I sincerely prefer the second option. Separate accounts with a joint account for bills ect. But I guess the dynamic changes once you have kids.

My wife and I are %100 in. Didn’t start off that way because we were a meshed family with are own responsibilities before we met with our kids. When we pulled it together we got rid of so much debt and saved a good amount in just a year. Marriage is a merger no matter what. Definitely we pay each other an allowance to do what we feel with it. Any other way to me seems selfish. And that’s a no no in marriage!
