Very interesting duel and well done to both competitors. I wonder how a "tall" strategy would have fared here - i.e. only expand a little bit at the very start, let's say just for the first 10 minutes, and then reduce expenses as much as possible and sit back on speed 5 while developing provinces for the remaining 50 minutes, trying to get a lot of month ticks with a moderate income instead of surging at the end. I guess it depends a lot on the network connection with the observers though - even a 2-player multiplayer game can't always handle speed 5.

In past duels, players have tried to go 5 speed only for the game to slow them down immediately, so they’d have to go 4 speed

It might work if you manage to get the gold provinces asap, dev them up to the skies and pray for good rng on gold mine depletion and the gold rush event.

I tried to do this challenge on my own for the hell of it with Yatenga, the nation they passed on… with a stable connection and no lag I was only able to get to 2800 on my first try, but a second attempt got me up to 4500 (got verrrry lucky w Mali RNG)
