Does God Make Us with Flaws?

Fr. Mike answers that God does not make us with flaws, but we are all born with the unfortunate effects of original sin. We were all made in the image and likeness of God, but if we feel like some sinful behavior has been a part of us for as long as we can remember, that part doesn’t come from God. It comes from our fallen nature. Whether or not we were “born that way”, God still wants to make us holy and wipe away even the most deep-seated blemishes.
God loves us just as we are, but loves us too much to keep us that way. Admit it, acknowledge it, accept it, but don’t stop there. Allow God to transform it into something that can give him glory.
God’s perfect will vs. God’s permissive will video - • Why Does God Let Bad T...
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:.13).

I believe this is one of the reasons God created the experience of parenthood in this life. It allows us to experience a portion of His heart. We love our children just as they are with all our hearts, but we absolutely do not accept or condone a lot of their behaviors and we work to help them grow and become better people.
@tomandrews1429
@tomandrews1429 5 жыл бұрын
As a parent though, would you ever allow your children to be born with some sort of defect? If you had the power, wouldn't you step in to at least give them a perfect starting point? What the child does later is their own choice, but I would at least ensure that they're not punished for something they never did.
@firstnamelastname1823
@firstnamelastname1823 5 жыл бұрын
@@tomandrews1429 I would say that God did create us without defect. It was man's own rebelliousness that brought suffering and defectiveness into the world. Every action we take has consequences not just for ourselves, but for others. It's sad, but it's reality. But God loves us in spite of our rebellious nature, and paved the way to undo what has been done: "Since by man came death, by man [Christ] came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." (1 Corinthians 15:21-22)

@@firstnamelastname1823 Ok, but why doesn't God step in a fix the problems caused by original sin? The mechanism for why original sin causes bad things for us now like cancer and mental illness is a little supernatural anyway, so it wouldn't be impeding on anyone's free will to fix problems like that.
@firstnamelastname1823

@@tomandrews1429 I'm not going to pretend to know all of God's motivations, but I will say this: it was my struggle to overcome cancer that brought me to faith. It was in the premature birth of my son at 18 weeks into my pregnancy that turned so many of my friend's and family members' hearts about abortion - seeing his 10 perfect fingers and 10 perfect toes, and my husband's chin and nose already so early in the pregnancy made them realize he was a baby, not a "clump of cells." Terrible, heart-wrenching things happen in this life, but these terrible things are opportunities for us to learn and grow and come closer to Him.

Thank you Fr. Mike. I have recently reverted to Catholicism after being quite sinful. (You had a part in that particularly getting me back to the sacrament of confession) . I pray the rosary daily now and had been praying to God to have the grace to eradicate my sinfulness. You’ve just given me a great understanding of acceptance and giving it to God. Thank you. Also half of these sites the person running them won't answer. Anyways if we are not to tell people about repentance then what are we aloud to say? Hey Jesus loves you the way you are no need to say sorry about anything? We are sinners and all need to repent. I'm not being prideful if it coming off this way then I am sorry.

@ Matthew. Thank you for your reply. I can see it in the email notification, but it is not visible here. KZbin has the worst comment sections ever in the internet history!!! Almost 50% of my comments went lost in the same way. As for the joint declaration with Lutherans... Actually it is the statement of the same old catholic doctrine. That's our doctrine for 2,000 years. For example you can check St. Augustin (400 CE) and St. Thomas Aquinas (1200 CE). They are the greatest catholic theologians, and they have explained Grace & Justification in the same way we explain today. (You can read the Cathechism, free online, chapter Grace and Justification, with all the ancient references of catholic history...). If you like, check it. It was a huge misunderstanding due to mutual hatred and to many heretics all over Europe. It was not due to true Catholic Doctrine. Catholic Church always taught that we have no merits for Salvation. (But we can donate and we can add our works to the Sacrifice of Christ - only because He has allowed us to do that. And that's why we co-operate to our sanctification). God Bless. Thank you for your being here and for your kindness 😇😇😇

