Update on my experience with Blue Devil rear main seal use on my car. As other people have said, I used the whole bottle and not much happened for like the first month or so... Then I had to take a small trip of over 100 miles, driving at speeds of over 70-80 miles per hour. I got to my destination and sure enough, a big spot/leak on the ground. My car had sat for a few days while I was visiting family. Before leaving I checked my motor oil and I was down about 1/3 of a quart. I topped off the oil and drove back home over 100 miles. Once home the car sat for a day. I checked my oil before driving my car to work and the oil and transmission fluid was full. I’ve parked my car where one would notice any leaks and presto! Blue Devil has resealed my rear main seal. I know this is temporary but, it gives me time to shop around for a great mechanic... This is my story. My previous post was not positive but, it seems to have finally worked on my car... good luck with your use of this product!

It's been a few years, how'd it turn out? My rear main seal (07 Ram 5.7) failed on a small road trip of 85 miles, and I was down 2 quarts of oil by the time we got of the highway. The crankcase was topped off before we left home. There were no obvious signs that it was building up to an all out fail. I grabbed a bottle of the Blue Devil rear main sealer (very skeptical, but kind of desperate) at Autozone and 2 quarts (Mobil 1 synthetic 5-20; that's what I already had in there....$$) poured it in and hopped on the highway. It seemed to thin the oil out at first, and was leaking like a sieve! I smoked out the entire expressway behind me and had to get off at the next exit. The exhaust was covered; the leak actually coated parts of the muffler along with the rest of the underbody. There was a steady stream of oil coming from the engine while idling, so I decided not to chance it and have it towed home while we enjoyed our visit for a couple days. Two days later (today), I get home to promptly check on the truck, and the oil level was the same as it was when I parked it to be towed (down 1 qt), so I ran it for about 10 minutes. I lost approximately, 1/2 C of oil and then the leak seemed to slow big time. I shut it off, topped of the crankcase with a quart of Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer, then jacked up the front end to clean all of the frame drip and get a better visual of the source (I already "knew" it was coming from between the bell-housing and the block, but had to be sure it wasn't a head. There was no oil in the coolant that I could tell). I ran the engine for 30+ minutes while watching it like a madman from every angle and not only was it not leaking full stream like a sieve, it wasn't even collecting droplets of oil at the seam. No leak at all. *Side note: Prior to this, the area was always a little wet but never seemed to leak in the driveway. I would go through a quart per 6-10 weeks. I lowered the truck while running, cycled the engine as if I was driving, then idled at 2500 rpm at 5 second intervals... There was now, the usual amount of oil collected at the weep-hole, before the eventful blow-out. I let it run for a few more minutes and shut it off. No drops on the ground. It seems to have DRASTICALLY reduced the leak. I'm truly amazed, but it's still the first day and I'm concerned that the initial intensity of the leak could spring on me while driving. I haven't driven it yet, so I'll try to update this post after a couple of hopeful & anxious days.

@@farrahlainek9178 My rear main seal was way too far gone- The product absolutely impressed me, because it stopped the leak (at idle) for a couple days. But when I took the truck on the road (within a week of blowout incident) and gave it a little hell, it breached right open and was leaking like a sieve, once again. Fyi, I was on a dirt road, didn't go faster than 40 mph, and I did not get far. Truck in shop as we speak. Blue Devil, IMO, should be added when only a slow drip is present.

Did it work for transmission leak as well?
@youandiryan Жыл бұрын
This stuff is absolutely awesome to tie you over until the problem can be fixed. They say it's a permanent fix but I say it's just a Band-Aid until you have the money or the time to repair properly. I had a small leak in my accord, right around the observation port area in my vehicle, It's a six-speed manual, so there is an observation port where you can pop the lid, and you can physically see inside where the clutch is and you can see the rear main seal. Mine was leaking. But I am working this week and I just do not have the time to do it until next week. Because it requires a transmission pull. I'm more than capable to do it it would probably take me a day. But like I said I just don't have the time this week. Anyways I put this stuff in my vehicle just a very small amount, not what the bottle said. But I put a smaller amount in. And drove for about 100 km on the highway. And sure enough it worked absolutely beautifully. I have no more leaks. But like I said to me this is a Band-Aid because I'm a car guy and I will properly fix it. Highly recommend this stuff

