It’s explained that the combination of the multiverses was having a negative impact on the mentality of superman, which is why pretty much everyone from dc is surprised at superman’s character. On marvel’s side, it was captain America going crazy, albeit to a *slightly* lesser extent than superman. Right before the multiverses split back, and before they fight krona, superman and captain America are at each other’s throats.

Marvel isn't more complex and especially not more in-depth. Honestly, they're both pretty terrible nowadays, but in the context of this comic, Marvel's heroes and villains are pretty incompetent generally speaking, especially the heroes who spend more time fighting each other than fighting said villains who, despite the heroes constantly fighting each other, never seem to properly capitalize on it aside from Norman Osborne during the Dark Avengers era.

There was a reason for this tho explained in the book: Superman and Captain America - being pinnacles of their respective universes - were most attuned TO their universes. DC and Marvel and not meant to collide or chaos unfolds as we see in the story. Literally the nature of the crisis itself is why Superman starts going sideways AS DOES Captain America, and the other heroes do call them out. So I never really took issue with it because even the characters themselves realize they were acting out of character due to this polarity shift and overcome it to win the day.
