I agree. If my husband were to come to me and complain about every little problem, then I’d get a bit fed up and feel like I couldn’t use him as my rock as he’s not stable himself. Ofc when he is stressed and I ask him, he will say ‘yeah I’m stressed because of work etc’ but he’ll also say for me not to worry about it and it’s fine. And that’s enough for me. I know he’s in a stressed state so I do what I can to cheer him up and pick up what things I can to take some pressure off him, like doing more than my share of house work or cooking his favourite dinner etc, but he doesn’t let me take any of the burden of his stress. He’s the head of the family and he takes on that responsibility.

The way I see it is that if you have negative connotations with being vulnerable with your “friends” because you’re afraid that one day they will share all the struggles which you have confided in them, I suggest that you find new friendships. No human being with an ounce of love and respect for someone would do that, regardless of the state of their friendship with that person. Personally, I feel that you don’t always have to come up with a solution to a problem. Sometimes all you need (even if you don’t think you do) is a little rant. By being vulnerable you’re allowing yourself to actually be yourself in front of someone you trust. As an arab woman I do see in our culture that there is immense pressure on a man to deal with their emotions in an unhealthy way. But by constantly just holding it in because you believe that a “man” should be able to cope with it, you’re forgetting that a “man” is still a human being. Allah didn’t create us as emotionless robots and if we have means of coping with these emotions healthily then hey ho. I feel like there is a huge difference between relying on someone and depending on someone. If in future I get married and all of that great stuff, I would love to feel like I can help carry some of the burdens that my husband would carry and vice versa. Key word here, SOME. I believe that nobody can open themselves up to their partners 100% and I don’t think everyone should because I would assume and hope that they have a relationship with God where they can unburden themselves there since there are things that nobody can deal with better than Allah.

Speaking for myself, i usually do get overwhelmed from other people venting, I personally believe it depends on the type of thing they're complaining about just as y'all said. If it's something important and is actually draining them then i think they should definitely open about it, not being open about your struggles and hardships could lead to the female blaming herself, thinking that he's not happy with her but in reality it's what he's going through

Hussein the comment about your mum saying “it’s embarrassing that you’re tired” boys should sometimes be embarrassed about being tired after work lowkey😂 being tired sometimes is understandable but to be tired after work everyday….cause if you think about it… women go to work, they come home and still have to do all the house work (cook, clean, do the laundry etc) and if you have kids it’s even more work. Even mothers that stay at home, while we are at work they clean the house, make sure food is cooked for us when we come back home, do our laundry and everything. It’s not easy for women

Interesting conversation...I find it hard to open up to others and share what I feel as a woman so it's interesting to hear different male perspectives. I'm learning how to choose who to talk to and when it may help. I've been around men who complain about everything and yes, that's annoying because it feels very negative. However I do like to know vulnerabilities or insecurities of people in my life including men so that I can be sensitive and considerate about it. Certain vulnerabilities and sharing in a relationship makes me have more respect for a man. For example, what he's tackled or dealt with to get to where he is.

There is a difference between being vulnerable with your spouse when things are hard and you need the support, and regularly complaining about “small” difficulties in life. Things become annoying when they happen too often or when a person is coming to you with the same problem over and over again. But being able to talk your spouse/partner and get their support during difficult time is crucial to a relationship, because how will they search that support in you and come to you if they are struggling if you can’t do the same thing. And this is coming from someone who is really struggling to open up to people. I guess it’s all about perspective. Loved the episode 🛒

i feel like some women find it overwhelming when men chat about their problems probably because they're not used to it, since a lot of men typically don't talk about their problems. but tbf it works both ways, a lot of men may feel overwhelmed as well or sometimes they just cba putting up with and listening to a girls problems, tbh i feel like it all comes down to the type of person, some handle it better than others

🛒 I fully agree with Hussain. I expect the guy to deal with his own problems, yes he could talk to me about it. But, I wouldn’t want to him to get too deep with it with me.

Hussain, I don’t usually agree with you but what you said, if a guy is regularly complaining, it is much (speaking from experience).. and it does become a habit. But also, as a partner you do want your guy to tell you and you want to be there for them but some just don’t know where to stop. It’s a tough one

I’m gonna be completely honest, in my opinion if a man comes to me and complains about the same thing everyday then I would get sick of him, but if a man complains about something once and I see that he is trying to better himself at whatever is bothering him or seeking help, then I wouldn’t mind him coming and telling me his issues every now and then. I actually think men should be open about their feelings specially to their partner, because when you keep everything to yourself you start acting different and your mood changes. Your partner should be aware of why that’s happening, if that makes any sense

I think men opening up really needs to become normalised ,its actually ridiculous how men actually think its okay to keep everything inside. As a women from experience its the most attractive thing when men share , sharing and complaining are two different things. We have friends , spouses etc for a reason even if its the tiniest bother you should be able to communicate it . Yes, gym , meditation may help but at the end of the day we are social beings even as a muslim throughout the entire Quran you see examples of men sharing their emotions and prophets and examples from the ahlulbayt being vulnerable. Its actually a strength to be vulnerable and to own what you feel is bravery esp in the society we live in and esp men that are vulnerable.

"As a women" you dont know what its like for men to deal with issues, almost everytime someone says men should open up its always the women that say it that dont know what its like to be a man. men and women deal with issues differently, while you say "its actually ridiculous how men actually think its okay to keep everything inside" we say, "just punch back", but obviously it doesnt work that way.
@henlight9185

@@jamal7404 you’re right as a woman I probs don’t know exactly how it is and by saying it’s ridiculous I’m blaming society and not the men themselves and I assure you not all women would get put off by men opening up as a teacher I see it on a regular basis
@jamal7404
@jamal7404 Жыл бұрын
@@henlight9185 yeah but like hussein said, the society is simply just built this way, its always worked and seems like it always will, its pragmatic and thats why changing it can be dangerous. men opening up is more of a recent movement and we know that when men do open up they are not respected as much and are seen as weak, some women may be okay with that but many would not like their man to be a bitch
@henlight9185
@henlight9185 Жыл бұрын
@@jamal7404 tbh women that think like that really need to change themselves and maybe men should be careful with which woman they choose the be with . Same can be said for women being careful because some men can take advantage of women that may be empathetic, it’s hard out here 😂