Those T5 volvo motors are notorious for getting clogged pcv breather valves which cause crankcase pressure, that pressure will force oil out of the motor. Try changing your pcv breather valve as well. I think it’s underneath the intake. Maybe you’ll get the leak to stop, cheaper than a rear seal repair. Cheers

Okay so the comments suggest that it eventually catches most of the leaking. But my question is, what are the negatives for using it with the rest of the engine oil? There are ALOT of small orfaces and lines and pumps and such that the oil must flow through. So does (by it's very nature of sealing) it effect anything else with the engine?

Youre likely looking at a clogged PCV system on those turbo Volvo engines. Put a rubber glove around the oil fill port with the cap off and see if it inflates when the engine is running. If it does you need to service the crankcase ventilation. Itll pop cam seals, main seals, and cause you to consume oil. Once you fix that, then run that sealer through and youll be golden

I've not been able to see if product actually works due to low oil pressure issues appearing after first 50 miles on my '03 Acura 3.2 V-6. Which it's NEVER had. Blue Devil claiming it doesn't affect oil pressure seems suspect since the issue is fairly common. Strangely didn't appear on my car for first 50 miles, or when cold. Blue Devil support suggests my thought which is try a fresh filter to hopefully improve flow, even if it is only halfway to change interval. They did say the product can dislodge buildup which could lodge in filter. Worth a shot. They claim even though the 8 oz bottle treats 8 qt capacity engines that it's fine to put full 8 oz in smaller engines w/lower 4 qt capacity like mine? It stands to reason if your car is in vicinity of 1/2 the 8 qts it'll treat, I'd highly advise not putting full bottle but instead say 1/2 to 2/3 of it. It may save headache I'm dealing with. If filter doesn't solve it I'll have to drain a full sump of synthetic only halfway to change interval & will do an Amazon exchange to try again not full bottle. I've only been able to drive say 80 miles & not gotten full benefit due to these pressure issues. Comment here so I see in notifications if you'd like an update.

But today after 140mile of driving, I noticed that my car lost quite a lot of oil. Not to a point that triggers the low oil warning light but it’s definitely quite a lot. Based on your experience with this product, do you think it can slow down my oil leak? I heard that the way VW/Audi rms fails is the sealant of the rms broke apart. I don’t know if blue devil fixes this type of rms failure. Please let me know.

I'm about to buy a 2011 Mercedes E350 Bluetec and I've read that Rear Main Seal replacement and Oil cooler gasket are the two most common major failures. I'm wondering what you would think of using a leak stop like this as a preventative for a car that has been know to have a bad gasket. Do you think it might prevent a problem, or might cause a problem? Should I just wait and "don't fix it if it ain't broken"?

Here's what I would do: I would leave it alone. If it's not leaking, don't mess with it. Since you know of the issue, try and be financially prepared should your car develop the issue. And if it does, PLEASE go to the dealer and not some guy who "thinks" he can work on your Mercedes. Hope this helps

been using this on my 96 rav4 since 2015 because the rear main seal started leaking 2wks after i bought it and it significantly slows leaks after driving around for a wk or so way better than putting a quart in every day or two, my engine barely holds any oil already and burns the hell out of it so this stuff is great adv auto is the cheapest auto zone just ripped me off on like 18 dollars instead of around 11 or 12 and i see sales on it occasionally 5 months to a year in it'll start leaking more depending on amount of use i just dump another bottle in and go

@@BuildYourOwn Still monitoring it, I think it has definately slowed it, still leaking a bit but then I'm not sure if I've driven it 200 miles yet. But it seems to be a little better so far! I will try to update in a few more weeks.

Gummed up my entire oil pump intake enough to inhibit oil pump from working ,as in zero oil pressure. Spent 5 hours pulling pan to clean oil pump etc . This product would have ruined my engine if I let it ...do not use blue devil...

was your oil new or dirty? was your motor high mileage?

Probably because of gummed up crummy oil deposits to begin with lack of maintenance, but that's something I might have to try first is to mix oil with this stuff and Agitated it and see If the consistency of the oil changes to a thicker substance
