee-zuh. But doesn't mean Im correct. Have a great day!

I would not advise pencils with a round cross-section as they roll off the desk - disaster - this will shatter the pencil core. Try sharpening a pencil after it has been dropped onto a hard surface - expensive when working with artist grade tools. Use pencils with a hexagonal cross section instead. This is the reason that good quality pencils are manufactured in this way. The Derwent Pencil Buddy is useful when using a handful of pencils at one time - it will handle 36 pencils easily. It has a slightly angled plastic box with vertical brush bristles that the pencils are pushed into. A very safe, secure tool, but a bit expensive, priced at £59.99 from Amazon here in the UK. However, it is robust and seems to have been made to last forever. I do not know if it is available internationally. I hope this comment helps. GLYN in Stafford, England.

I think you need a new video on these pencils. Apparently they are randomly dissolving with water and other medium (including fixative) Apparently, Arteza has known about this problem for over 8 months...and has done NOTHING ABOUT IT. People are literally fuming and many pieces of artwork has been destroyed. Thank you...
