Does Dragongate Have a Unit Problem?

I'm moving this to the Outdated/Archives playlist because in the span of only a few months, they've fixed almost all of these issues! New veteran unit (Paradox), Z-Brats are the biggest unit again, they're giving more independents something to do, and the lineups have changed quite a bit - as well as some unfortunate rookie retirements. The only problem they haven't fixed is the loss post issue, but that's a bit less glaring now.

I think they should do a thing like STARDOM did and do a draft for some non affiliated members of the roster like YAMATO, Dragon Kid etc to shake up the units with maybe a few types of matches to get a new member like they did with Jason Lee

Great video as always, Guts. 2023 was cursed for sure but I just wish that they kept the momentum that had been built with Shun vs Diamanté. I understand Mante wanted to go home and that was fine but in my opinion, the second half of 2023 was a missed opportunity. I agree with you that we need less units with more members to allow for that rivalry to be built up. The unit structure was one of the big draws to DG for myself and soemthing I hope we can get back to with the ongoing Z-Brats vs Natural Vibes feud

Mante was also recovering during that time, after reaggravating his injury. I believe it was the spot where Shun pulled him down off the cage, and he landed his already bad arm onto the ropes.

Great content, I don't understand why they are so scared to use the old guys. They could add a lot and some of them could even take a lot of pins and be more than fine, like Punch or Fuji. And with the wins YAMATO kept getting on Kota, adding him in Gold Class in a "coach" role could have been interesting.

I always saw Kota as very similar to YAMATO and assumed he'd end up in Gold Class whether leading in the absence of Doi or as a member

something DG and Stardom kinda shared was as you said INJURIES causing problems for all storylines; Stardom has the same problem you're kinda pointing out, more of they REFUSE to shuffle up anything because "if it ain't broke don't fix it" hopefully that fixes itself soon; i agree with what ya said that the Top Babyface unit having the increased numbers compared to everyone else is kinda "what"... it does feel odd we have so many unaff's at the moment; and especially after what happened just this morning it makes me wonder where everything is going for the units or if we'll see 1-2 more units crumble and a unit or 2 forming in their place

Jason definitely changes things up a bit, and at least Z-Brats are now the biggest unit. I think U-T probably sticks with Kzy but I can see everyone else separating.

Update: Jason's turn does put Z-Brats back on top for members, but like I said, it doesn't change the numbers much. It'll still be back down to 5 whenever Valletta leaves.

Looks like they listened to me about a Veteran unit! As of the April 10 Korakuen show, YAMATO has proposed a new unit to Susumu, Doi, and Dragon Kid.

I kinda hope that z-brats get rebranded again like before with red, antias and verserk but idk what's gonna happen to cause that change

The thing is, usually they end up kicking out their leaders and reforming under a new heel. But you can't really turn Shun face again at this point. He's done too much evil. I think the only way they could redeem him is to unmask and drastically change his character.

Z-Brats being such a small team seems to be half of the issue. We missed out on a RED civil war when EITA was ousted. Considering how many former RED team members are still without a unit, do we pull the trigger on a veteran heel unit? There's plenty of options but the current stables seem a bit lacklustre. I've always said you can judge a decent period in DG by how strong the heel unit is.

Uuuugh I SO wish they pulled the trigger on the "Real RED" thing they had going for about a month. Eita, Ishida, and Maria was a great core group. Add Perros to that and it would be a solid unit war.

Love fantasy unit booking. Let's Say Natural Vibes ends and the members go each their separate ways and is replaced with the Big Hug and maybe some new unit for Strong Machine J to lead that isn't the Strong Machines unit. Z-BRATS: Skywalker, KAI, ISHIN, Kato, Valetta - New Members = Kondo, Yoshida GOLD CLASS: Minoura, Ben-K, Hulk, Minorita - New Members = Doi, T.N.R D'COURAGE: Kikuta, Yoshioka, Dia, Tanaka - New Members = Mochizuki, DK, Susumu BIG HUG: HYO, Diamante - New Members = Kamei, Jason NEW UNIT: SMJ, Shimizu, YAMATO, Fuda, Kagetora I don't know where Kzy would fit in, I thought about having him join Z-Brats but feels like it would sort of be a step down of going from leading Vibes to maybe not being the focus points of Z-Brats. Maybe a sort of not-quite team veteran dynamic unit for him to lead (Kzy, Horiguchi, Punch, Mondai, Kanda, Eita) but then I feel like we'd end up with too many units.

Based on nothing but his presentation on Prime Zone Plus, I would like to see Daiki join Gold Class. Shimizu is my dream Gold Class member though - he can still dance, he'd just be fancier. Plus it would put Big Ben back together.

IDK why don't what they did for Mad Blankey when it was in a similar situation and have some vets temporarly join Z Brats for a bit like that can be really fun and give the vets a chance to have fun and portray some new characters for a bit. Also, this may or may not get worse in a few months when Natural Vibes probably disbands after their current Z Brats feud so that's something to look forward to. I think the main problem here is that DG is trying to do something new by having quality over quantity with their units but it's just not really working. Also, just some random thoughts, Susumu and Kanda should've joined Big Hug after their title feuds with them adding those two would've really helped Big Hug after their first feud as a unit, Ichikawa should've joined Gold Class he literally already has Gold Gear and would work wear with the weird group dynamic they have and it would've been funny. Also please for the love of god have U-T join Z Brats my boy really needs something new after years of not much. Sorry for the long post.

A Vibes split would shake things up for sure. I just don't know what happens to Kzy at that point, unless losing the unit is finally the catalyst for a Dream Gate run.

@gutsdozer Yeah, KZY is the one I'm most worried about in a post-Natural Vibes split world out of the current members he is the one where I can see DG just having him be another vet who sometimes challenges for the Dream Gate and never gets it.

@@St3w0n Is it time for a heel unit led by KZY again ? After Deep Drunkers being a **** show there's plenty of options for Mondai Ryu, Punch, Yoshida to add to a heel unit without overshadowing KZY as leader. He could easily kick off when Vibes disbands and call them all ungrateful after being the only unit to reform after the Gen war. I just hope they don't add him to Z-Brats as another fall guy
