The only reason I came to this video is because, I was going through Facebook videos and an ad for Lime Crime: Unicorn Hair popped up. The video made claims such as, “No lightening needed for dark hair, colors high in pigment and will fully color dark hair with no bleach.” I was like, I need to see a review for this because it sounds too good to be true. I was correct.

How about you all go read the FAQ about how this works on dark hair and their claims. I'm glad you tested out, since supposely it would leave a tint on dark hair. I was crossing fingers the whole time hoping it would work for you. I can see a little difference but not enough to go through all that. the problem is that if you don't bleach your hair the color washes out way faster. I know from personal experience, I thought that I could tint my hair purple without bleaching it, and basically the tint fell out in the shower and all over my pillow the first day. It's not worth is tbh.

Naomi Xx blue hair will ONLY show up true to color on very pale hair. If it's brassy then it'll come out green so if you plan on going blue, bleach and tone hun.

Naomi Xx blue isn't a color to use for tinting hair sadly. A blue based black maybe but straight up blue won't do anything for you.

I asked them personally which ones would work as a tint and they said blue smoke, chocolate cherry, pony, and jello were the only 4 that would be semi noticeable as a tint. Everything else is recommended for lighter hair

Alexandra inmon as long as the dye is darker than your actual hair it should work. I had very very deep brown hair and manic panic's vampire red worked like a charm and was decently priced. Good luck hun!

Scarlett Johnson not at all! It's vegan so there's no harsh chemicals. It's completely plant based with added conditioner so the longer you leave it in the better your hair will actually feel :)

don't use lime crime because that's a semi permanent if you want that red hue to your hair, go to Sally's and check out a red color booster in the tube color section. you can add that to your "brown" hair color and it'll give that hue. they even have it in blue and the green color booster is for when you want to take the red out

You actually can tell even on video that the deep red tinted your hair it looks really good and I can see where it stops in the middle but yeah it definitely tinted your hair. But the pastels did nothing. Very pretty with or without it!

It's so crazy that people are confused about how hair dye works. It's a dye - for an analogy (super obvious, seemingly) if you try to use pink fabric dye on a black or super dark fabric, of course it won't show up. If you use that same color dye on a medium brown colored fabric, it will show but probably be a weird color (brown mixed with pink?). Same as hair. Of course those hair colors won't show. Hair needs to be lightened. Just as you would bleach fabric to get it to a lighter color, hair need to be bleached/lightened. And once and for all - to get dark hair to a light color, it needs to be bleached, lightened - LIFTED in color. Blonde (when going from dark to light) isn't "dyed", it's lifted! You can't dye a black shirt a pale color, you have to bleach it. It seems SO incredibly obvious how this all works but I guess the concept isn't quite so common-sense/well-understood as one might think.

I literally have the lime crime unicorn hair chocolate cherry on my head right now. I was recommended to let it sit for any hour so it would last longer. Hoping it works as well as Arctic Fox's Ritual color hair dye. But the chocolate cherry left a pretty tint. I'm hoping to avoid having to lighten my hair a touch, we'll see

I have lighter brown hair and I bought Chocolate Cherry. I loved it! It turned such a gorgeous deep pink. But I don't think I'll ever use it again because I created such a disaster during the process. I'm like you...I make a huge mess coloring. Turned myself, towels, shower bright pink. Worked out the next day and sweated pink! I'm sad, because I loved the color so much, and it lasted too. But next time I'm going to the salon!

first time i used Artic Fox, it gave a really good tint with my dark hair. (since then i've had it bleached though) and i used purple rain which is the dark purple.

Like every single one semi-permanent dye they only supposed to be used on not to dark hair, because they are basically condition and pigment based, so only a darker tone then your actual hair will really show up. Of course in you use a red tone on your brown hair is going to give a lil bit a shine but if you're using it on almost black hair it won't be as vibrant as on bleached or really fair hair

Oh! I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this to you before, but,color gets out color. If you get color on your skin you can use son left over color to get out the color, just dab a little and then wipe away with water. That's what I do

direct dyes (dyes that you dont mix with developer) typically dont work on darker colors because you arent changing the base color just adding a color on top of it.

Use lemon juice, honey, and a little olive oil. Go out in the Sun for 15-30 minutes. And your hair will turn blonde. Use paint or food coloring to add color to the mixture

I used the L’Oréal Féria fuchsia hair dye on my dark hair and it showed up pretty well, nothing dramatic but a very bright almost cherry, if that makes sense lol. But I would recommend that for the price (10$) and I figured I would continue dying my hair in that color range and hopefully my hair would, in a sense, become pink.

I have hair that is even darker than yours!!! But I love to have a burgundy hair color, so what I use is a bright orange colour from "Directions" and leave it on for 3-5 hrs and it gives me the best vibrant red colour!!:)

If you cover your hair with plastic like a shower cap or plastic bag it prevents it from getting crusty and might help the color penetrate better. Also, thank you for doing these videos, you never know if something might work.

Wear a plastic/vinyl coloring salon smock with a rag underneath to protect your neck. Don't know why girls aren't doing that. As far as the color, your hair is very dark, no light color can absorb into such a naturally full hair shaft. There are some very bright tones made for dark hair, but they are especially formulated for levels 1-4 hair.

Usually when people use fashion colors they a) lighten their hair first and b) use developer; the strength level of the developer affects how the dye penetrates. Conditioner is great for lightening the color and keeping your hair soft, but it doesn't help the dye deposit. Very dark hair usually needs 30 or sometimes 40 volume developer.

The lime crime hair color is a semi-perminent which means it deposits color inly and will not lift your hair color. If you use a color lighter than your hair its obviosuly not going to work. These colors will work best over hair bleached to a super pale blonde

Yeah for dark hair your have to bleach it if it's a pastel color. JS also there is something that does less damage than bleach but I forgot the name of it.

About your neck, I get my daughter (a hairdresser) to do my hair (yes, fantasy colours.. I'm old but I'm still just a big kid 😋) and we use clean and clear (the acne lotion) on make-up pads to remove any dye left around the hairline, on the ears, neck etc. Just be careful not to get too much on your hair.

Will you use a semi permanent rinse your hair should be freshly washed but in order to rinse it out you only use conditioner and the best way for it to even remotely come out is to use a Teatree-mint shampoo and a color holding conditioner

You can put Vaseline or petroleum jelly on your neck and hair line so the dye doesn't stain your skin.

I think it made your hair look healthy & noticeably different in some ways (not that it looked bad ever or honestly needed it) & shiny. I still think it could be considered like spa treatment, but not worth the time & price? Do you think more time would effect it + all product or does no one ever use the whole bottle? It's probably not worth it. Just curious, I know someone with darker hair, but I have light brown-red-blonde hair myself so everything shows up pretty well. She liked anything to make her hair look nice like that. We kind of half joke/half serious rule we live by, we'll work hard one day to be lazy for awhile. Meaning work hard one day for that hair if it makes it healthy + super manage & easy for sometime afterwards lol. Great video, very informative, you're probably 100% correct! Also my screen is dark because I have a condition that causes pain with light, especially blue, and I'd rather ask a KZbinr and fans for advice than rish pain!
