Donny van de Beek & Fred are set to leave Manchester United. So Erik ten Hag needs reinforcements in central midfield. According to Fabrizio Romano, Sofyan Amrabat is Man Utd's top target in midfield.
The Moroccan international has played under Ten Hag before at FC Utrecht, so would be already up to speed with the Dutchman's methods. Does Sofyan Amrabat to Man Utd make sense?

After refusing to buy holding midfielders for 10 years, United is buying the second one in 10 months. In a world recently dominated by Fabinho, Fernandinho and now Rodri, it must be chrystal clear that it’s necessary in order to maintain consistent results. It’s the spine that gets the 1-0s over the line. This means GK, CB, CDM, CAM and ST. We’ve taken the short term road on ST, neglected the GK tactics, exploded back into relevance after buying our first CAM in ages in Bruno, and improved consistency after buying Casemiro. Now, both a long term striker and a modern GK as well as a backup DM, we’ve improved our spine dramatically. Not having to rely on Maguire or McFred to keep up winning ways when form dips or injury plagues us, is nothing short of a Revolution.

@@aritrachowdhury3950 that’s a good point. There was one short term CDM. He was functioning when Herrera and Pogba were still there under Ole. One season. That’s it .

Herrera wasn't used by Ole and to be fair Matic was good for two years, almost three, only he wasn't used much as he slowed down and he was sat next to Fred or mctomminay. As soon as Natic dropped off/out the midfield was abysmal and open with very little creativity or cover going on. What made Matic good, even useful at the end was his positional awareness. He may have lost his pace but he knew where to be at least. Mctomminay hadn't the beginnings of it, never will. He was a striker at youth left and converted to a box to box at best under mourinho. He isn't create much but also his positional sense or lack of is where he becomes a liability if being used defensively. He and fred are capable of breaking up play but both don't know where to be in transition.

I think you have to remember that its a long season and we really missed Casemiro when he was missing games last year. This transfer not only improves the first team tactical options but it also covers a really important position in the squad which we have no depth at. Fred, McTominay just couldn't do the same job that Amrabat will be able to do.

Does he make sense? - Can cover for Casemiro, when he eventually gets a red or a lot of yellows. - Can play alongside Casemiro, when we play against tougher sides, like City or Liverpool, making us harder to break down. I'd say yes.

Amrabat will also be crucial in big games and will add a new dimension to Ten Hag’s 3-1-6 with Casemiro making those 3rd runs into the box while he stays deep to dictate.

Amrabat will be quality for our midfield. We need technical quality in the midfield. We need more players that can keep the ball.

Amrabat and Casimero in the pivot will challenge for the PL title. Amrabat provides the passes and the carries, and Casimero provides the defense.

The possession retention is a very key thing for me as we don't keep the ball well at all in midfield. Too many sloppy mistakes and rushed passes when sometimes it needs to be recycled. That first half against Lens showed this. we were much better on the ball in the second half, didn't rush things and drew them to us to play in behind them. I should say that Bruno was overall secure on the ball in majority of the game and he was still creative. I hope he can keep it up for the season. Casemiro and the full backs need to work on that aspect

He’s a player to use in tactical changes in tight games against tougher and ball playing teams. We can play 442 diamond at times with him holding the right side of the midfield.

He does most of what Fred and McTominay do, just a bit better. So yeah. It's also good for certain games where you'd need the physicality. Saw that against City, both Rice and Partey gave them no control in midfield

All for increased versatility and the unpredictability of having multiple formations at Ten Hag's disposal. As long as the players are familiar with their roles and responsibilities in each, there's no reason that we can't play a 4-4-2 diamond, but I would worry that we aren't getting the best out of the likes of Rashford, Garnacho and Antony as wingers (Sancho is possibly an exception as he seems to thrive as a central 10 or a false 9).

Onana, Hojlund, Mount, Amrabat, Pavard Malacia, Eriksen, Casemiro, Martinez, Antony... you can see that ETH rates Shaw, Rashford, Varane & Bruno, but otherwise he wants a whole new first choice XI for the CL and PL... add Garnacho, Sancho, Martial, McTominay, Lindelof, Mainoo & Diallo and we have a really good squad with it's best years ahead of them...Cas & Raph excepted...

That’s never gonna happen. We can barely afford Amrabat, even after player sales. Plus, we don’t need one CB, let alone two. A backup striker is far more important. So is a backup CM if Scott, Fred, and Donny are sold. We’d be very lucky to get two of those, which would be a waste of money anyway, other than Amrabat.

The way things are going on the striker front, I'd be highly surprised it's not Greenwood added back to the team. Kane is looking impossible and we're not really linked with anyone else plus there's no indication of Greenwood leaving. Focusing on Todibo makes sense then but I hope we stay away from Pavard. He's a passenger on great teams and adds nothing to us.

@user-dp7iw5fn7g Lindelof and Shaw are both very good backups. We saw that last season. Lindelof is especially good. Who are we playing up front if Hojlund doesn't play? Rashford? Martial? Sancho? Shaw and Lindelof are both far better options than those three. The same goes for a backup to Mount. Eriksen has been very poor for a while now, and neither him or Amrabat fit into the role that Mount is playing. We could even loan Evans for a season if necessary.

I’m sad we are taking too long to bring this guy in. This is the best we can get for that amount. Casemiro is slowly declining this guys is a better baller than rice why are we taking too long. Those long passes rice doesn’t do those. He only plays is 5 yards passes well and tackle. Amrabat can do more we need this guy to make our window 10/10

If Sofyan Amrabat is signed at United i think the Tranferperiod is done for United. Anybody who will join is just a extra. I think a second number 9 is a must but i don't think thats going to happen. Amrabat is a very good choice.

We have already signed players for about 200m. We are already in the extras. We keep going for expensive choices but it is nice seeing the club back the manager at least. My only worry is that previously the loans go up when we spend more than the usual 120m so I'm guessing that we're already working with borrowed money...
