Does Part 2 SUCK? (Chapters 1-3EX Review)

I liked the story and ch 3EX was just so good. But there´s something that I´m still unsure on how to feel, and thats the whole "samsara" stuff, if all is just a loop and everytime the Dreamseeker logs out will appear in a different loop then why the hell did they try to do so emotional the "death" of Songque, she had such an amazing development in ch3 but you know what? That development just disappear when you realizen every loop you will find another Songque. Honestly is like an insult, will I not ever see again our Songque that was just so happy to finally get not just one but 4 best friends? Maybe in that timeline after Helia, Coralie, DS and Sena "logged out" each and everyone of them will just forget them, Songque will remember she somehow saved Langquiu but will never remember she had such amazing friends once, honestly that sucks. If this is what they are planning doing every arc then I'm sorry, it will be impossible for me to feel any kind of empathy, because at the end of the day, that suffering will just vanish when I meet another version of that character in the next simulation

The other Shus I couldn't care less, but I miss the Songque that was afraid of dying and happy for getting friends

Interesting to hear that it got a bit better after chapter 1. I completely dropped the game after chapter 1. The story has been on a decline to me for a while and the chapters late game are way too long for me to maintain interest and try to power through it. "Powering through" a 10 hour story is just torture. Its taken me over a year to finish the Elysian Realm arc and I technically still haven't finished the Moon Arc but I decided to skip to part 2 to give the "fresh start" a try. In the end they lost me when they wanted me to give a shit about characters I just met in an introduction chapter that seemingly never ended and was all over the place. I liked Senadina, Coralie, and Songque but that "like" isn't even that strong either. Pretty much Part 2 didn't cure my burn out like I wanted it to. I'm glad to hear its getting better but for me its too little too late. I don't really think the game is going to hit for me anymore like it used to.

Disclaimer:- long yapping ahead. I am only this critical of part 2 because this was supposed to be the game changer for hi3rd. We got all these new games that look better,play better and whatnot,we got slightly older games like pgr which dominates hi3rd in most aspects so i really wished part 2 to be game breaking but no. Personally arc 1 was really bad for me. For an arc that was advertised to be a new beginning by da wei himself,it did everything opposite of that. 1)Every third line was a callback to part 1, and the writing itself was super bloated and lengthy with complex terms from moon arc . I will prove that: P1 ch 1 was hardly 30 mins long with the combat . P2 ch 1 was close to 3 hrs long without the combat.Why? Introduction chapters arent supposed to be this long. Then we have words like sea of quanta,imaginary tree,pseudotime crystal,cocoon of finality etc. How is a new player supposed to be taking all that in? 2) i also think that the cast is way too big for an introduction arc . 12 new characters in the first arc itself? Hello? Even elysian realm had 11 new characters and thats the second last arc of p1 Too many characters way too early and with no one's surprise, majority of them were handled poorly because too much to do. 3) the world itself felt flat to me. I have played part 2 for a while and that plus the intro cg in ch 1 gives off a wierd impression. Why every part of mars looks like a slightly futuristic earth? Oxia literally gives arc city vibes and that should not be the case. If anyone has played star rail,you would know how different worlds look so different compared to Earth even in gameplay and exploration. Even in hi3rd itself,apho world,phosphorus etc. do not look like the belong to earth. Mars just feels like a copy and i have seen nothing in it that stands out other than that one cg we got during the reveal,which is not good since it is an entire ass planet. How come everything looks the same? Hope that gets better with the new chapter. 4)Mc sucks,no question. No relevance in the story,no motive,cannot fight and isnt playable. Who names their kid entropy? Hoyo gave them voicelines and decided to take everything else which makes a character,a character. Even in the meta they got powercreeped by songque in that patch itself. They arent even featured in the first concept animation of part 2. 5)Combat is mid at best. At this point of time,i was expecting pgr levels of combat,but instead we got worse apho gameplay with half the mechanics. Jump button has been absolutely useless because most characters cannot actually utilize it meaning its just a glorified dodge for characters that cannot use their attacks in air. For example,everyone other than sena and thelema. And songque is already flying. We dont even have a proper parry system. Bruh even zzz got one. Then comes the main feature ,the Astral ring. Why is it worse than white heat after releasing 2 yrs later? As of now,only songque feels different when you trigger AR. Everyone else feels the same as before with just an extra charged attack animation. Also White heat gave us duo ults. Havent seen the same for AR. 6) Lackluster characters - other than songque ,no part 2 characters deserve their gacha s rank tag. Mid animations,and mid movesets. Lantern and theresa are definitely sp valks with the garbage they got. Thelema could have been an easy farmable s rank. All these characters follow the same pattern. Basic attack>charged attack>AR>new charged attack> ult We left this pattern since 3.9 for s ranks. Now we get this old pattern again for no reason. Take any gacha s rank after 3.9 other than aponia,they so have much to offer in gameplay in comparison. 7) Constant s rank releases. If anyone defends this .......... 8) No animated shorts. If hoyoverse thinks that hi3 is anything without their animated shorts and albums,then they are really mistaken.

Completely agree with what you said. Even after reading the chapter 5, they messed everything up and reading the story now is basically a torture. -No animated shorts -40 hours of story of chapter 1-2-3 just for nothing really happening because of a loop -Vita is a really bad villain. Seriously, nothing to be compared to Otto or Kevin, the anti hero. Badly written chracters -MC is badly written -HSR fusing has been done terribly. Sparkle pops out of the blue withouth proper introduction and that's it. Poorly introduced withouth any reason to being there. Seriously, what are they doing?

