Yeah, Tech's portal dominance makes them a Big 12 Contender in 2025. Joey has had winning seasons since he started here, He won with other coach's players (2022), He won limited depth (2023), and he won this year despite injuries because of having good depth. Now he's got good depth and just loaded the team across the board with blue blood program level talent. In his best year yet, he fired his DC for subpar performance and hired an even better DC. He also hired a top talent OC to replace our outgoing OC. University invested in upgrading the stadium and facilities. The fans and alumni are mostly united. It's looking good. Baylor’s head coach basically saved his job and filled enough holes to maybe buy him another season after 2025. He is just above a 50% winning record even with a 12-2 season. Judging by his record so far, he could have 10 wins or could have 4 wins next season. All things considered, I would be feeling better about Tech’s 2025 season compared to Baylor’s.

Baylor is paying for unproven freshman and that game was an anomaly. You guys are so damn salty. Our D coordinator and secondary coach are to blame and they are fired. It’s not Joey. Baylor is so afraid Tech will find success.

Tech alum here, like your perspective. Its pretty spot on. Thing with Joey is that too much hype gets going which only serves to make the fan base look like homers. Ive been watching Tech since the days Rodney Allison was QB. I like that the culture has been changed as the environment since Kliff failed was abominable. Joey has been a breath of fresh air long missing. However, he creates his own outsized expectations, which gets folks cranky when theres these early or mid-season slumps. I love that he finishes well each year, but after this portal class and an 8-4 year expectations are going very high. They should be. Between the base talent upgrades in the recruiting classes and now this portal class, theres really no excuse for less than 9-3 MINIMUM! Anything less is an abject failure and we "should" be competing to the end for the B12 championship. If the o line and d line adds make a modest improvement and the secondary settles, with whats coming back we should compete for the title. If they really hit, Tech could make some real noise in the playoff. But those are big IFs. At least they're pushing their chips on the table.

I really gotta disagree with you lol. Last year tech had injuries all over the board all season including their starting qb and then their second string got hurt in the middle of the season. This year techs concerning offseason weakness was real in terms of tech had zero defense. Next year tech is going to be good all over the board. Tech is scary rn.

@joejenkity1704 oh I'm fully aware of the injuries, especially on the d line. Basically, of the top 6 players on the line, 4 were injured part of or all year. Ben Robert's had a bit of a sophomore slump and the secondary was leaky as a Hollander. On the o line, it was sub optimal. The portal is looking very likely to address every issue. I would tend to feel very optimistic about next year. As I mentioned, the portal parts are very shiny and shoe immense promise. The players you had that were the strengths (QB, RB, TE, WR and LB) are largely returning and the young recruits reaching their 3rd and 4th year's are quite nice. However, this does not guarantee a championship. This many new pieces are going to have to jive with the in house pieces. That is always tricky. But make no mistake, having looked through this, I'm VERY optimistic. If most of the portal players fit and key players are hits (DT, OT, DB) then expect them to be in the playoff. But remember, being a Tech fan is like being a Cubs fan, you are often disappointed. Buyer beware.

LOL I love Cam but this is hilarious level copium. Baylor rebounded from empty stadium and coach on hottest of seats. Kudos for that. Tech and Baylor finished tied in overall record AND in conference record. Tech will enter 2025 season with a MUCH better roster and more coveted coach and GM.

Listening to Coach McGuire and Ŧ’s Matador Collective leadership they’ve been focused on addressing their roster gaps and needs that Coach McGuire made clear thru their 8-4 24 season. I don’t expect them to hold on to their 1# current ranking but that wasn’t ever their strategy. As far as I know the Portal is open to all Programs to invest in so I guess either Baylor’s needs are less or they don’t have the resources. One other point that seems to be missed by this Pod Caster. This is likely the last Portal cycle any Program’s Collective will be able to use their resources like this given all the Revenue Share changes that are coming.

Tech always has preseason hype, however their is more to back it up this time.. Most importantly, Colorado will be favored to win it next year, but Tech, ASU, and KSU should ve expected to be in the mix.

Since McGuire came to Tech (‘22), their record is 23-15. Over the same period of time, Baylor is 17-20.

I actually think Tech has played above their roster the last 2 years based upon the O line and D line. Yes, Tech had skill players but not in the trenches. Joey has recruited well in the trenches but that takes time with young guy getting stronger in the weight room. On paper they look good but paper does not win games, executing does.

@@fernandobermudez8546 Baylor hasn't needed to go into portal as heavy since they have most production returning as well as a better 2025 recruiting class. Tech should do better next year, but Baylor is going to come in and start far better than 2024. Will know some more in the Texas Bowl on 31st to see the offense against an SEC defense.

Baylor's football momentum started with rampant cheating and rapist players. Once upright they started to clean up their program. I have no doubt they would have no problem returning to the dirty recruiting and sweeping their problems under the rug. And congrats to SMU, alma mater of my mom and uncle. Could you please expound on your "rampant cheating" assertion? And, BTW: only one player from that era was convicted of rape. When the imbroglio was generated, news "sources" expected about 35 players to be tried and convicted. Talk about overblown!!
