I can definitely confirm this is right. I used to work in vfx productions and previously we had 16gb machines, maybe even 12gb. At some point compositing and other tasks became impossible especially when we were stressed for delivery. Thankfully they upgraded our machines to 64gb and the process was much smoother and pleasant to work with.

One thing to point out is that "Quad RAM configuration" (4 RAM slots on the Motherboard), should not be confused with "Quad Channel" which requires 8 slots of RAM. Great tests, BTW.

I think that the test is a bit flawed. What you essentially tested is not whether the amount of RAM plays a role in performance, but the amount of memory channels you used. Your Threadripper CPU supports and runs best with quad channel memory configuration, meaning 4 sticks of RAM. It's kind of obvious that if you use less than 4 channels (or 4 sticks of RAM) with this CPU, performance will be lower. Interesting test nonetheless.

I have also realised that Ram plays important role for rendering in 3ds Max. I have upgraded my 5 years old PC with nice graphics card with 6gb vram, thinking that this would be enough to handle everything, however I noticed the ram usage when rendering just a little bit complex scenes always rockets up to 14gb especially when I had nice cars and trees as well as hi-res textures. By the way, Thank you, for preparing those nice tutorials and generously sharing your knowledge here!

Both AMD and Intel produce CPUs that support either dual channel or quad channel memory. With AMD, the ones that support quad channel memory is the Threadripper line of CPUs and for Intel it's the CPUs that have "X" in the name like 10980xe, 9960x. 7920x etc.

Wow, your explanation is spot on, I love it, I am 100% subbed! I have a question, it would be great to have your opinion on it: I have an asus n580vd-fi038t laptop (the one with 4k display) and I edit 4k videos on premiere pro with some fairly important after effects VFX in them. I use proxies in premiere pro, everything runs fairly smoothly, however when it's time to render in 4k, it often gives me rendering error when it gets to the vfx or any heavy transition part. So all that work and then impossible to render 4k. It does render in 720p and 1080p when the effect is not too strong, but i need to render in 4k, there is no alternative on that, 4k 25p, that's it :) I am waiting for an extra corsair vengeance 16gb ddr4 sodimm ram which will arrive this tuesday (the laptop already has 16gb ram installed, the asus website says that's the max it can handle, but there's still a free ram spot so screw it, i'll throw that it and see if it recognizes it, if it does that definitely won't hurt the rendering process). This laptop has a 4gb nvidia gtx 1050 for laptops, I am afraid that this is where the bottleneck is, but I'm really not sure... this pc has a 3.1 usb C - not thunderbolt! - so I'm not sure if I could even buy an egpu (it needs a thunderbolt to work, right??), and anyways a great gpu card would cost me as much as the laptop cost me, and I have the feeling that it's missing just a tiiiiny liiittle bit and it could render my 4k videos, I'm really borderline, I feel... so ram is my first try. Then I was thinking swapping the micron SATA ssd for the samsung 970 pro 512 gb ssd, but I would have to reinstall windows, adobe etc, right? That might be a problem, the windows was sold in the laptop, so I dunno... plus, i wonder if the nvme vs the sata will radically change the rendering capabilities of my laptop, I wouldn't want to do all that and then realize that it still can't render heavy 4k lumetri effects... sorry for the long message, I am kind of totally lost and any advice would really be welcome! Almost all of the regular consumer motherboards on the market, even though they have 4 slots of ram, they still work in dual channel mode. Only the bigger ones with 8 slots of ram, start benefiting from quad channel memory. Nice video anyway, thx for the info.

It doesn't matter if you have an Intel CPU , but if you are using an AMD CPU the faster RAM the better , for AMD I recommend 3200mhz

hai there. if you use limiter for the audio, set the threshold to lift overall audio, and most importantly set the limit between -2dB to -1dB, you'd probably avoid audio clipping. digital clipping is , , , just plain horrible. or else, you can use 32bit format for audio recording and still do the limiting. guten glucken.

Speaking from experience using Adobe programs, the more ram, the better. 16gb has been a noticeable speed increase for me. Now I have 32gb which is a noticeable speed increase over 16gb.

Faster GPU will not affect the rendering speed unless you are using GPU rendering engines such as VRay GPU or Redshift Faster RAM will not affect also faster CPU of course and using multiple RAM channels such as in the video

As I suggest, You need to check to cpu how much speed support. Although upgrade your MB, your cpu is lower than MB support will not making what your goal. If you wanna upgrade, also cpu with MB than Ram speed as well.

It depends on the kind of work you do. I do a lot of graphics work. From my personal experience, 32gb has absolutely been a necessary and worthwhile upgrade. 16gb served me well for a time, but my projects have gotten more intensive, so 32gb is a Godsend in terms of speeding things up. And even with the 32gb, some of my projects are still stressing the limits which is why I'm going to get a desktop setup where I can install 64gb.

تقريب نفس النتيجة على كورونا رندر بحالتك جيب رام واحد اضافي بس لازم يكون مطابق للرام الي عندك لازم الرامات تكون متطابقات لان الرامات بيهن سرعات وتوقيتات فاذا جبت مختلفات راح تصير خربطة وتكوم تطلع عندك شاشة زرقاء هواية فاما تجيب رام مطابق لنفس السرعة والتوقيت او تشتري كتات 2 جدد اذا ملكيت

Excellent video. Really appreciate your efforts. I work in 3ds max with vray next. I currently have 4 of 8 ram slots occupied with 4X 8gb sticks of RAM making a total of 32gb. If i buy another 4X 8gb sticks of RAM and insert those into the remaining 4 empty ram slots, I'll have a 64gb setup. Is this a good idea or should I just buy 2X 16gb sticks making that a total of 4X 8gb sticks and 2X 16gb sticks.......leaving 2 ram slots empty. Thank you.

its a realy wrong comprasion becus u are benefiting from Ram channels not capacity!!! your cpu and MB can support Quad channel memory so if u compare a single stick 32gb vs 4 stick of 4gb u will see 4x4 win becus u are using 4channel not single or two...this video make people buy wrong parts for theyr job

I did mention that the capacity have nothing to do with rendering speed ! and I showed the charts for that ... as you said it is the RAM channels .
