For me it’s Meruem. His design really reflects his character and I love every single aspect of his journey in the series. The way be behaved before and after his fight against Netero was fascinating and his final scenes were something that could make a grown man cry, like myself. 100% it’s Meruem for me, and he isn’t really a villain in comparison to Gon if you really think about it too

You touched on it slightly, but I do love how sukuna has something not all villains have: a genuine love for the game. Many villains happen to be strong, and have evil plans, others have plans and thus get strong, sukuna? He fucking loves being a sorcerer/ curse. You can almost feel much of his strength if not most is because he fucking loves fighting so much. He just enjoys jujutsu, learning, mastering, etc, that’s why he’s a counter fighter, because he wants to see cool shit. He loves when someone puts in a good effort against his life, he likes other strong people, that’s awesome

You brought up a good point. Sukuna starting from nothing, and becoming the strongest in history is the most likely backstory dor him. Not only does it explain why he has a different view of true strength, and lives only to indulge in whatever he desires; from a narrative standpoint, it makes the most sense. It's another way to emphasize how he is a foil to Gojo, but I think it also might explain why he despises Yuji so much more than others. It hasn't been explained yet in the manga, but I think it's almost 100% likely that Yuji is exactly how Sukuna used to be. To Sukuna, Yuji is a weak brat, who he believes understands nothing and isn't worth anything, but he still has an unshakeable, unbreakable spirit and drive. Sukuna starting off as a weak, untalented boy, who had an ironclad resolve to get stronger for his own sake, fits well. The reason he hates Yuji so much, could very well be, because he reminds him of his old self, which he's forgotten over his long-lasting existence. Rising from nothing, and eventually becoming the strongest ever.

This is a very good sukuna analysis I have some thoughts as well about sukuna. I think sukuna entering the afterlife is a reference to Buddhism. Uro noted that sukuna transcends jujutsu. Enlightened ones in Buddhism are known as the transcended beings. Buddha is looked at for answers, he’s seen as the transcended figure by other so they seek answers from him, this is the same with sukuna. Jogo, kashimo, gojo and other have all fought sukuna seeking answers. Sukuna sends them all with the answers to their questions. He tell Jogo what holds him back and what he needs to do to be stronger. He explains to kashimo that, while kashimo does not understand mercy or love, kashimo is showing it by giving him the fight they want and showing them love. Kashimo questions if sukuna knows love and sukuna said he does but does not look for it in others. In Buddhism, those that have transcended, throw away emotions and ties, same as sukuna. Sukuna represents Buddhism down to its core. Gojo have the honored one speech, but gojo isn’t looked at as the god among sorcerers, and he isn’t seeked for answers. SPOILER WARNING: Sorta kinda. He isn’t exactly a broken villain, but he isn’t pure evil like Mahito. He definitely is evil though, and it isn’t because of some tragic event in his backstory. It’s just kinda how he is, and the fact that his environment back when he was a child and into adulthood reinforced his world view. He was born strong, but it was all he had. He didn’t have an6 love. From anybody, and he never learned or knew how to love anybody, nor did he care to. The reason he likes fighting is much, is because it is genuinely the only way he knows how to connect with others. When he can’t fight people who excite him, he grows extremely bored and discontent. Back in the Heian Era, he deliberately chose to die for 1000 years in the hope of fighting people again rather than to live the rest of his life in the Heian Era fulfilling his hedonistic desires. Think about, he had reached a height where he could do and get anything he wanted, which is exactly what he wants. He wants to do what he wants whenever he wishes to, which he was in a position to do in the Heian Era once there was nobody left who dared fight him. But he had no connections with anybody, so he grew so bored and discontent with his life that he chose to essentially die for 1000 years so that he could finally connect with people again through putting his strength up against another’s and putting their lives on the line. So he does desire connection with others, and the only way he knows how to is by fighting others with their lives on the line. His overwhelming strength is what allows him to maintain the world-view of love being worthless and the pursuit of strength, with the peak of strength lying only being found at the height of solitude. The way he was born isolated himself from the love of others, his strength gave him the authority to dictate how he lived and treated others, he reached his level of strength in solitude, and he only finds connection with people when fighting them. Therefore, love is worthless in his eyes, peak strength lies in the height of solitude, and fulfilling his own needs and desires even at the detriment and cost of others is just the natural thing to do, and with his strength nobody could stop him from doing just that. If they wanted to stop him from fulfilling his desires, they would have to fight him and be stronger than him. Somebody like say, Gojo, who like Sukuna, is isolated from others because of his overwhelming strength. In Sukuna’s eyes, Gojo is the prime example that validates his world view of strength and solitude. Losing to Gojo would affirm his world view, even if it would go directly against his desires. He wouldn’t want it, but he wouldn’t hate Gojo for it. But he *does* hate Yuji. Because Yuji is not Gojo. Yuji is Sukuna’s prison, Yuji is not isolated from others, Yuji is not overwhelmingly strong, nor does he have the same hunger for strength, and he doesn’t hold his own desires above the needs of everybody else. And despite all those things, Yuji still doesn’t abide by Sukuna’s world view. Yuji despite being everything that Sukuna would consider lowly and below him, is also the only person who can contain him, and who can take away from Sukuna his ability to control his own life. Yuji stands in the way of Sukuna living the way he wishes, without anything that Sukuna has or values. This is *infuriating* to Sukuna. Everything that Sukuna has that has allowed him to survive and thrive the way he has been doing since the Heian Era is absent in Yuji, yet Yuji still has the ability to take away Sukuna’s autonomy. Sukuna is evil, he isn’t a broken villain, but he isn’t pure evil. He is very interesting, and I don’t think enough people who read the manga give his writing enough credit.

