I'm glad you always say do what you can afford. I loves the video, but don't have the money for the technology. I have to go in and break areas down with my eyes and rods. It's "old school" and I don't want to get "left behind", but hopefully what I'm learning will make me as good as you guys are. I'm having fun fishing my swimbaits and ultimately that's what it's all about, time on the water. Anyway, thanks Tim!

You have to remember they've fished years without a boat and even years without electronics even though they had a boat. The last decade that they've shown is just when they've been able to have both.

you dont exactly need it i would say.... it just seems to make finding where you want to fish faster and less of a hassle, as opposed to hitting points/edges or grass lines with a basic sonar system until you find a loaded one. i mean hell, you really just need a 200 dollar sonar system, an up to date depth chart, and some knowledge of the lake, assuming youve fished it before.

Buddy, you're doing great. If fishing for your own enjoyment it is an overpriced toy that offers amazing insight not visible in other ways. If you are a serious tournament fisher who's goal is to be competitive for tournament purposes, then it's an indispensable tool that all the other guys are using and in order to be competitive it is a necessity. That being said, few people actually seriously chase the tournament circuit because the prices make it a lifestyle and a career... even if you're fishing them locally. If your budget allows, it is cool as hell. I'm an old retired bastard, so for me it's a gadget that I added to my boat just because I like to see whats down there. If it was safe and efficient I would dive the areas I fish just to see the wildlife, its just not safe where I fish nor do you have the visibility. This is a tool that gives me a little vision into the environment around me.

The technology is a heck of a lot of fun that's for sure. But then again, it's great to go by the basics too. After all, why go fishing at all with any level of tech when commercial fisherman supply grocery stores with way more than you'll ever catch. Why play cards or a board game or have a conversation with friends when the lastest PC games the graphics are so good they're surreal instead of lifelike. And why go fishing when you got all that stuff at home. A: Cause often nothing beats the real thing!

I totally understand, if you can’t afford it you’ll never be as good as someone who can. There is no way those of us who don’t have all these gadgets can compete with the folks who do. It doesn’t matter how much time is spent working on your skill, seeing underwater isn’t a luxury a lot of folks have. I try to fish with others that have similar equipment to me, or fish in creeks and areas people can’t take the electronics to. It’s never fun being the guy feeling out the bottom with a search bait and then someone pulls up next to you rips up some fish and flys away leaving you behind.

Technology is obviously great and yes it helps *find* fish, indeed. For me, I prefer looking at and reading nature over computer screens all day (which is what I do for during work) and not ruining my natural instincts by being dependent on technology in order to find and catch fish. Technology has its place but it is not for everyone and really destroys the intrinsic nature of fishing and at the same time diminishes our ability to perceive, decipher, understand, and relate to the natural world with our human minds.

I have the mega 360 it’s awesome really can see underwater grass lines and other structures. I also use the garmen live sonar up front. It helps me find structures and fish quickly. What they won’t do is put those in your boat. I have tossed a lot of stuff at fish dots to only shake my head and move on fish less. Then I go to another spot toss one cast to where I see them and bam fish

@@c_geary If i only had one I’d do the 360. Especially if you already do hummingbirds products. Garmin is really cool but it only covers a small pie shape out in front. The other gives you awareness all around and let’s you use your skills to beat the fish. That’s my thoughts

@bobbymason3420

@@c_geary hope that helps. The livescope is a live picture of the fish the 360 will show where they were the last time it swept by. So a faster scan speed more likely on 360 to give a reasonable accurate location of fish but may not be an up to the second location. I will say also running lots of electronics eats battery life so I do have to think on that.

Just a note on this, I had my first Mega 360 and my head broke off in rough waters with NO BRACE. I called humminbird and they do not warranty a broken head. All they warranty is if the unit stops working electronically.. So I told them I might as well have the brace on my next one. Humminbird is good, but this is really sub-standard for a great product..

Great video. There's not too many good videos for 360 connected to a solix. There is a feature that I use once in awhile and that is to put the 360 transducer into Side Imaging mode. Works great. I suppose it just stops the rotatoin of the 360 transducer so the sonar beams are only shooting out to the side and it works just like conventional Side Imaging transducer. I've used that if I want to move a little faster and look under/around docks for fish or brush piles.

There are a lot of advantages to solix units. Recommend checking out the manual online online. But what I've found is 1 map card like lakemaster or smartstrike can be seen on each unit once they are ethernet Network. The touch screen is awesome but you can still use the manual push buttons and joystick. I've never had a problem seeing the screen even in bright Sun with polarized glasses.

Another big plus is you can add one GPS/ heading sensor and take either the GPS or the heading or both to any of your network units. Put the puck as as close to the rear transducer as possible. Wire to the console unit. Take the GPS and heading sensor from that Puck into your console unit setup. I'm about unit setup select compass on the puck, and use that unit's integrated GPS receiver 4 position. This will reduce Waypoint position error pretty much by the length of your boat when it comes to marking waypoints from one unit to the next (that is, from the rear transducer versus the front transducer). The idea is received the GPS signal is close as possible to the transducer being used to Mark a Waypoint. There's other advantages of solix vs. Helix also

just for the record, so that the terminology is correct and uniform: rocks, stumps, etc. are COVER, not structure....structure , in fishing, refers to changes in the bottom contour....with that in mind, the most ideal thing a fisherman can find is cover ON structure.....go back to your basic Buck Perry, who coined all of these phrases originally.....

Thanks been waiting on this one. I have 360 and Live it’s amazing but there is an art to balancing your time fishing vs using the tools.

I’ve sold my Lowrance unit and will be buying a Bird in February. I will only be able to afford one right now, as my budget will be $1500. What would you suggest I buy? I was thinking a Mega SI Helix with an extra transducer and power cord and move the unit back and forth as I’m fishing and idling. I eventually want Mega 360. I’m just gonna have to work my way to it.

Mega 360 requires ultrex or fortrex trolling motor unless you buy universal mount. All 1500+

Can the mega 360 be used offshore in 25-40 feet of water effectively?

Yes absolutely, I fish gville 3 to 5 times a week and 360 is a game changer, I mostly fish offshore now .My buddy worries about guys seeing where we are fishing and hitting those spots but I've proven to him it almost never matters . I can fish right behind ppl and catch fish when they can't and it's all because I find micro spots on general area spots(community holes) that the fish will use off and on all day. Feels great to pull up on a spot right after a guy pulls away with little luck and then we load the boat.
