Does the *NEW* Olaplex Curl Defining Gel Work for my Type 4 Hair?

I read on the Olaplex website, on the No. 10 page under the first question in the FAQ section, that type 4 hair types should use the No. 9 serum underneath the No. 10 for best results. 😳 That's definitely info they should lead with, especially when a lot of their visual ads for this gel feature black women with type 4 hair.

I'm type 3 and for me is obvious you should put something under😅 I would never rely on a gel only unless it's extreme in the humectantsand only for a few days.

@@perly0153 NJ doesn't usually style her hair with just gel. The only time she does is when she's reviewing a styler she's never used before that doesn't specify to use anything underneath it. Why? Because she wants to show her subscribers the unaided results of the styler. She does this for OUR benefit, not for her own. And she's not the only natural hair youtuber who does this either. So no, my comment was not about whether or not NJ did something wrong by not using something underneath the gel. It was solely about Olaplex's lack of proper guidance for this gel specifically. If they wanted people to know that type 4 hair should specifically use another one of their products to garner the full potential of this one, they shouldn't have buried that information in an obscure FAQ section on their website. It should be printed on the back of the tube.

I bought that gel when you did and gave it away after first use! I had the same experience you did, my hair was dry and flaking, wish I had saved my money 😢

One of my favorite Olaplex products is the No. 6 Bond Smoother, their first leave in. It feels like a deep conditioner on my hair,makew it so slippery that I was dropping sections of hair I was trying to finger coil. 😅 Earlier this year I paired it underneath the NLS Irish Moss Styling Cream and Okra Curl Defining Gel and my hair lasted EIGHT DAYS. Absolutely adore it. I wonder if it would pair well under the new Olaplex gel? I hope so, because I plan on getting it for Black Friday.

Damn! I bought the Olaplex gel in excitement but I haven’t used it yet 😢. Enbba naturals gel created by a black cosmetologist from NYC is a good option and it’s excellent! I’m waiting for her to release the heavy hold gel. Ouidad’s extreme hold gel looks promising and is on sale for 15 at ulta

Thank you for testing it out most reviews I’ve seen have been on looser/denser hair types and ion think this gone work for my thick type 4 hair

I’ve seen it work on type 4 hair but they definitely used an Olaplex product underneath. Some brands don’t play well with others

You definitely can't use that gel with any other brands. Considering I used it with one of their leave in conditioners and still got light flurries. It was definitely not a fave of mine either.

I feel like the treatment items are for everyone's hair, but the gel and leave in items are for Caucasian type hair.