That's very true. We were not born this way . We chose to do what we wanted to do. One of the things my wife tells me is that I'm hard-headed. Even though I'm back in the church practicing Catholic, I still make mistakes, and I'm striving to do better . One of the things I do when I'm going to mass at Sunday's I listen to the priest What God has given him to say We're not there just to watch Was there to listen To meet God Who the holy communion I did all my confessions I had to go to 3 confessions cause I didn't remember everything since I was gone for so long . And I'm trying my best to do the right thing . The only thing I don't like My former church showed up and asked what where have I been I do not want to tell him I'm going to the Catholic for church now cause they will give me a hard time. So I texted the pastor I returned to the Catholic Church, blocked his calling 📞

I'm very happy that you made this video. I had been asking this for a while but I never remembered when I was with someone who could answer it, the question being, how did God make me perfect but I still need to change because I sin? You saying, "God loves you just the way you are but He loves you too much to let you stay this way", really clarified that for me. Many thanks Father.

I totally love this, very well explained. Because if we say, we are like this with all our flaws, and that our flaws are who we are, there is no hope it actually t kills hope, and that's why I believe people get sick, and we have so many Mental Health problems because of people accepting the flaws as being this way and do not let them go. We cut off our growth of becoming a "better" person. Thanks for this brilliant video. Such deep truth.

We must follow the will of God as best we can, and when we fall in sin, we ask God to forgive us. And when we fall in grave sin, which makes our faith falter, we must use the sacrament of confession to reconcile ourselves back to God and His church, lest we fall away even further

Thank you Father. Our individual flaw/weakness is our personal path to holiness. What I struggle with is different than what someone else struggles with-it requires my dependence on God, my faith that He will help me. This same struggle/flaw may not even be an issue for someone else, thus not calling for their dependence in that area. Ultimately, our flaws are what will draw us closer to the Lord and to sainthood.

What God has made is good what is the result of the original sin corrupted nature. We are not conceived or born with Sanctifying Grace because of the original sin. Which is why it's the duty of the Church to preach the Gospel and bring people to the Sacraments in which they would receive Sanctifying Grace within themselves. Christ within themselves.

Original sin is itself a stupid concept: Being punished for the actions of the other is akin to a primitive, savage society and not a modern, rational one.

This is one of the best videos that you've made in a while. I always enjoy your videos and I love your perspective on many things, your last videos were good too. But this one was just the best, it had so many aspects and thought processes and it spoke to me very much. Thank you! I wish you could go on talking about the last bit even more, about God loving us too much to leave us this way. I also wish you could make a video on how to deal with situations where you feel intensely rejected by God and stuff like that. Crisis of faith if you will. In such a way that the emotions associated with this very bad situation get actually acknowledged. But either way thank you for this video, it was great!

He has one that touches on that! It's called "Finding God in Darkness". Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYnJip2Kpsuib9E Also I don't know if you're going through that feeling but I have and I promise you, there is no power strong enough to separate you from his love (Romans 8: 35-39). The loving Father is gazing down on you, well pleased with his beloved child. He let Roman soldiers shred his skin apart just so he could hold you in heaven. It's hard because our feelings are such a huge part of who we are and when we don't *feel* loved it seems like we simply aren't loved. But take heart, love--even the darkest night will end and the sun (or Son) will rise!

Hello gill426, Jesus can identify with you, He felt rejected by God on the cross, and in one sense He was because He became guilty of every sin you and I have ever committed. After He rose from the dead, He didn't reject the apostles for abandoning Him, He told them "Peace be with you." I hope this helps.

@@GustAdlph Hello, thank you! Yes, I've been contemplating that too and it gives me some relief at least that this is a shared experience. I'm not too sure about the sin stuff though but I can imagine He felt rejected too and that is a relief in so far that it can be overcome and that even the Lord Himself knows those dark human experiences. Thank you for your words though, they were comforting.

I wanted to say to both of you that I was actually genuinely pleasantly surprised with this reaction. I hadn't imagined any or if so, I usually get incomprehension or people who want to tell me that I'm wrong and that God is actually a nice guy and to stop being so negative or something like that. So it really was helpful to see some compassion and hope. Because yes, what we feel we believe. But maybe I can find out what blocks the love. Usually it's trauma in such cases. I'll try to take heart and find _my_ way out. Thank you for your kindness!
