Benny is a cool dude. He’s no BS. But he does have a tendency to tell the guys he trains they are good enough to compete. He told it to Patrick Swayze during road house. But I believe he believes it. I’d you’ve got Benny, great fighter and trainer and you add a motivated, hard working student like a cusack or swayze who is a serious minded, committed individual, that student will get good quickly. So, maybe these guys could have been competitive in amateur kickboxing matches. Or maybe Benny just tells guys what they want to here. It is Hollywood. The land of BS. And celebrity’s can be soft with fragile egos. Though I don’t think Benny would be so happy for a paycheck that he’d blow smoke.
@MatrixCobretti Жыл бұрын
I don't think he was propping Swayze up. Most people don't know that Swayze trained martial arts since he was a teenager. He trained in Aikido, Taekwondo, Shaolin Kung Fu. Marshall Teague spoke very highly of Swayze's skill level as well. Teague was a Navy SEAL, police officer, and a military Kickboxing champion before he became an actor. So in short, the real deal. I saw in an interview where he said that the fight scene at the lake was full contact for real. Patrick broke Marshall's eye socket with a crescent kick and the blood on Marshall's face is real blood. Also Marshall said he broke Patrick's ribs when he swung that log into his side because the log was real and not a prop. Apparently Swayze insisted that all the fight scenes in the movie were full contact to the body.

I love Bruce Lee but yes I'm certain that Michael at his prime would beat Bruce at his prime. Michael has size, power and reach advantage. He is very skilled. You see. Grown-ups see past the magical invincibility attributed to famous people. We use common sense. There are weight classes in professional fighting for a reason.
@TheRogueSquid Жыл бұрын
It’s not about magical invincibility. Weight classes are good way to get fights sanctioned. Bruce Lee isn’t as small as everyone seems to think, he’s only a couple inches shorter than Mike Tyson, had a very long reach, incredibly strong and the fastest and most explosive striker as testified by everyone who trained and sparred with him. Even by this man Benny “The Jet”. Plus styles make fights. Bruce would stop hit and eye gouge you quicker than you could react and hit you with follow up strikes until you seeing black and that’s the game. But again he’s dead 50 years so it’s a pointless argument. You can’t be right or wrong on the subject.
@CaveCanem74 Жыл бұрын
@@TheRogueSquid I only used weight classes to make a point. I grew up adoring Bruce Lee and martial arts, read his books and I never said it would be a fight in the ring with rules. And yes you are right we will never know. I too know of his power and speed from years of study about him, but people make idols out of people like bruce lee. And I still stand by my original statement and that is I don't think Bruce would have beaten Michael in a fight, and I mean a no holds barred street fight. Mike 6 1/2' 205 ish Bruce 5' 7" 141ish. Skill with a weight advantage makes a difference. And again don't misunderstand. I think Bruce was by far one of the most amazing martial artist known. I was such a fan when I was a kid that I bowed to his poster and even talked to him, like he could hear me. So I literally broke the first of the 10 commandments by making him like a god, so there is no hate there, but as I have gotten older, I realized that he is merely a skilled martial artist , but more mortal than I previously believed. Even if he could beat Mike in a fight I guarantee you that without any more training he would not beat the majority of the Top MMA fighters at his weight in the street.
@TheRogueSquid Жыл бұрын
@@CaveCanem74 it’s good to meet someone else who knows more than surface level about Bruce. But again you can’t guarantee anything and we aren’t talking about MMA, Mike isn’t beating any MMA top ten in Bruce’s weight class either not in the street if cage. But again Mike is a karate guy, very good and strong I agree I like his stuff. But I’d he a better karate guy than was already around in Bruce Lees time? No. I don’t think at all. Bruce was no stranger to full contact sparring and fighting especially big karate guys. But again our opinions just differ and we will never truly know. Thanks for the conversation brother, be well!

Interesting to note that Benny trained Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine to fight with his feet.

So John Cusack would be a greater challenge then Jackie Chan, Van Damme, Patrick Swayze and Sammo Hung. Yeah right in their prime as well that would be fun to see. Joe Lewis to that he did a movie with force five in 1981

None of the guys you mentioned had legitimate full contact experience. JCVD has made many debunked claims, but his background is in light contact and point sparring. The others don’t even have that. I don’t know Cusack’s training, but I do know that if he trained under Benny for over thirty years and that he promoted him to 6th dan in his system and vouches for him, that’s a lot more solid evidence than the Movie Fu of the others you mentioned. There are many people in the martial arts that never train full contact and look impressive on film.

@@davidhughes6741 what the fuck are you on about so just because benny trained John Cusack the he is one best fighters around more then michael jai white jackie chan jet li sammo hung and what have you. show me one clip of john training or sparring with anybody and I can show you stuff with the others. Benny is great sure but so are many others and thats kickboxing he did, there are many others martail arts as well and Jean Claude van damme have competed may it be in light contact and point sparring but thats what Chuck norris did as well in karate. Jackie Chan has trained with many under his career and trained many as well

Stan Lee wanted John to play Spiderman in a movie way back in the 1980's when they were trying to get a Spidey movie off the ground.

John Cusack is legit, to be sure, and I have MAD respect for both his acting and martial arts skills... BUT... he is outclassed in distance management, experience, accuracy, and raw physicality by Michael Jai White. Cusack is a tough dude to be sure... but 9/10 times, I give the win to MJW. Also, regarding belief, the legendary Bas Rutten once said that if you ask him if he would win vs. literally anyone in human history in an MMA type contest, he would bet on himself... NOT because of ego... but because if you BELIEVE you CAN lose, it makes it exponentially more likely. I like that mindset. Having said that, MJW thinks that just because he has sparred with a lot of super legit MMA fighters, he can beat them in a legit fight contest. Contrary to MJW's beliefs, sparring and fighting aren't the same thing, and he would get pieced up by Mike Tyson for sure... even if kicks were allowed. The real question in MJW vs. Cusack is... how good is Cusack's grappling? Because from what I've seen, MJW, as skilled a striker as he legitimately is... is NOT master grappler (although he DOES have some experience in this area as well, contrary to popular belief). So if Cusack has badass Judo/Wrestling/BJJ skills... he has a better chance than I previously estimated for sure! Either way, mad respect to two legit martial artists and actors that I love!

Michael Jai White wasn't a full-contact fighter. He was a point guy, like Chuck Norris. People get it twisted. Cusack also trained with Don "The Dragon" Wilson, another legendary World Kickboxing Champ. As we all know, kickboxing is an entirely different approach to combat martial arts.

“He’s not bad at martial arts but his cup of tea is kickboxing” 3:41. Sounds more like he can do techniques good but americanized Muy Thai is his thing. And yes, size matters. If we can respect Cusack for his reach and his training, then we can also respect MJW, whose resume is longer than Cusack. Plus let’s be real here. MJW is big and fast. Cusack would be crushed by a power blow to the ribs or chin.
