I bought this pedal about a year ago and really like it. I'm using it in front of a crunchy Marshall and Friedman and it works very well. And it doesn't seem to mind being placed after my Line6 wireless, which is one characteristic I was looking for in a fuzz. I primarily use it for guitar solos that require extra sustain and for when I'm looking for that Fuzzy, trippy vibe. It's great and will remain on my pedalboard.

I just bought this pedal today actually wanting the limited run tone bender boss pedal but decided to try out this pedal. Now having tried many other fuzz pedals throughout the years including a lot of boutique pedals this one blows a lot of the other ones away. It has super quiet operation, beautiful organic fuzz tones that have good lows and highs and has such good range. This is a keeper and my #1 pedal out of all my pedals at the moment.

I love your clean tone as a base point, and the fuzz at noon adds a beautiful overlay. This is one of those pedals that is very tameable but can also get wild and spitty if you want it to.

My favorite boss pedal is the CS-3, such a great little compressor. The FZ-1W has been on my short list for awhile though!

Personally it's my favorite fuzz pedal. It sounds great with every type of pickups. It sounds great on a clean amp. It sounds great both at low and high fuzz settings. It has a low noise floor, it doesn't get "untameable" when you stack it with other boost or drive pedals. And most importantly, being a Boss pedal it doesn't mind wherever you place it on your pedalboard and it's undistroyable, so what's not to love about it 😀 You made it sound great btw, especially with the P90s.

It sounds amazing! I already have it and I love it (huge fan of FUZZ here so I have A LOT of fuzzes), but I can't get it to sound like you. What amp are you using?

I had the boss metal zone and it didn't sound good on solid state amps or PA systems. So I had to switch of to this metal tube distortion pedal and it sounded better. I want to get the waza craft metal zone. The pedals I'm currently using is an an electro harmonix metal muff with the 6 knobs a bypass switch and boost switch and the other one I'm using is an earthquaker devices park fuzz sound pedal.

I have the Boss FZ-5, compared to the hate that pedal got the Boss FZ-1w was praised. Most people for some reason really don't like fuzz anymore vs distortion, unless you are playing Doom Metal or stuff like Kadavar I guess.

I just find it crazy how this came out and it was there and then…crickets…like, I didn’t even see at the Boss booth at NAMM. But having played the Tone Bender I had to check this out. Some folks seem heated that I suggest people don’t like this pedal. It’s not so much hate rather it’s lack of conversation around something that’s actually good.

@@SeanPierceJohnson Yeah, I don't get it to be honest. I think people should worry about practicing and playing more. Finding great gear is very easy these days, there is very rarely any poor gear to be found that often, especially brand new. I buy most of my equipment used, just because of my finances, being disabled and unable to work. I think along with practicing and playing more, learning how to use your equipment is another thing that I think doesn't get enough attention. If you like Fuzz, you will usually like the FZ-1w, the FZ-2, the FZ-3 and the FZ-5. I have a Behringer clone of the Boss Hyperfuzz, which itself is an improved clone of the SurperFuzz, and the SuperFuzz is an awesome Fuzz. A lot of complaints about the Boss FZ-5 is that it doesn't have a tone control. Welll neither did almost all of the vintage fuzzes, the Fuzz Face etc. I really think people like to complain instead of doing productive things for some reason, I don't get it.

@@JDStone20 The "problem" is that it's a $200 Boss pedal. It's one of my favorite pedals but it's a hard sell. I have fuzzes from Analogman, Tru-Fi, Fulltone, and Chase Tone that cost the same or less. $200 can get you great boutique fuzzes. It's hard to sell a Boss at that price regardless of how great it is. People don't want to spend $200 on Boss when that can get you boutique. And a lot of Boss fans like them because they're not $200. Boss sells premium pedals but the public doesn't see them as a premium company.
@JDStone20

@@JELIFISH19 Well, Boss used to be a boutique pedal at one time, and this is a throw-back to that era, it being the Waza-Craft series. Now, I agree with you that the price is ridiculous, but if you ask me, $200 for any fuzz pedal is absolutely silly. The components are not that expensive, an a fuzz circuit is not a complicated one, especially a FuzzFace circuit. I would rather build my own fuzz pedal from a kit that ever pay $200 for a fuzz box. That is just me though. And Boss used to also be a Premium Company, not sure what is up with their marketing department the last 15-20 years, but Boss was always if not top-of-the-line, then very close to it. Also, price isn't everything. There is a lot of voodoo magic salesmanship/marketing and a lot of shilling in the guitar world, I rather spend money on lessons or something that will help me practice more efficiently than spend $200 on a Fuzz pedal. But again that is just me, and I guess it is why I bought the Boss FZ-5 Fuzz used for $85, and not the Waza-Craft FZ-1w Fuzz.

Most people don’t like fuzz vs distortion? Huh? Doom metal? Bro, one of the most popular bands of the 2010s, Tame Impala, a psych rock band that actually got into the mainstream and got on albums with Travis Scott and Rihanna, an actual good rock band with quality music in the 21st century, and they (or rather he, Kevin Parker) used fuzz all over their albums, especially the first two. I mean, he singlehandedly revived psychedelic rock and a bit of shoegaze as well and made tons of ppl interested in 60s/70s/80s psychedelic sounds like fuzz again. He is the reason the Diamond Vibrato went to insane prices and the whole ”warped vinyl/tape” sound is largely because of Tame Impala’s influence. I mean, look at all the young tiktokers playing indie/jangle/shoegaze/psych stuff now. Many of them use fuzz and it’s pretty obvious Tame Impala is a huge influence on that whole generation. I mean MGMT, Mac DeMarco and even My Bloody Valentine are super popular too, but if we talk about modern-day fuzz-drenched music, you have to mention Tame Impala.

Definitely the FZ-5 gets more hate for digital fuzz snobbery. I've found it to be a pretty nifty, versatile pedal. Would really like to check out the Waza FZ. Boss just gets hate for becoming the king of the mountain. If the layman had to draw an electric guitar they'd attempt a Strat, if they had to draw a pedal they'd attempt a Boss.
