My sister didn’t have the budget for a videographer with the experience she would’ve liked, but she had some funds available and put a post online asking if any videographers wanted to do the job for the listed price to gain experience, exposure, work for their portfolio. It was an amazing beach venue, with a carosel in a gorgeous antique building and anyone would love to film/take photos in it. This college kid responded and sent her some work, said he would do it. Let me tell you, he was a huge highlight to the wedding. He was so excited and eager to work, he set up go pros to get multiple angles of the ceremony, came with bubble wands and noise makers to get kids attention and keep them smiling. He was just an amazing person just having him there was a pleasure and we honestly weren’t expecting anything over the top. Within 48 hours he had already edited a huge portion and sent us a preview. It was out of this world!! We couldn’t wait for the full video, which he of course, nailed as well. My sister and her ex have since divorced lol but I will always recommend her videographer and we still love his work. I think it’s tacky to ask for discounts or expect someone to work for less then they’re worth. But if someone is just starting out and offers to work at a reduced rate to gain experience, that’s different. But you as the person hiring them, also need to know your expectations need to be realistic for what they’re capable of. Oh, and we made sure all of the workers we hired ate and were taken care of. We had food trucks, dessert tables, buffet. At one point we even told the photographer, her helper and the videographer sit down, we don’t need pictures of everyone’s mouth full, eat with us! And having them sit and chit chat was so much fun, they got to ask about family, relationships and who to focus the camera on more and stuff.

That's not how things work. If you offer me a Rolls Royce for $15K and you supply me a used Honda, you don't get to say "you're lucky you got a Honda". You have to supply the Rolls Royce. I had a business for 8 years, oh would it have been nice to say "We charged half the price of the big competitors; you're lucky we did anything at all for you". Instead we did things for $50 /hr and 1.5 days that competitors could accomplish with 3 $90/hr consultants on site plus two weeks. We had one client we thought we could save $2M; we promised $1M. They were so used to big companies coming in and lying through their teeth they said OK but we'd be happy with $500K. We ended up saving them $3M! They were so happy they gave us a $50K bonus that wasn't in the contract. That's how you do business as a smaller company - always underpromise and over deliver. Everyone assumes that if you're smaller you'll give them #&^##@. Never, ever underperform or it'll confirm the stereotypes and they'll drop you immediately.

I told you!! Took great SHOTS but was missing original audio. They wanted traditional. And dark. Weddings are supposed to be BRIGHTER

Yeah he should’ve known by the price. However a test run should be done before the wedding at the venue

I once had a guy come round to give a quote to tile my bathroom - other quotes were around £500 - but this guy said £180 ‼️ I thought : "whats he gonna do, put adhesive on the wall and throw the tiles at it and hope they stick" I used another guy ... 🙄🙄

Ive gone through zero classes, messed around with a camera for a few years and figure out how to properly take photographs and video. id charge more than $250 because I know my skillset. if someone's charging you that little it's because they know their skillset, and it's not very good
