99.99999999999999999999999999999 percent of the time it's whose hands the ball is in. If I went and bowled any pro event and we all used the same balls, the leaders on tour, would still rule the top 20 of that tournament!!

That one needed to be on a short pattern or something medium flat. I commend Chris for the effort. You could see right away that pitch black is softer. I do see this being used 1st, maybe 2nd game on tour. I just don't know how long people can stay in it... Chris touched on the Rev rate aspect of things... ect...

I've found that at a house where the synthetics are the original pro anvils and are 30+ years old, and with a longer house pattern with lighter volume overall, game 2 gives me a much better look with urethane than with reactive, especially the IQ|U (3000 grit because it needs to get through the beat up fronts). The pattern tends to tighten down lane because everyone starts so far left because the fronts are beat up after years of wear and tear and they just create a tough over under shape. Urethane lets me bump to the right and firm up my speed to just control the pocket instead of trying to play left to right where a miss right or getting slow is a high split, a miss left or getting fast is a light split, and hitting your target perfectly results in a lot of weak 10's. The other house which has old synthetics are softer but the pattern is also shorter. That combo makes reactive the go to because everything hooks too early and it just carries better than urethane.

Another good video Barnzy. I like using urethane on a fresh THS to get a feel for the lane condition before moving into my Reactive pieces. So far, it has been working out for me. Thanks for the PB comparison.

Very informative review. Back during the 80's everyone threw urethane on tour and in league, how were the oil patterns in league different that urethane was a good choice compared to today's house shots where it is not?

Simple: back then, house shots weren't as cliffed as they are today, because urethane balls didn't chew through oil the way resin does. Enter resin which ripped oil off the lanes and the tug of war between ball and lane oil began, resulting in the "modern" super cliffed house shot.

From the information we have, it is real traditional urethane. I think ive seen the video you are referring to, and I found it interesting as well. I think there is a lot of conflicting information in the industry

not a fair comparison ball is new, older stuff has oil soaked into ball wait till ball has been used a bit and it will calm down.

I'm one of those weirdos that throws a urethane(Pitch Black) on a house shot in league and bowls over 200 pretty much every time, sometimes over 250. I'd say I'm going to continue to do it, haha.

my question was in the do those type of new version of urethane balls would it still drag oil instead of observe like reactive it looks like yes because urethane balls can help an oil pattern get easier if you use it long enough at the right time like on Don Carter for example which I would do or some bowlers use it on short patterns though I don't on short patterns like my very favorite pattern which is the Viper pattern so that I can just throw it hard and straight out as possible which I like to do on patterns like that I’ll have to get that ball to replace the illegal pitch black ball if I can ask you Chris which is your very favorite oil pattern that's not house

People throw urethane on house shots because they see them being used on the tour. And now there is a stigma over the “drama” they cause and the ability to play “defense”. Too bad your causing a bad reaction for your own teammates as well. I don’t care who you are there’s no adjustment, and you can’t just out bowl bad reaction. The companies should have just made urethane balls look like the new seller they want to push off the shelves like they used to for the tour.

Long as the ball was MANUFACTURED with 78 hardness (read the rule) it shouldn't matter.

That’s cool. Didn’t know that. I feel like the whole reason why the hardness issue ever came about was because older bowling balls were softer. I assumed with age the balls get softer and players were complaining about the disadvantage they had. But I suppose you’re saying that older balls were made softer?

They drop on avg of 5 points with the amount of use the pros put them through. That said this ball looks like the old Urethanes from the 80s n 90s. Should make tv shows a bit more interesting.

Have less angle. For example, 10 at arrow, 10 at the breakpoint. This is in front of you. Rather than a more typical house shot like of 15 at arrows to 6 at break point

Urethane isn't really great on dry lanes. More about controlling the breakpoint on fresh lanes or shorter patterns

Yes it for sure does because older urethane used to be 73 hardness and would get softer overtime and leading to more hook that’s why PBA only now allows urethane that is 78 hardness
