So I'm unable to fact check this so I didn't put it in the video but I've heard it from a couple of people before; Australia used to have an embassy in North Korea, but the story goes that they had a toga party (come on Australians...) and it got a bit wild and the North Koreans didn't take well to it so kind of kicked them out... Anyway. Fun story even if it's not true :)

Yes, in Rome we have a North Korean embassy. As far as I know, Italy was the first State of the G7 to establish diplomatic ties with the DPRK and hence to let DPRK open an embassy in Italy. I wish we could open an embassy in Pyongyang, as well. By the way, great stuff Zoe!!

Nice video again 😄 Unfortunately there's no NK embassy in the Netherlands, where I live. We did have a North Korean restaurant in Amsterdam though. That was about 10 years ago. But the restaurant closed after 6 months.

This was a very nice video. The DPRK embassy in Berlin is interesting as well because it was previously the embassy to the former East Germany. It is far larger than DPRK-German relationships would suggest as a result, with the hotel building that is a part of the DPRK embassy in addition to the main embassy building. The embassy in Berlin also has an area in front of the embassy in which photos are placed highlighting DPRK political topics. There are also in Berlin several Germans who have DPRK ancestry from the period in which DPRK students were sent to East Germany to study and some formed temporary liaisons with German women.

@@ZoeDiscovers The DPRK embassy is in the center of Berlin. When I lived there, one could stand outside and watch the DPRK embassy staff play volleyball in the back of the embassy. The fact that the DPRK embassy owned a youth hostel also made the DPRK embassy in Berlin extremely odd. Anyone could go freely into the youth hostel portion of the embassy.

There's a DPRK 🇰🇵 embassy in Singapore 🇸🇬. As far as I know, I did read an article, mentioning that it looks like a house instead of an office.

In February 2001 Spain and North Korea established diplomatic relations. In 2003, plans to open a diplomatic mission were halted due to North Korea's withdrawal from Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty. On 1 October 2013, Kim Hyŏk Chŏl became the first DPRK ambassador in Spain when his country opened its new embassy in Madrid.

This reminds me of my first visit to Lima, where, after a long flight, I fancied a bit of a walk in the neighbourhood of my hotel to stretch my legs, and, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a certain unmistakable seal featuring a hydroelectric dam in the middle. On a more extensive walk a few years later, I discovered that the DPRK's embassy in Perú is just about a hundred yards down the street from the ROK embassy, raising the speculative spectre of inter-Korean rows over car parks at the local Vivanda supermarket.

Keep doing great job here, Zoe! In my home country Bulgaria there is a DPRK embassy and we have one in Pyongyang as well. Can't wait to visit North Korea one day when the borders are open. Probably because of the close relationship between our countries before 1989.

Hi Zoe. I’m concerned about the recent reports re: Covid in N Korea. Some are describing it as a “disaster”. Can you update us?
@ZoeDiscovers
@ZoeDiscovers 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don't know anything more than what the media is reporting. For sure if North Korea are reporting the disaster, it is possible it's actually a lot worse inside and shouldnt be taken lightly. Hoping everyone there is ok...

@@ZoeDiscovers thanks for responding, Zoe. And thanks for bringing the DPRK and it’s citizens a little closer to us all. Btw, the North Korean Embassy in Canada is in Ottawa, 5000 kilometres from my town on the west coast! The building is rather somber looking, perhaps reflecting the frosty relations between the two countries? The Embassy in London is both quaint and posh in comparison!