I really started liking Part 2 later on, I never hated it but it was soooooo slow and such a burden to return to playing. I actually really like Songque so her story arc coming to a closure was a huge part that made me enjoy the story. I'm still not quite sure what I think of the story after that, but I don't dislike it and I'm intrigued what they will do with it. I was kind of hoping they won't tie Part 1 characters into it too much but it's starting to go that way, not sure what I think of that, very mixed feelings

Heres my crack theory. The original writers last arc was kolosten cause that was peak honkai with otto being partially redeemed. Sangi and his team made elysian realm and sumeru for genshin. They also made penacony for HSR. That leaves who is writing the story since moon arc base? The APHO team. I never liked the APHO storyline and character interaction were basically a checklist of how to write a story elememtary stuff its not deep at all. Im not shitting on who ever enjoys hi3 now but i been following this game since the 1st trailer of kiana's sky diving intro. Theres a big difference in storytelling before and after Kolosten arc. And then theres my biggest critism. The switch from animated shorts to in-game cutscenes. Rubia is my personal favorite cause fuhua has such a great story and it was a nice bow tie end. And then theres her fire birb form which is surpposed to be her strongest form we just get one punch man cutscene lol.

The thing about part 2 chapter one.. And chapter 2 is that its a new Arc. And new arcs start slow. It feels slow especially when the previous chapter was Fuhua garuda Arc. And griseo and Sa.. As well as massive lore dumps. So it feels really slow.. With new characters.. And new introductions. But as we progress.. Its getting really better with huge reveals.. As well as great deals of new character. With the plus of characters being more affordable for F2P players. And the new Dream seeker reveal was awesome.

After part 4, I can definitely say I’m at least sorta hooked after whatever happened with ch. 1&2 As for characters, I thought Coralie would probably stay my favorite but Sena grew on me, though that’s partially due to the lack of actual interactions we/DS actually get with Coralie and Helia. Biggest gripe with first chapter was they spent so much time on just worldbuilding that the entire chapter went in through one ear out the other, while the characters sorta just… don’t exist for much. I had no idea what was going on with the shus for a pretty solid portion of it honestly. I read second chapter a pretty long while ago and dont remember jack except for how long thelema took lmao. Third-Fourth I kinda liked, at least towards the end. Open world definitely made story a bit more of a struggle imo, in part cus open world never really makes the story more enjoyable, and I rarely ever do open world in hi3 for the gameplay. Also its tragically comedic how they seriously, literally deleted male ds from the game, like damn. I usually don’t care too much about character outfits but after people pointed out female ds outfit I gotta say that is uhhh… something…

I like part 2 a lot. It's even more confusing with whiplash-giving plot-twists, but also even more gorgeous; the revamped combat is fancier, but the platform-tasks are harder, and the characters are still interesting and lovable. All in all still one of the best games in 2024 for mobile and one of the better ones for other platforms; IMHO.

When part 2 story began I was actually hyped for it and I was excited to meet new characters. Of course the beginning act was kinda boring but I did enjoy it. And the middle of the story was good but I hated thelema’s part in they story because I was genuinely bored out of my mind and I honestly didn’t enjoy it. But the last part of the arc was genuinely interesting and I was excited to see what would happen next. The EX chapter is alright though, and I honestly don’t mind the whole mars is a giant supercomputer and it was all a illusion(?). Overall I give the first arc of part 2 a 6/10 good and interesting but has a lot flaws to it, if I hadn’t played the current story with vita because now I would give it a a 7/10 because that part of the story was genuinely good and a lot of lore.

Honestly my biggest problem with part 2 is the "unrefined feel". I don't know if it's only me, but i have seen alot of jank and honestly oversights from the devs. Like mid the visual novel esk parts, character models can flash for a frame or two to be rendered. This destroys my flow of reading quite a bit. Lack of facial animations (except sena) in their idle animations, Music of the map playing for a second before switching to the event or VN part music, no matching lip syncing in jp dub(the lips only follow chinese dub), facing the chair to sit instead having an animation of the character turning around, the character just teleports to position to sit and etc. This makes the game feel cheap and unfinished. Especially since it's now using the same game engine as HSR i think... The map design is kinda bad. Oxia is honestly not bad it's only problem is the number of empty corridors seperating parts of the map. I think they are there to load the map, but HSR doesn't need to load part of maps and both can run phones (Ik hsr has these type of loading doors too but they blend well and i never thought about them unlike the ones in hi3). Lanqiu is not good at all. If we ignore the floating metal platforms of the puzzles (these puzzles are also kinda bad), Lanqiu really consists of corridors and flat feeling halls and is mostly forgettable. The music in oxia, over time it gets really annoying and it feels disconnected from the map. In terms of technical aspects part 2 feels lacking in my opinion. Hopefully they will improve in chapter 5

I like the Act 1 finale twist, because it’s so cliché it wraps around to being cool, BUT the devs added a twist to the twist, that Coralie and Helia were PCs and not simulations. And they don’t remember Senadina. Spoilers for Chapter 4 ahead: . . . Holy shit they are/were dating! Fuuuuck, the first beat of chapter 4 is so good. Sure, the system was manipulating our emotions, but it was so well shown! The hallucinations and delusions of an easy solution. And when Entropy reached out to Sena, just to discover the girl from Wendy’s… it broke my heart.

Honestly its too early for me to properly give an opinion for Part 2 story, too early in as we have just a few chapters Yeah Hi3 story start with Kiana, Mei and Bronya was better done and it gradually got better as well Of course it had its up and downs which comes with stories But for Part 2, have to see where they go really. Like how Kiana talks with a Memokeeper
