Another way to check if this due to evaporation.. just mark the level reduce in day hours and again mark same hour for night.. if both day/night rate of level change is same it means there is leakage or if there is difference of level and more drop in day time .. it means it actual evaporated.. because evaporation increased in day time and if it is sunlight than increase more...

Great technique! I am in Florida and have a cement inground pool that looks like the one in your video (including the same skimmer baskets). I know I have a leak. Losing 1 inch per day when the water level is at the middle of the skimmer face. I see a few bubbles coming out of the water jet near the skimmer. Which suggests air is aspirating in and water is probably leaking out somewhere. How do you search for the leak? No signs of leakage around the pump. Where to look? Perhaps you have a video on finding the leak?

Hi Peter, we do have a longer video that covers this a little. It can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXKzlWWQlMefi68 We also have a blog article on using a Dye Test for leak detection. It can be found here: www.inyopools.com/blog/dye-test-for-swimming-pool-leaks/

@@Inyopools Thanks for the help! The leak was 1" of missing grout between 2 corner tiles in a skimmer box. Fixed with pool putty (epoxy paste). No more leak!

Does a water feature increase the evaporation? I seem to be losing about 50 gallons a day from a recirculating creek. Sunny weather in Portland Oregon, so not humid. I haven't located anything else that could be the source. If I leave the creek off, no water is lost from the reservoir. Installer put geotextile cloth below and on top of the liner, so I'm sure it soaks up some and then wicks it to the air.

I have an older pool and I can actually see water on the pool deck in one area. My tile is old and the grout is pretty much shot. I am in central florida as well. I lost almost 2.5 inches in 24 hours. Do I need to have tile regrout? Or can I use some sort of silicone and just do entire pool tile? Tile is only is only on top border of pool and goes just to bottom of skimmer.

Hi Sr. Did you have a diagnostic of your pool? Leaking or evaporation? I have the same problem now and I am very confused.

Thank you! This was really helpful. I was wondering if my pool was loosing too much water but 1/4 of an inch daily sounds about right. I have an uncaged pool and I have a water feature. It’s starting to get hot here in FL and it just seemed like I should research it a little more. So Thank you for the quick informational video! Made me feel better 😀

Thank you for the feed back. We're located in central Florida and we're noticing a lot of evaporation in the last couple of weeks weeks.

1/4 is too high. That is what I was told was OK amount when I suspected a leak. After I fixed the leak at one of my jets, my loss was 1/16th".. Venice, Fl.

Don't you have to turn off the water to the pool first? If there is any leak the auto fill will just fill it up overnight. Correct?
@Inyopools
@Inyopools 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you have auto fill, you will need to turn it off to identify if you have a leak.

Does water seep through the gunite? I have a rubber painted pool and some of the paint is gone (I'm planning on painting this next spring). Anyway, it like 95-100+ and I'm losing what seems like inches of water a day, but there's no signs of leaking anywhere. Thoughts? Could it be just extreme evaporation?

I have a leak. Whenever return water is set to half pool/ spa I lose water. It has to do when spa is involved. Question is how to I fix the leak in the spa system? We already grouted top of spa and skimmer area and it did not fix problem.
@Inyopools
@Inyopools 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruby, if the spa water level stops at the same level as the pool, there is a chance that the problem is a bad check valve in the spa plumbing. Our friend David has a video that covers this in detail: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6XGe5hpgKd3mdE

How about cold weather, evaporation more?
@Inyopools
@Inyopools 9 ай бұрын
Water evaporation may increase in winter depending on the difference between air and water temp. Low humidity and high winds will also increase evaporation rates.

How come no one has commented yet that .3 inches is GREATER than 1/4 inch? A 1/4 inch is .25 inches and .3 is larger, SMH. All calculations are now wrong, lol.

We have a pool guy, who also inspected the inground pool before we bought the house. I trust him and his knowledge. However, I can't seem to accept weather or not the pool is leaking. We are in Connecticut. We just had a pool heater installed. It runs during the day. So I would say we are losing about an inch a week. From what I watched this is ok?. Maybe an inch and a third to be more exact at times. I'm going to do another measurement. Does this sound about right?. Thanks.
