I have a compost pile in my yard. I haven’t turned it this year. Now I’m scared too! However, I encountered 5 baby copperheads in my flower beds that are against the front of my house. I was cleaning up foliage and picked up a baby in my hand. Talk about peeing your britches!!! I keep a long handle spade shovel very close when I’m out cleaning my beds now. I also try to not leave dead foliage anymore for that reason. I tackle it late in the fall or very early in the year to detour those darn snakes from taking shelter.

😅😂🤣 I’m with you. No snakes please ! Around me, if they show themselves, they’re dead. I will identify them later lol. Sorry if that hurts you, not sorry

Why would you want to keep snakes out of your compost heap exactly? They eat all the brown rats and mice

Fair enough. I hate copperheads.

I also found a snake in my compost bin that's why I stopped and started using synthetic fertilizer

Now that’s what I call a simple solution to a seemingly complicated problem.
