Dana cares about one thing and one thing only, $$$$$$$$$$

Merab vs omalley was a solid fight.

I love Colby fights and he never KOs or submits people. But his constant pressure, striking, takedowns, more pressure, etc. is awesome. I hate watching guys dance around the perimeter looking for a huge strike.

100% agree with you here. Ive been asking the last couple of years; is this supposed to be spectacle, or sport? The rhetoric Dana has used post fights like Sean Vs. Merab, as well as some selective matchmaking really looks like they want to be more spectacle then sport. When you start leaning in that direction, you're starting to deviate from the core questions we are trying to answer; Who is the best fighter on the planet, and what is the most effective style?

Dana is just butt-hurt that his boy O'Malley lost. He was really hoping he'd be the next McGregor level star
@thomaspace77922 ай бұрын
You are 100% correct. He told my friends BJJ instructor who used to fight that “we really only want to see striking”

Dana only pretends to understand grappling

He wants to build O'Malley into McGregor and lost. So he's just mad because merab won't sell well.

wrestling and bjj doesnt sell to keep the company in business has to be 80%+ striking

I think a big part of MMA popularity is the UFC’s ability to market and promote! I think when you look at BKFC or similar you are seeing this exact thing
@Ruthless-16992 ай бұрын
It's popular because it's real fighting. Nothing more nothing less. Fighting is in our DNA Plain an simple

Merab mauling O’Malley was a good fight. Easily a 8.5/10, with lots of action and an obvious winner. Dana’s mysterious black spots on the brain have confused him, and he thinks O’Malley is popular.

I think Dana was thinking long term loss with Merab winning. He’s not as marketable as Suga. Suga as champion is 💰 💴. Merab is just another wrestler humping his opponent for 25 min.

MMA grappling is boring. I can watch wrestling only or high level BJJ (olyimpic or world matches) but in MMA its slow cause no stalling calls

Yes, Dana is boxing/striking biased....Dana is a dyed in the wool boxing enthusiast since his youth (study his bio, he even dabbled in it in various ways), but this is probably because that was the mainstream martial art in 1970's-1990's, his formative years. Boxing was part of the US culture--everyone sitting down to watch Ali, Sugar Ray, Mike Tyson.... But Dana is developing and appreciating some of the BJJ (and I think he and the Fertitta brothers messed around with it early on) so he likes a slick submission. But he is not a wrestling connoisseur at all imho. Part of Dana's dilemma is wrestling is effective as hell in MMA (from early UFC ground and pound guys , through Khabib and Ben to last week)... and I think Dana fears he loses entertainment value (he is a promoter/entertainer foremost) for the casual fan that wants to see a standing rock-em sock-em robot fight with too much wrestling.... But--FUN IRONY--the absolutely most entertaining rockem sock em fighters might be DI wrestlers no one can take down (or rarely) that love to strike... exemplified by Justin Gaethje or even somewhat a Chandler or Covington (though the latter two will take you down).

It is pretty obvious Dana doesn't like wrestlers. Most of the high level wrestlers are now stuck fighting in the PFL or the last remnants of Bellator. Kinding hoping Dana retires and someone else takes over the company.

A "solution" could be as simple as a rule change on the ground. Maybe something like international wrestling where you get a set amount of time to make "something" happen when it goes to the ground. If not, the ref breaks the fight and you go to feet again. I would agree w/ Dana that fights that spend the majority of time on the ground are objectively boring. It is a ton of technique and patience, but it just isn't interesting to watch and that is why it is on TV/PPV at the end of the day. If floor battles were interesting, BJJ would be mainstream TV, but its not.