One of the things that really got me into jjk was Sukuna, in i think episode 4 and 5 of season 1 when hes toying with the curse womb and then megumi he became one of, if not my favorite character in the show, one of the few times ive enjoyed an anime and the characters so much i actually started reading the manga and got a shonen jump subscription lol.

Sukuna have that mentality.... See human's/gojo killing curses is cheared like i recently watched a reel comment where goatjo was praised for killing that plant curse just by his presence....but Sukuna killing human's is hated why the partiality.... Something like this mahito said but Yuji still hold his place of killing curses and defending human's same way Sukuna holds his stance and to defeat Sukuna you can't do it physically he can easily seal himself against (why won't he)... So to truly defeat Sukuna you have to break his ideology and instead your own because the show the narrator even Gege supports Sukunas vision of being alone so breaking that means defeating Sukuna (the killing part can be easily done after)

It was masterful story writing to build up the antagonist alongside the protagonist. It's not an asspulls power he has. He was always made out to be the strongest. The disaster curse spirits won in death. Gojo is gone and Sukuna is fully restored.

Sukuna is very well written and imo the anime elevates its source material. I actually gave up on the manga until I saw what the anime did with Sukuna. As fun as Sukuna is as a character, there are a few things that hold him back. I think Muzan from Demon Slayer is a great comparison, as they are both examples of the Demon King archetype. Both are pride incarnate essentially, but Muzan's pride and power bring him no true joy (and lead to his fate), but Sukuna's pride is presented as valid.

I think he was but imo in these recent chapters it went too far. I understand that he's the final boss, but to have a character this strong and Godlike the plot has to revolve around them. I think it's clear that Gege wrote this manga for Sukuna and most characters without Spoilers revolve around him. His Shibuya presence was peak Sukuna, but thats when he was a mystery and we didnt know how truely powerful he is, but now he's just way too strong for the verse to the point that he's not badass or threating anymore just because he's Gege's favorite and is always holding back and it'slike an adult beating up children just because he feels like it.

From the perspective of anime only, I can’t really say Sukuna is goat potential as an anime villain because so far he’s been quite cookie-cutter in terms of his characterization. He’s over powered and has that edgy charisma. Nothing stands out to me that I haven’t seen before in other anime villains; except that Gege does it very well. But at the end of the day it’s still trope heavy in my opinion (so far). Things could change down the line but I’ll just have to wait and see.
