When I started my industrial apprenticeship in england 1969, it was ,drainage spigot to collar in direction of flow and collar to spigot in direction of flow on cast iron watermains.

the direction of water flow doesnt matter even if the joint is free, not locked?

That is correct. Joints will not separate if the proper design calculations were implemented, and installation was performed properly. Thanks for watching.

Sir ,can u explain ,how’s the compressive strength of DI PIPE ,while backfilling RR stone ,boulders if fall on pipe from 0.8 mtr then will pipe can damage ?

Forgive me if I have misunderstood your question, but yes, if you drop a boulder of sufficient size on DI pipe it may be damaged. Ductile iron is resilient, but not indestructible. Thanks for your question.

Nope. No difference at all, water or sewer lines, pressurized or gravity. Laying direction is simply a distinction without a difference.

but if the pressurised water flow is from spigot end to socket end eventually the push on joint will become loose and the joint comes off right? thereby causing a leak in the system

Thanks for your comment. The direction in which the pipe is installed has nothing to do with the restraint of the system which is a separate question. Joints will not separate if the proper design calculations were implemented, and installation was performed properly. Design calculations may be completed using the McWane Pocket Engineer at pe.mcwane.com

They make pipe mechanical restraints to prevent blow offs
