Life did not allow me to invest time in b-roll and effects, and I can't sit on this video any longer. So, I hope you enjoy this cut version! I might re-make this if it's not getting the views it deserves.

@@geek_peek Everything, man. The writing, the combat, the characters. Everything I look for in an RPG was awful. The one positive thing I can say about it is that the people in charge of optimisation, graphics settings, etc, fucking cooked.

I'll be honest, I haven't played it. But I don't think Bioware deserves money for it from what I have seen and anyone who likes it has never succeeded in convincing me otherwise. It is easily their worst game, and thats saying something considering Andromeda exists. The Bioware that gave us ME trilogy and DAO are long gone.

It will be hard to convince someone that a game is good when they form their opinion on it without playing. Don't you agree? I understand why you might believe what you do, but I also encourage you to try to get the game during a sale and form your own opinion on it. For now, I can only say that I disagree with your assessment that DAV is Bioware's worst game. That title still belongs to Anthem.

@geek_peek But why should someone play the game if they can tell from obvious evidence that it's crap? That would involve buying the game, thus rewarding Bioware for providing slop and hence they don't learn their lesson. The gameplay isn't dragon age, just some generic action RPG combat. The writing which is supposed to be what Bioware games are all about and it is fucking atrocious. As Skill Ups review put it, its like having HR in the room at all times. The art style and tone all comes across as very childish in a series that's supposed to be dark fantasy. The characters are all one dimensional as fuck, and only serve the purpose of ticking off diversity quotas. It will be hard to convince someone that a game is good when they form their opinion on it after viewing hours of evidence that shows how much of a waste of time and money it is. Biowares dead, this was their last chance. At this rate I don't even want a Mass Effect 4 because they'll just ruin a perfect trilogy.

@@geek_peek I''ll weigh in. The barest minimum criteria for me were not met in being an rpg in that all rooks play like the same rook, Dialogue choices all result in basically the same flavour of responses. The reactions of companions are kind of meaningless when we're not allowed to interact with them meaningfully.. and a poor shade of the old choices in things like kotor, mass effect and older dragon age titles. As a MC, Rook does not even remote compare to Hawke who i did not think was even a very good MC. But they did have various flavours in being sarcastic/humorous and hostile and goody-good that influenced the story and companions. The less popular answer is: I was neutral to disliking all of the companions with the exception of Emmrich Volkarin, who actually gets treated rather badly and thoughtlessly. The development time is not clearly on display. If all of the game had played with the goodness as the final act it might've won over the haters... but it's too little, far too late, the gameplay to get there is a BURDEN, not fun. I don't think they engaged with or started with a good script, the characters weren't good enough and the gameplay should have been better. I wager a lot of people just stopped playing out of boredom around the time of the hydra fight.

@@geek_peek The writing was terrible, even with the main storyline when Bioware is known for great writing and has been for the last three games. Unfortunately, I thought I could write it better and I'm not a professional writer. There was nothing really great in this game other than the graphics, nobody pays full price for the game just for the graphics.

The value or appeal of writing is subjective. (I know this as a writer myself.) What did you dislike about the writing? I found the writing reflective of modern human relationships. Some of the companions and even Rook themself are very relatable to me. Some Dragon Age players look for unique characters and pathos. Like in Origins, you had Oghren, who was very "dwarven," and Wynne, who was very "magi." You loved those characters because they had interesting personalities, but you could never relate to them. Is the lack of this pathos what was missing for you in Veilguard?

@geek_peek personally I found the writing super heavy handed. They kept repeating stuff and over-explaining things so it felt like it was aimed at kids rather than adults that can connect the dots. I often also found Rook irritating, like at the early game when one of your companions gets injured and Rook asked them repeatedly if they were ok/sure they wanted to come with you - I wanted to tell Rook to shut up and drop it by the end of that segment lol. Neve said she was fine, pushing it over and over just felt like you were being patronising instead of being genuinely concerned to me. There were a lot of moments like that with both Rook and other characters. The lack of actual choice in how you responded to your companions also made it feel hollow. First impression of Taash for example - she was rude and obnoxious to you and I was put off by that but Rook was all "she's amazing, just what we need" with no possible alternatives. By that point I'd already killed the strongest dragons in the game without Taash so I also didn't feel I needed her based on that flimsy reason either lol

Does Dragon Age: The Veilguard Deserve All The Hate? No, coz you just cannot hate this crap enough. Its bad RPG, bad game and abominaton of a Dragon Age frenchise. Even difficulty levels are laughable - you can literally sleep on highest and still beat the game. Its was made by the ppl that dont know how to make games for ppl that dont know how to play games.
